I am wondering, doesnt any1 here realize that 2d is like 90's. i mean al games are 3d, when will Toolkit go 3d, cause i am getting bored with it and if it doesnt go 3d soon i will start to write my own 3d engine.

You can make sort of 3D games with TK3. <a href='http://www.toolkitzone.com/games.php?file=183' target='_blank'>Mansions Of The Moon</a> is about the closest to it, yet it is not exactly 3D except for the graphics.

And well, so what if 2D is 90s? Maybe most of us like 90s games? I love 2D RPGs, Fallout, Mario-RPG and even those Pokemon games they made for the Game Boy, are great wholesome fun. Plus quite a few fun 2D RPGs were made recently; take a look at the GBA and DS.

But I don't think the toolkit will go 3D at all in TK3, maybe if they make a TK4, it'd be 3D.

I've yet to see a 3D RPG even come close to the greatness of 2D games such as Final Fantasy 3, 2, and Tales of Phantasia.  Saying that 2D games are "90's" is a complement, since the early to mid 90's were truely the golden years of console RPGs.

Prefering 3D games is sooo 2000's.  Get with the program, man.  (Heh...)

Lol.

Tales of Phantasia? I didn't know anyone else liked that game (or even knew it) other my loser self.  ^_^

But I don't think its really fair to compare the 90's 2D games to the more recent 3D works. It's like trying to compare chocolate to vanilla - they're both just too damn yummy to eat to really care. XD

Well, yes but one of my favourite games, was made in the 2000s is Mario & Luigi SuperStar Saga (I have yet to buy a DS and get Partner's in Time).

Like seriously look how awesome it is.

Mario and Luigi about to do a Bros. Attack and pwn the hell out of a Beanie.

Oh no! Fawful dropped a rock to block their path!

The awesome boarder line Mini Game, just one of the millions of awesome mini games.

Oh wait, but despite this game being released in 2004 its 2D. So yeah 2D wins! Wink

Isn't there some legal reason that TK won't go to TK4 until cbm comes back?

Or something like that?

I don't expect to see "true" 3D until a long time from now... and newbies would have trouble figuring out how to make the "true" 3D, in my humble opinion.

That's coming from a guy who's trying to learn how to do 3D so I can have 3D in my games.  Laughing  I'm expecting to give up on that because it's easier to make tiles, though....  Sad

2D kicks ass. 3D is always nice however. But most people these days only think about the GRAPHICS!! Which is one of the main reason most games never get finished these days.

I'm trying to learn Calagari TrueSpace or Anim8r so I can make 3D backgrounds for my game... but its hard. Sad Yeah, if I can't learn it, I'm gonna give up on it, and find someone to make tiles for me (heh) so I can proceed and not leave my game just being a script and a Mwin (heh).

Personally, most 2D RPGs are better than the 3D ones, no?  But anything non-RPG seems to be better in 3D.  Compare Halo 2 to Doom 2, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas to Grand Theft Auto 2, even a PS2/Xbox/GC Tony Hawk to a GBA Tony Hawk.  See the difference?  2D only pwns 3D when it comes tp RPGs.

Of course if you wish to attempt to prove me wrong, feel free to. Wink

Halo 2 = Great graphics, long boring shitty story scenes, only able to carry two weapons.

Doom 2 = Decent 2d graphics, no story scenes, just get into the action and kick some ass!

Okay, Halo 2 blows compared to Doom and Doom 2. Doom has everything that Halo does, minus the shitty-ness, and good graphics.

Like when you start Halo 2, you have to endure a long story scene of a bunch of stuff nobody cares about, and then after that you have to run around for a few minutes before you get to do anything.

Wile in Doom 2, just when you start, what happens? There are two zombies standing right in front of you, once you show them the meaning of kick ass a few more come running down the hall way only to gunned down by YOU, not one of your stupid team mate fellow marines.

Grand Theft Auto 2 is my favourite GTA game. Why? The electro-gun. I was pissed to find out that they didn't have the electro gun, what kind of bullshit was that? The Zabatsu, and SRS and all those gangs in GTA2 kicked ass (except for those crazy hippie guys in level 3).

