Just wanted to know what you all thought of them, seeing as the Christmas shopping season is about to officially start. Frankly i am not impressed, they could have done a lot better for the price they are asking. that applies to all the consoles coming out.
-
Probably the only one that's worth the price their asking, is, personally, the Revolution.
Sony and Microsoft are charging an upwards or $300 or more, while, Nintendo never goes above $200. But, I know people who will shell out $300 or more, just for either Sony or Microsoft's console.
-
i thought the PS3 was like 800?
-
I think its all pretty stupid.
The ps2, xbox, and gcube had potential and the prices were just coming down, and then they release new systems. Who needs all these super-realistic graphics? What we need is geniune gameplay, and there are too many games that ignore this completely.
We should work on trying to make good games for current systems than making new systems altogether.

Yeah Number Eight, they should. They can always make it better by making better games then better systems, BUT...

WTF? Number Eight, sadly I do not understand you there. The Xbox 360 graphics especcially, are supposed to be among the best video game graphics ever! I think in certain stores, they let you play games for it ahead of time before it comes out even. Plus, who knows what games they'll make for the new systems, they could accually be REALLY good, as in better story and better plot then the other games already out there for the "older" versions of the 3 systems.
Anyways, in reply to the question AlienDude posted, personnally, of the three systems, I am most interested in the PS3. I already asked for a PSP for christmas this year though, so chances are, I'm not getting it for christmas, or my birthday. (which is only 6 days apart from the 25th.)
But, I might get it some couple months after christmas, if I keep saving up my money. We'll see...

The real push was because of PC games, that enjoyed way better gfx and APIs than the consoles, just ask any console programmer. Yes XBOX will still be viable for a while, in fact when i get experienced enough i may try my hand at it myself, of which by then i will have a good team.

I think graphics don't mean anything. It's all about gameplay for me. Plus, blurring the line between fantasy and reality is not good in certain circumstances, for instance, I sometimes play violent video games, but I am very nonviolent in real life and will not even kill a bug. I think making it seem (even more) as if you are killing a real live thing when it's just a game is not good.
Also, better story and better plot do not depend on the hardware of the system. They could just as easily release a game with a fantastic plot for a NES as for an XBOX 360. Those depend on the developers and to be honest I don't see them releasing anything new. They're remaking old video games, making sequels, making knock-offs, and turning books and movies into video games. Not much new has been happening, and I think it will probably continue this way for the new systems. We will see sequels to all our old games but very few new and innovative titles.
Retro gaming, on the other hand, is pretty freaking cool. B)
Instead of buying a PS3, XBOX 360, or Revolution, buy a NES or SNES. You'll have way more fun with that thing than you will with a fancy shmancy XBOX 360, AND it will be cheaper so you'll have more money left over for games.
Or get a Dreamcast, they can emulate NES at full speed and you can get the games off the internet. They also last longer than the original NES and have some fairly nice games of their own.
-
Yes Dreamcast was a great platform. I never had one but damn there were some weird games for that thing. And i agree, about gfx but you do need the CHOICE to have realistic gfx, and not be forced ot have a certain level of quality.

Huh? What does story or plot have to do with hardware. If you haven't noticed, stories have been before video games.
Besides, why do we need better graphics? So we can get a seizure faster? OI! Marvel Vs. Capcom is like 7 years old and those graphics will turn you blind. OI! Not to mention the graphics we are speaking about are for 3D games. Are we not forgetting Capcom's famouse 2D sprite games of the late 90's. OI! Neo Geo even has some better graphics than any 3D game I've seen. Although I would like to see cel-shading improve.
No to mention the gamepads are going crazy. I mean, a remote control shaped gamepad? What the heck? These things are going crazy. Next thing you know, they're going to be making a gamepad with a toaster on it.
ACK! Video Games are the only form of entertainment that advances to fast.

I'd spread my vast gaming knowledge with you all. But I don't feel the need to.
Well, if you insist.
Unfortunantly there are more dumbass morons out there who think that the better graphics make the game better. Which of course is wrong because gameplay IS the most important part.
And example is GTA sand andreas. I swear I killed the same looking hooker or the same looking gang member at least 15 times now. But it's fun because the gameplay allows you to kill the people in many different ways.
Dreamcast was a good console. (Shenmue is a cool game) but it was released to early to compete with the newers ones that came out later. So everyone jumped ship to them except a couple of Sega fanatics.
Personally I don't really care much about the new consoles since I've gotten too much into PC gaming but if I had to choose I'd get a 360 simply because of the games that are going to come out. (like Oblivion and Call of Duty) but mostly for the online service.
If people depend on graphics instead of gameplay then that's exactly what we're gonna get. Flashy games with shitty stories and gameplay.
Don't make me go into stories now. I'll never shut up.
-
You can tell developers to focus more on gameplay than graphics, but in the end the games with better graphics are generally going to sell more.
-
I use to play Shenmue alot. Oh and I think there making a Shenmue 3 on XBOX 360.

Dont worry, as long as Nintendo and Capcom is still around, were not gonna be dissapointed. Square is starting to drift off into the graphics direction. NO!!!
-
Sad, but true.
Square's new games, in my opinion, are not even worth playing.
