We know there are many operating System.
There's two somehow, the most famous one...
Microsoft and Linux....
Some people hate MS Windows monopolize the world's software.
Some people think that MS Windows is easier to use.
Some people love Linux cause it's open source.....
1.Which operating system do you love?
2.And why?
3.What OS you use?

Microsoft Windows. Too be honest with you, I don't know almost anything about Linux at all. So, I suppose I have no choice but to like Windows better. Plus, even still, I bet it would run better on my computer.
Here's the computer I'm running on fyi:
HP Pavilion 061
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2
448MB RAM
AMD Athlon XP 3000+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.1GHz
-
Well Aminaga, that's where you're wrong. Linux always runs better because it does not require as many resources as Windows. However, it's really complicated. I have one Windows 2000 and one SimplyMEPIS Linux. I prefer the Windows just because it's so difficult to do the simplest things on Linux.
Ironically, my Windows recently got messed up so I am using my Linux to post this. Razz

There are distros of linux aimed to be simplified for the home user, that's what ubuntu is trying to accomplish, also open suse is starting to go towards that now too. I definetley prefer Linux, although BSD is very much starting to appeal to me, I may switch my main computer over to BSD.
-
I haven't used Linux. I've used a few others. But currently I like Microsoft the best.
Macontosh (dosen't deserve correct spelling) is just...blegh...
-
Mac kicks Microsoft @$$. Very Happy
It just doesn't run enough programs.

It failed with me. Razz It did not like my wireless USB adapter. So I would have had to install drivers for it the hard way. I deleted all partitions associated with Ubuntu. If I remember correctly, I don't think it liked my sound card either.
MS Windows here.

Exactly why it sucks! The reason I like MS Windows is because it's the only operating system that runs RPG Toolkit. Razz
btw Number Eight, exactly how many operating systems do you own? Because, right now, I'm thinking of you as a big, rich-guy that can afford anything. =p
-
Hardly. Razz
I have a lot of old computers because my dad knows someone who owns a computer company. I have a Windows 2000, a SimplyMEPIS Linux and a Macintosh 9.2 notebook computer.
They were all free. ^_^
-
Oh. Heh. I wish I could get stuff like that just as easily. <_<
-
Well, they're not new computers so I can't play 3d games on anything but my laptop... but it's still a pretty sweet deal, especially since they're not family computers.
They're all mine.
-
Ah.. I, myself, have Windows XP, Home Edition.
For Lunix, I have never tried it, so I wouldn't know why one I would prefer.
As for Macantosh, I've tried it before, but as Number Eight previously posted, Macantosh doesn't run enough games.
My current game I'm playing right now, though, is Ragnarok Online (Korean Version, private servers).
-
Yet, there are several programs that I know that have better versions, for the Mac then Windows. Such as, Wolfenstein 3D and Opening Night. Yet those are both very old games. Wink

Well in Indonesia,
most of us use Windows XP. Pirated ones.
Because there's so many piracy here, Microsoft think of a strategy to bust em.
Seeing that Indonesian people mostly can be bribed.
Microsoft Indonesia proclaim to the public "If there's an employee see that the company he works in uses PIRATED WINDOWS, please report to us, we will pay hadsomely" as I remembered the text is like that...
Microsoft knows how to find the Pirated user easily ---> Smart.
The employee becomes a traitor to the boss (imagine if you're betrayed)--->Evil
The employee gets the money--->The bosses got mad---> Calling mafias/gangsters--->Crushing the employee (and the family?maybe?)
A complete disaster created by Microsoft.
I did say the piracy in the company is WRONG, but with this method...
Waddaya think and whaddaya do?
If you're the boss?
If you're the employee?
If you're Microsoft staff strategy maker?

Are you guys using ORIGINAL OR PIRATED Windows?
-
Pirated Windows? WTF? Never heard of it. But I'm pretty sure I'm not using pirated Windows.
-
David, try not double post, or type in big letters unless you need to.
I use original Windows. Also, I don't think anybody in North America uses pirated Windows; there is no point, because it's probably cheaper and easier to get the original. In fact I didn't even know they pirated Window's.
Also you think anyone who is using pirated Window's would answer honestly to your question if you just said:
Because there's so many piracy here, Microsoft think of a strategy to bust em.
Seeing that Indonesian people mostly can be bribed.
No offence but you would make a horrible detective.
-
btw It's Windows, not Window's. =p
-
I use Windows (Professional, pirated), but I prefer Linux. Unfortunately, the computer with Linux had all its hard drives wiped apart from one partition, which was just storage. I installed Windows because it would be quicker to get it up and running (and downloading, yes, I am a criminal. Workers of the world...), and I could not be bothered to install Linux as well (I have two computers, the one which used to have Linux previously belonging to my dad).
Pirated is always cheaper, especially if you download it for free! Cost: one writable CD. Beat that! My family has not paid for Windows since Windows 98 (which we got free with a PC, so really, we have not paid for Windows since Windows 3.1.1 (For Workgroups))!
-
My computer came stocked wtih Windows XP, but I have reformatted it with a pirated copy of XP several times. Although I can get a legit copy of XP Pro (through my school) for free, I have just setup my computer recently (last week reformatted + got software), and I don't feel like doing it all over again. Other than that all the software on my computer is free or paid for. I have Winamp registered to my name, AIM + DeadAIM (registered to me), and tons of OSS.

Gee...Dudeman.
Sorry for not post an appopriate text, I must learn how to post, sorry. I won't make double post again.
Most Windows in Indonesia is pirated, even in South East Asia. So many piracy.
Dear Mat and Haraldur,
Maybe for people in America Windows is cheap, because it uses dollar (the currency used in your country too). But in Indonesia, it's VERY VERY EXPENSIVE. I myself have to work 3 month to get one Windows XP Home!
1$=Rp 9800 Can u imagine that? 9800 times!!!
But I do want to use Original ones. I have saved some money, maybe next month I get one. Pray for me plz Razz
-
Yeah, maybe I was abit harsh on you davidsetiabudi. Sorry. Just makeing a double post like that is a bit foolish. If it's only a small update within a few minutes then you could just edit your last post.

Aye there, my man. I did the same math a long time ago, only in Peso Wink
Only seen Red hat Linux, and it's for servers.
I've heard that for servers Linux would be preferable simply because it has enhanced security over Windows.
But for home usage, I've never really used Linux, so I wouldn't know. But to think that I'd be using Linux that'll mean I wouldn't be able to use all programs I have here, so I'll have to buy a new set of ones.

Not nearly as user freindly as Macintosh though.
Macs rule. (http://http://users.pandora.be/eforum/emoticons4u/fingers/fing34.gif)
