Welcome to Dark Age Legends, chapter 11 sign ups! Chapter 11 will pick up where chapter 10 left off, but due to the break in the action, this is an excellent point to jump in if you haven?t already. If you haven?t been following the story the entire way through, don?t worry. You are not expected to read the entire RP-- just the summary and rules below. However, if you never played in a forum RP before (particularly this one) you may want to read a random page or two in the middle to get a sense of how everything works.

Chapter 11 Prelude

Gaian has been plunged into darkness.  The evil Dark Emperor Retan has returned with a horde of minions from other worlds, sealing up the heroes of Gaian as punishment for his past exodus.  Forming an unholy alliance with the Kandarinian Sovereignty, the two unchecked nations have run rampant, unleashing their fury upon the globe for the past 18 months.  The world is dying.  The darkness that was once confined to the Dark Continent is spreading.  Vicious creatures now run rampant across the land, sky, and sea.  All know and fear the Dark Empire?

Those that remain free from the tyrannical rule are few and far between.  Small pockets of resistance.  Small bands of freedom fighters that struggle to remain hidden, let alone survive?

Archives

The automatically updated <a href='http://darkagegames.net/dal/viewer.php?id=472' target='_blank'>DAL Archives</a> might be easier to read than the topic on this forum if you want look back at the story (it?s just a script that reads from the forum database and strips off all the signature, avatar clutter, etc.) This is useful if you want to save some pages to your harddrive.

Also, there's the <a href='http://darkagegames.net/dal/viewer2.php?mode=1&id=472&page=0' target='_blank'>big page</a>, which is the entire RP on one huge page (Caution, modem users! It's over 5 MB at this point.)

And don't forget <a href='http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia' target='_blank'>DALpedia</a>!

Rules

<a href='http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Rules' target='_blank'>Dark Age Legends Rules</a>

All players must read the rules.  Continuing Chapter 10 players can just give them a brief skim, as the only addition is the part about Retan.

As per usual, update/create your character?s bio page in DALpedia, then post a link to it here.  New players post here first, so we can approve your characters.

Chapter 11 begins December 1st!

For those of you participating in the ?Post Chapter 10? side RP, you guys can keep going if you want, although you might want to end it before Chapter 11 starts so that you don?t get too burned out.  (Heh?)

Note: For the characters that got sucked into Retan's ultimate spell of doom at then end of chapter 10, they will be freed in chapter 11's opening post.

Also, check out the new <a href='http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Help:Character_Stats' target='_blank'>character stats template</a>!

Post Chapter 10 will end November 24th I guess.

Here be my characters:I also did added the new template for my old characters <a href='http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Aegidius' target='_blank'>Aegidius</a>, <a href='http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Abodahon' target='_blank'>Abodahon</a> and <a href='http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Valos' target='_blank'>Valos</a>.

<a href='http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Allen' target='_blank'>Allen</a>

Allen isn't updated becasue he didn't participate in Chapter 10.

Arg! You keep changing Zeros' race. First Half Human, then Half God now Half Angel! Meh, inconsistencies never hurt anyone. Horus' height changed and so did Duilin's appearance (slightly and without explanation), Heheh.

But yeah, hopefully we'll see Allen get back into action. Honestly, a couple times throughout Chapter 10 I was like "Where's Allen?".

I have a couple suggestions for DAL and DALpedia...

1. Perhaps we could have a DAL time line, like what year is this taking place? Perhaps have an original calendar?

2. Make an info box thingy for the Nations like we have for characters. Have info for things such as Ruler, Government, Religion, Location, Government, etc.
Title: (no subject)
Post by: Xorlak on November 21, 2006, 04:38:36 PM
Yeah actually I was thinking about setting up a timeline myself.  We'll see...

An info box for nations/groups is probably a good idea, since we're only getting more and more.

Guys, I think we should create a page on DALpedia for the chapter 10-11 interlude. That way, the important people such as myself, DM, Xorlak, Jenia, DarkSpartan and the such (kidding!!) whose characters were not affected by the trap can write up a summary of what happened to their character/nation/army/npcs/friends/etc.

How's that sound?
Title: (no subject)
Post by: Xorlak on November 23, 2006, 09:33:24 AM
You could write up a whole separate page if you want.  Another option would be to include a "between chapters 10-11" section in each character's bio.  Or both!  For me I'm just going to let it fly, and let it be revealed what happened in the RP itself.
Title: (no subject)
Post by: Dude Man on November 23, 2006, 02:51:43 PM
I say just put it in the character's bio and the nation's history. I don't think a whole new page is needed.
Title: (no subject)
Post by: D. Ein on November 23, 2006, 08:14:58 PM
I feel too tired to argue with you, DM. I just won't write anything at all. I had a huge thing already written for the history, but since you're being evil, I won't write anything at all, and will try to reveal it through the storyline.