Post by: Cuzit on August 01, 2006, 03:43:27 PM
Well, I think Halo 2's much more fun.  I care about the story scenes, and if you don't... that's what the A button's for.  Skip!

And if you don't like the marines... shoot 'em.  There's no harm done.  And trust me, you won't have them for long on Legenday mode.  Five minutes if you're lucky.

And I'd rather play SA than two anyday.  You may not, but that's your opinions.

Personally, I thought that Halo 2 is better than Doom 2 and GTASA is better than GTA2.  Since I did think this, I made the comparisons this way.  I guess this is sole opinion, but I still like Halo 2 over Doom 2 and GTASA over GTA2.  My opinions, I guess.

Post by: Dude Man on August 01, 2006, 11:04:03 PM
Indeed. But yeah, it's okay to have some marines around with you, but only if they're needed. Like Star Wars Battlefront, you need to have more people with you.

But yeah, another reason I don't like Halo 2, is well, you'll either need an XBox, or like $1000 worth of hardware to play on the PC. And frankly, I'm running on Windows 98SE and DA2 lags on my computer during battles. I'm also not the richest person alive, if you know what I mean.

Plus, I just don't find it as fun. I don't get as good of a feeling shooting a bunch those "elites" down with any gun as much as I do, when I just own a group of zombies with the Super Shotgun in Doom 2.

Also, if you skip the videos on Halo 2, it kind feels like you're missing out on a lot. Plus the game seems like it needs the videos, yet Doom 2, doesn't need any.

I'm not saying that videos aren't bad. It's just if they're like long and boring but important then no. Like some of the videos are cool, but those videos with the prophets and that Arbiter guy and all that, like?please. When I play Halo 2, I always say to myself: "Man, this game would be so much better if it was Doom."

Another reason I love Doom 2 is because of <a href='http://www.zdoom.org/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page' target='_blank'>ZDoom</a>. B)
Title: (no subject)
Post by: Cuzit on August 02, 2006, 02:01:11 PM
Yeah, the Arbiter sucked.  I'm hoping they don't bring him back in Halo 3, or he dies in it if you have to use him or something so he's not in Halo 4! Wink

And Halo 2 is more modern, and tries to tell a story.  And it doesn't try to do like some of the new 360 FPSs are trying to do by telling the story while playing the game, so it kinda requires the scenes to advance the story.  And its got enough story to qualify three (very good) novels, so, there! Razz

I'm hoping there's more... how do I say, "war-like" scenes in Halo 3.  You know, where you come out on a ledge... look down... and there's millions of enemies and allys fighting below you... and you know you gotta go through them all.  Luckily, you brought a shotgun, a rocket launcher, and a ass-load of frags.  Cool  Yep, it's goin' down!

Get an Xbox 360, which I find very worth it, or an Xbox.  By now, Xboxes probably aren't much more than $150-200 New, but I don't know that fo' sho'.  So... get a used one.  You can probably find a workable one for pretty cheap on E-bay/Amazon.

Trust me... you'll want the marines on Legendary difficulty... but you won't keep them very long!

Seeing a War-Like scene would be very awesome, I'd agree.

But the thing I love about Doom, is like you've got the most badass monsters ever, like the Cyber Demon and the Spider Mastermind, like there's that Scarab in Halo 2, but it doesn't do much.

Another thing is, how awesome the Shotguns are in Doom 2, like the Double Barrel Shotgun. Like you shoot a group of four zombie men with it and they each make the same death groans and the fall to the ground the same way at the same rate in perfect coordination...What more can one ask for? B)

The shotgun in Halo 2, perhaps? Razz

The weapons keep getting better and better (except the pistol, they toned it down because it was overpowered but now its underpowered... <_< ) so I can't wait to see if they made some kind of bad-ass weapon in Halo 3.

What can be better than a shotgun, in either one of these games?  Have you ever got the hidden Scarab Gun weapon?  That thing is AWESOME.  I wish you could keep it the whole game.  Get it, and have fun with it, and then tell me you think the shotgun's better!

I've heard about it. Frankly, I'm just a fan of shotguns (mostly the Doom shotguns), it's just the way ID does their shotguns, I like it.

But what I just really like, I highly prefer 3D games with 2D sprites. And also what I love about Doom is that you fight zombies rather then aliens.

It's a bitch to get, though.

Drag a freakin' Banshee through tunnels where its not supposed to be in the first place, evident by the tight corners and its A.I. messing up, THEN jump in it at the RIGHT time exactly or it'll dissapear, then fly it out of the tunnel and from there its easy to find (though you're evidently not supposed to be here, because outside of where you're supposed to be fighting down below on foot there's no enviroments loaded) but once you get it.... DAMN.

I know you don't care, just thought I'd sumarize. ^_^  Bored, I guess. <_<

If you REALLY want detail, I suggest googling it as I don't remember a website right off.

But seeing as this is a hidden weapon, I guess it doesn't count in our argument. Laughing

I guess it all goes down to a matter of preference, and I won't try to change yours (but it still pwns the shotgun, though! Razz ).

Heheh. Well that does sound interesting. If you've still got Doom 2, then you should really try ZDoom, it makes the game so much better in so many ways.

But I guess that doesn't count either. Heh.

But what I like about Doom, is that the game is really fast paced. Like when I've played Halo 2 on the XBox, it had loading time, and it took awile to get started. But with Doom you get right into the action, right away. I play Doom 2, to blow off some stress sometimes. I can never find anything more satisfying then killing a huge onslaught of zombies packing shotguns and chainguns, with the good ole' double barrel shotgun. Personally, I think the Double Barrel Shotgun is just the most awesome weapon in any game.

Plus, once you get it (in level 2) you get to keep it! Wink

What is ZDoom?  I no longer have my original copies of the SNES versions and now have a $10 package with Doom, Ultimate Doom, and Doom II from Wal-Mart....

Halo 2, or any other modern game, will have some load times.  It's inevitable.  Tell me, have you played any game in the past five years that didn't have a load time somewhere?

But atleast Halo 2's is better than Halo 1's.  I prefer it, anyway.  (Halo's loaded after every level, while Halo 2's loads at the very beginning and doesn't have to load again until you start up multiplayer or shut off your system)

But Doom leads to kids wanting to kill people! Razz

Have you played Doom 3?  Do you like it?  I've, sadly, only played a demo of it, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  What do you think of it?  I've considered buying it (for Xbox, of course.  I've had a lot of pointless bashes over at TKZ because I prefer game pads over mouses for FPSs, which no one agrees with and continues to flame me because I'm an "idiot."  Grow up....), but I'm not so sure it's really that good overall or it was just the demo.

Have to admit, though, the Doom movie wasn't that great (except for the FPS part, that pwned).

Don't ask me where the movie part came from.

<a href='http://www.zdoom.org' target='_blank'>http://www.zdoom.org</a>. ZDoom is an advanced engine for Doom, Doom 2, Hertic, Hexen and Strife.

It adds like mouse aiming, jumping, crouching, not to mention it has way better coding, so you can make some pretty leet mods.

And Halo doesn't? It's just as violent as Doom is.

Yeah I've played Doom 3. It's a great game. But I like Doom 2 better. But just to let you know, I hate using game-pads. I prefer mouse's and keyboards, it's more natural and you can more easily set it up the way you want. But I don't want to have a pointless bash. Here is why:

Using the game pad and using the mouse is like using your right hand or using your left hand. It just depends on what you're used to.

Oh yeah, and as for that part about people flaming you and calling you an idiot. That's why I don't go to TKZ I guess. I can barely talk in the chat room without getting flamed by Mr.Picso, Colin or even Vampz.

Knowing them they're probably going to come to this site and be like. "hjey dood man you is teh leech on teh communitee. dunt talk about us on ms n0b lol idoit."

I guess it's just being used to gamepads over mouses is why I prefer them, even though I do play plenty of pc FPSs before you start saying I can't make true comparisons because I don't play one or the other.

Doom 3 was fun... I'm going to buy it once I get the money.

TKZ and Mysticsoftware both have their ups and downs (though when Mysticsoftware was just a little infant still needing its diaper changed periodically, lots of flames went down here, too).