Hi, I've never really posted on this part of the forum before. So my characters for this chapter is Coriko and a new guy called Druid. His information is as follows, thank you. Oh and I know I sound like a noob but keep that to yourself please, becasue we were all noobs at one point.

(NAME)
Name: Druid
Gender: Male
Race:  Warlock
Specialization: Shadow Magic
Age: 30
Job: lord of his realm
Weapon: a black staff with a ruby on the top
Alliance: None
(DESCRIPTION)
Height: 6?3
Build: Athletic
Hair: Black and short
Clothing: Black cloak with hood, black shirt and black pants
Eye colour: grey
Body art: none
Facial hair:  5 o-clock shadow
(BIO)
At any early age Druid was recognized as an enhanced individual. He had heightened abilities compared to the rest of his race. He quickly rose to a position of power. By the age of 27 he was in charge of his realm, with help from the elder comitee. Druid got rid of the comitee within a week. Druid demanded respect from his subjects. He was a strict leader and was very hard on criminals, but he got things done. After a couple years in charge Druid was challenged by another person seeking power and the man?s name was Silas. Silas rallied the people of their world, and they stormed the fortress where Druid lived. Druid was ready for the attack and took at the people in great numbers at a time. Finally when the people saw their numbers meant nothing as long as they were against Druid on his territory, they retreated. This is when Silas joined the fight. Silas transported the entire fortress including himself and Druid to the border world. This drained him considerable, but he was still ready for a fight. Druid and Silas fought and Druid struck him down into the border world bog. This destroyed Silas?s skin and mind. Silas knew he couldn?t beat Druid so he opened a portal and sent Druid to Gaian.

I hope he sounds okay, by the way the race of warlock I created. I made a post for it on Dalpedia to. If I shouldn't have please tell me.

Jeez, DM, quit double-posting! Razz

Since I introduced the golems, I think I should go write a page on that. Does anyone think they need some balancing tweaks? By the way, I understand this is more of a story than a game... I'm just trying not to be uber-powerful, and at the same time, I really like the idea of golems. Actually, I really like the idea of anything that can be created of something and think for itself.

Anyways, any other comments welcome as well.

Post by: Dude Man on December 02, 2006, 08:59:52 AM
The golems are cool. We could use a page for them.

I made a page for <a href='http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Lizaberg' target='_blank'>Lizaberg</a> which is Gorus' new fortress.

Unbalanced races are fine.  It just depends on how you use them weather they're fair or not.  Don't think anyone *currently* participating has any problems.  (Heh...)

Hey, you guys think we should make a technology page for the Wiki? Like it'll include the crazy weapons, like machine guns, magic cannons and gravity vortexes. And the vehicles like Airships and the Leviathan.
Title: (no subject)
Post by: Xorlak on December 06, 2006, 09:46:01 AM
Probably a good idea, although I initially wanted to stay away from more high tech stuff in the RP.  None of it is imposing, though, so it's all fine.

Well, having a page that is called Technology doesn't mean like ray blasters and hover tanks. Like even the wheel is an example of technology.

That Fairy page is good but I looked at that other page you made...Skills? Please don?t take this the wrong way but I do not like that page. As far as I'm concerned Skills is just another name for Specializations. I know I don't have the authority, but I'd say no to having that page. It is unneeded and it's really poorly done.

But let's just see what Xorlak has to say...

Title: (no subject)
Post by: Dude Man on December 08, 2006, 07:55:24 AM
I think the Asgarnian Energy Rifle is over powered. I think guns aren't allowed to be that powerful in DAL.

I do like them however, but they're a bit too high tech. I recommend lowering the power and tossing in some "powered by magic" in there. Wink

EDIT: I made the page for <a href='http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Anti-Magic_Gas' target='_blank'>Anti-Magic Gas</a>.

Nah, they're okay.  (Heh...) Reminds me of certain first person shooters.  Obviously they're powered my magic.  I mean, what isn't?  (Heh...)

Yeah, it seems skills could be merged with specializations.

Okay so, we've got most of the main pages on DALpedia completely done. Locations and NPCs still have a couple of red links and just Velken for Races. Wink

Oh and Xorlak, from what I understand Retan looks just like, Xorlak the Mystic Sword character/Guy in your display picture/you. Perhaps you could put that ownage picture on his wiki page?

Xorlak, what do you think i should do with Horus? I kinda want to keep him, but I can't find a good way to introduce him... any ideas?

Also, here's something I made while talking to DM, who gave me... inspiration (Just kidding). Totally my next character.

Name: Lord Shadowstalker
Gender: Male
Race: Demon
Specialization(s): Katana and shiruken mastery
Age: 13
Job: A berserker mercenary
Weapon(s): He has two weapons. One is a long, slender black katana which drains the opponent's health when it strikes (as well as cuts him). The other is a large broadsword-like cleaver, which is actually 6 swords in 1.
Alliance: No one but himself
Description: Long white hair, a trenchcoat, and a body covered in deep scars. Two metal shoulder pads.
Bio: Lord Shadowstalker hates killing, although he's a berserker mercenary. Every time he kills someone, he sheds a tear for them while ripping their body to shreds in search of good loot that will pawn for lots of gold. He had a father that hated him and beat him and a mother that left him at a very early age, although she loved the father very much. Lord Shadowstalker (whose birth name was Lenny) decided to one day leave his father forever. He trained long and hard under an ancient master Sensei, who lived a hermit-like life high up in near-unreachable mountains. He trained and trained and trained and before he knew it he had crazy berserkerish powers (like a berserker), two weapons that he found on some guy's corpse, and skills nobody could accomplish in one mortal life. He now travels in search of his idiot half-brother, who (as Lord Shadowstalker believes) is the key to ultimate power in this dimension.

Not sure about the Grey palace.  I would imagine that since the Greys fell it wouldn't be there any more.  There was never a proper attack made on it through the RP storyline, so really anything could have happened to it.

Yeah yeah, Velkens are coming... (Heh...)  Problem is they have a huge detailed backstory, so I need to sort out what needs to go in the article and how much is going to be saved for the RP and labled as "mysterious" and "unknown" for now.  (Heh...)

Retan does look a lot like Xorlak, but he's not exactly the same (Retan has spiked shoulder armor, for instance).  Been meaning to do a sketch of him for a while.

I would imagine that since he got into the Dark Empire quitely with Draven, he could have stayed there and perhaps served under them without problems.  Or maybe he heard what happened to Draven and slipped out, searching for him or something.  Your call!

Nick:  Looks okay.  Might want to describe what the heck those weapons are, though.  (Heh...)

Oh and a question about Asgarnia. Are there guards around and about it?

Hehehe... let's see...

Number 1 is Draven, 2 looks like ol' Iduran.

3 I'm not sure.  Kinda looks like a Jedi.  (Heh...)

4 looks like Duilin in his old Dark Empire getup.

Hmmm, 5 is tough.  Sigilus?

I took liberties about guards around Asgarnia in my last post.  (Heh...)
Title: (no subject)
Post by: Dude Man on December 22, 2006, 04:14:25 PM
3 is Scorch, before his final battle with Draven in Chapter 1. You're right on with the rest of them, however.

But yeah, another reason I did that, is because I've actually been thinking of making a TK game based on DAL. I'll likely have it just be Chapter 1-5 if I choose to do it at all. I'd like to use edited DAX sprites for it. Yet rather then play as a character in the story, you'll make your own guy, join the story and choose your alignment as you go. Of course I'd only do this if it was okay with Xorlak, but I'd assume it would be since you did allow Aminaga to attempt on making that DAL game based on Chapter 6.

Then again, maybe you only allowed him to do that because you never thought he'd even release a demo (which he didn't, heheh).

Ah, yes, the gradual shift of an NPC to a character. If I were working like that, I'd have a good... 10 or 11 characters by now. Let's see if I can name all the guys I've "characterized" over the last little while.

1. Amaya
2. Zjott
3. The Elder
4. Damien Roth (kind of Dark Spartan's)
5. Arlin
6. Vorren
7. Hasterb
8. Soghol (GAWD!!!)
9. Victo
10. Jacob
11. Necirrijel
12. Iban

and probably many more, which I can't be bothered to remember. Whoo!

It would seem as though I have to leave DAL for... well, I don't know. But in any case, there is a chance I might not come back. Too bad all my characters are left hanging.

What?! So suddenly? Why? Are you serious?

Explain yourself!

Heh, time constraints?  Internet issues?  Either way, we'll be here waiting.  Do return!

It doesn't make sense how you wouldn't know why you have to leave. I mean, you wouldn't leave unless you had a reason and if you had a reason then you would know it.

Man, I hate it when somebody joins an RP makes a bunch of characters. Gets then deeply involved with the story line and then leaves, (nearly) destroying the entire RP. It's rather indecent to be honest.