Sorry I can't post a lot, I'm not even supposed to be on.  I'm grounded - and only own "legally" because I have homework.  Or so she thinks.  Meh, I'll come back with a good long post another time.... >_<

Indeed. Gamepads are not superior to mousses or vice versa. It's really all a matter of opinion.

However I guess a way to tell would be like the best mouse-player vs. the best game pad player in a best 2/3 death match.

It seems like they did that on a show on G4 called Arena, back when G4 was still good.

If you're not from America (I'm saying this because lots seem to be not from America, from some place in Europe, I'm not going to get specific), I don't know if you'd have an idea of what I'm talking about.  Not knowing this as a fact, I'm sure that 97% percent of American TV is different from other continent's TV.  So... not a good example if you're not American.  And if you're American, that was a lot of my time wasted typing for no good reason. Laughing

I'm Canadian, and I don't have cable television so I guess that would be the equivalent of being from another continent.

I've heard of G4 however, is it that one crazy video game show?
Title: (no subject)
Post by: Cuzit on August 18, 2006, 11:04:56 PM
No, its a channel.  G4 was some kind of video game something-or-another from somewhere, and TechTV was all about technology.  If you watched the old TechTV, it was so... nerdy, and used so many computer terms, if you didn't work in the industry, you wouldn't know what the hell they were talking about.  They then teamed up, making G4TechTV, airing on the same channel.  They mixed video games and technology - about half and half.  The video games dominated... and now there is no "Tech" on TechTV, unless you consider video games "tech."

Well, that's pretty sad. The only video game thing I watch is this one review show, Tommy & Victor's Game Review's or something. I dunno what it's exactly called, but it's kinda funny when they give REALLY bad reviews. They sometimes use the term "ass game" which I find comical. I usually get a good laugh from that show.

Judgment Day?

That show doesn't air anymore. Sad

It sucks, because I really liked that show.

X-Play's the oldest show still around, unless you count Attack of the Show, which was originally The Screensavers before a name change, which has been around since TechTV first started.  But its nothing like it was in the old days... nothing.  Now we're worried about who's the hottest girl on MySpace and looking for videos of stupid people that do stupid things (think: JackAss) and post them on the internet, instead of what's the best software, computers, and the like, to buy.

It truly is sad.... Sad

Meh, I find that technology is just moving way to fast for even me, a 16 year old, to keep up with. It's insane really, like now we've got these things that are like 38297589471 times better then N64 that you can carry around.

Like I've got one of those Nintendo DS things, and I mean, it's crazy man, like it's got the touch screen and the wireless connection, and it's out of date because of the DS Lite.

Yeah.  My computer's two years old.  I'm not a PC Gamer, so I don't see the point of updating....  So just keep it until you have to update! Razz

As far as everything else goes....  I buy all the new systems every new release, but outside of that, I don't really "upgrade" much.  My cell phone's a year old and my mom's... let's just not go there. Wink

I suppose if you're the owner of these companies (Bill Gates) you don't have many money issues.  Buy whatever you want!  Shit, I'm waiting for his purchase of the United States to go through! Wink

I'm surprised Bill Gates has kept his sanity with the amount of money he has. He could buy a slew of mail order brides every day.

Or he could burn down his house and rebuild it like, every day. Or maybe like get a million life sized army men, and like a bunch of TNT and a flamethrower and like make this HUGE ass battle field thing with a bunch of blown up and melted giant army dudes. Man I would so do that.

If I had his money....

Lol, I'm getting "excited" in my pants thinking of it.  I don't mean I'd buy hookers or anything, I mean the thought of actually having that kind of money greatly excites me.  It was a  perverted metaphor. Wink

And I would buy brides....

I'd go to Tokyo and buy a $4000 glass of Cognac and a hot waitress to sit and talk to me and pour my drinks. Very Happy  I saw that on the Travel channel today. Razz

I totally agree that 2D and 3D are equally awesome. and you can spice up a 2D game with 3D graphics using this one free program I found called Z-modeler. it's at http://www.gimp.net/ (http://www.gimp.net/)