EDIT: I thought I'd bring it too everyone's attention that already three or four posts have been added to the top ten list. I think two by D.S. and/or Ein and one by me. Heh, doesn't surprise me. But Haraldur's post has already been demoted to third.

when i said "i had to leave for... well, i don't know", i meant i don't know how long. definately longer than a month. I won't be on the internet on this time at all, and neither on the computer. The reasons for this have nothing to do with grounding. i decided to seriously get a grasp of myself and actually TRY in school, so i don't end up like dm here flipping burgers the rest of his life Razz if i manage to drag up my marks to at least above 85%, i will return. if not, i will scarcely even go on the computer. Pleasure RP'ing with you all. Consider that all my characters suddenly fell in a coma, or vanished from existence.

A noble reason.  No need for your characters to disappear just because they're not being updated, as there's plenty of other things going on.  We'll just walk around them.  Thank you for RP-ing and we will be awaiting your triumphant return!

I recent that Ein! You can't call me dumb and lazy, when you're too lazy to even put capitals at the beginning of your sentences!

(And don't come back saying "BUT DUDEMAN I NEVER SAID THAT YOU ARE DUMB AND LAZY IN MY POST LOL" Because what you said was implying it when you implied I don't try in school.

I only don't try, because they don't try to get my attention. I'm not getting paid to learn they're getting paid to teach me! So why don't they get off their asses and teach me god damnit!

Yeah I know. Ein's pretty selfish Razz . (half joking)

Well perhaps Nick could spot a wanted poster for Duilin. He's in Asgarnia right? Perhaps he could notice the fight's going on around the inn.

Wow. That's inconvenient. Considering all of his Kandie characters are unavailable now. Oh well. Alex has had it hard recently. He deserves a break (or at least fighting something that isn't Kandie).

On another note, I've decided to make Midna a full-fledged character, considering the amount of character development she's going through, as well as her relationship with Alex. You can find her article on the DALpedia now.

Looks good DS, nice job. Oh and too add some more consistency with the Dark Age games, I moved the Wind Magic page to the Air Magic page.

Okay, just archived chapter 11.  A nice fun reasonably sized chapter for a change.  (Heh...)  Blast it, if I knew Renard was going to play such a major role I would have given him a more imaginative name than the French word for 'fox'.

We'll take a week off, do sign-ups for a few days to a week, then get back on it.

All right then, good show everyone! (No, I'm not British.)

I see many things happening between Alex and Midna in Chapter 12.

Boo.
That about sums up all I have to say.
Look at me. I had so many plans, and then had them ruined by the plans of others.
Tsk. It is as if fate itself stands in my way.
Very well then, fate! Un garde!

Pretty good chapter, but not the best one ever. Chapter 10 was probably my favorite. I thought the fight with Duilin and Draven at the end was a grand ending.

Next chapter I think I'll make a new character and kill him off, I like doing that. Heheh...

Updated the Dark Continent map:

Sort of guessed on Asgarnia's location.  Let me know if I'm wrong.

"Bane" will come into play in the future...  (Heh...)

Eh. I never really gave its location relative to other places. Looks good though. The Glacia Mountains are to the west of it.

All I mentioned in Asgarnia's DALpedia article was that it was in the moderate latitudes with a temperate climate. It seldom snows there, and when it does, it's melted off by midday.

Hope that helps.

Awesome. It looks like "Bane" has taken place of the Grey Palace. I automatically thought of Bane from Batman and then Darth Bane from them Star Wars comics I never read.

Holy snikes! We only have 8 wanted pages left which each only have 1 link towards them. I'll talk to D. Ein at school tomorrow and get some info on the Kandarin Cities. I may be able to do Necirrejel and Arlin myself.

Indeed.  Very nice work on the articles, everyone.  I never thought we'd have a complete encyclopedia on practically everything DAL in less than a year's time!

Ah yes. Now thanks to me (and I guess the rest of you guys. Heheh.) Any newcomer will be able to be totally up to date because of DALPedia.

Man, we rule. We need to sell this to some anime company. I'm sure they'd crap themselves over DAL. We'd be all be like, multi-thousandaires. B)

Well that's what my mom says. She really thinks I need to get paid for this.

Tomorrow I'm going to post the Chapter 12 signups, which will contain all the information you need to know.  If you want to get started early though, go ahead and read the first post of this topic and the rules (I'd don't think I'm going to change the rules much for chapter 12).

I would recommend reading the last two pages of the RP or so as well, just so you can get a feel of how things work.  Or if you're feeling ambitious (we do have a week or so before we start up again) you can read the whole <a href='http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Chapter_11' target='_blank'>Chapter 11</a>.  It's a tad slower paced than normal, but there's some good stuff in there.

Welcome!
