Title: DAL GAME!?!?!?
Post by: Drannic_Lord01 on March 25, 2007, 09:59:05 PM
(Note: I don't expect anybody to respond to this except Xorlak, considering he's the only one who has power over this. Anyone else should probably just ignore this until I have my questions answered Smile .)

Xorlak,

     I've been wondering about making a game for Dark Age Legends. I'd break it down into chapters, or important events, like the fall of Romme. I have off for a whole 2 months, starting April 1st, and could really put in a lot of effort.

     The reason I'd ask you something like this is because I need your permission to begin such a game project as this. It would have the traditionality of the dark age theme, but with deeply compiled and fully thought out programing by me, of course.

     I'm not saying this won't be an arduous task, but I do know you didn't really think about making this a game; just something we do on the Dark Age forum. I know everyone in the RP would be intrested, and I'm pretty sure you know too. What do you say, Xorlak?

Hmmm, third proposal for a game here.

If you want to take a crack at it, go ahead, knock yourself out.  (Heh...)  Just be sure to give credit where it is due.

Bah!! I said I was doing it as soon as the next Toolkit Release!! It's just the new one will be the best for what I want the game to be like.

I had a feeling you'd want to make a game Drannic. But I called it first Razz.

But if you really want to make one, perhaps we could join forces, I have a ton of awesome ideas...

Like, rather than play as an existing character, you make your own character and play him into the story, and follow your own path. Also, rewrite most of the Chapter 1 dialogue and exclude some of the characters that didn't do anything (like Aminaga, seriously. It's a matter of opinion, if he was included in the game, he'd have everyone be like "WTF!?", and 75% of the stuff his character did was only to steal spotlight and have 'his game' be better.)
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?
Post by: Jenia on March 26, 2007, 02:45:37 PM
The best way to follow the chapters in manner of gameplay without completly changing them would be to make a game system that is like SaGa Frontier 2 (not that you RPG noobs know what that is =P ) with each scene being pick-able... Like, at first you can only choose scene 1, any character, then completing it unlocks scene 2 that is some time later, and so forth...

Oh, and if you dare make a non-party battle system, I swear I'm going to strangle the next cow I come across.
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?
Post by: Dude Man on March 26, 2007, 02:57:32 PM
I wouldn't want it to be a non-party-battle system. But I wouldn't want a single path game, I'd want the player be able to choose who he wants to join, the Dark Empire, Grey Empire, the Aspyes Revolution…anyone.

Oh and even be able to affect a few other characters, like perhaps have Duilin become evil, since he was a manipulative person around the start.

Oh and have an alignment system like Fable and Knights of the Old Republic.

Some characters like Haraldur, Retan and Melkoth should be unplayable I say. They are (were) just too strong, plus they're too important too the story line.
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?
Post by: Jenia on March 26, 2007, 03:00:13 PM
Then why not just make a game which is based in the same world, but doesn't follow DAL's chapters?
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?
Post by: Dude Man on March 26, 2007, 03:04:44 PM
Because then I would have to re-write the entire story line.

But then again, I suppose MY game could be just based on DAL, when Drannic's game could be just like DAL. But my idea of being able to change a few other character's path of the story is just an idea, not a must have.

But it would stink if you played the DAL game and was forced to play as Duilin, Draven, D.Ein or whoever, when you wanted to play another part of the story. Perhaps at least and choose your character, would be enough for DAL game.

Already been mentioned. I think that CHANGING the story in any way would be some sort of ruinage, if you know what I mean...
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?
Post by: Dude Man on March 26, 2007, 03:14:33 PM
Oh yeah. This actually reminds me of an idea of a fighting game that I wanted to make.

Hmm, but I think that idea is actually better. I think my idea will be saved for just The Black Walkway 2 or something. I still really want to make a DAL Game.

So Drannic you want to join forces?
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?
Post by: Jenia on March 26, 2007, 03:21:00 PM
So there.

Also, I'd suggest you release each chapter as a seperate part.
This way you'll feel more like working, since you'll feel you actualy accomplished something after finishing work on a single chapter. Not to mention it makes it easier to deal with chapters not yet done, like 13, 14...
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?
Post by: Dude Man on March 26, 2007, 03:32:17 PM
Yeah, I was thinking we could have the games released one chapter after another but it would just be like releasing demos. They'd be divided into games, with chapter 1-5 and then 6-10 etc, just for File Size and Download Time reasons.
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?
Post by: Drannic_Lord01 on March 26, 2007, 03:44:16 PM
Very well. I've already started on re-opening Dark Age Legends to those who've never heard of it in the intro via Windows Movie Maker. It's pretty hard to do everything starting from scratch. The intro will probably be released on May third. That's just a guess, so don't pester me about it if it goes a little over due.

I accept your offer, Dude man, but we must narrow down our focus. Perhapse you could work on the story and how it effects the alignment system, where as I could work on introducing a whole new visual of the lands of Gaian, featuring awsome pieces of music and splenderous graphics, for those of us that favor the 32 bit line. (lol Smile )

I'd like to do the sprites. I think they should fit with the same style as the Dark Age Games. I think Xorlak gave me the green light on using the DAX sprites as a template.

But I think we'll just go with the Character Selection and chapter unlocking, rather than making your own character, just to make it fit DAL more so.

By the way how are your coding skills?
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?
Post by: Drannic_Lord01 on March 27, 2007, 04:42:27 PM
I'm good with you doing the sprites, but you should probably work on the alignment meter as well. My coding is about 3/4 as good a Xorlak's, but I'm still good when it comes to long, informing speeches (aka: moving the sprites as they talk, sorting through events, etc.).

... Well, that's about all. I'm a bit over 1/8 the way done with the intro, too! You'll be happy to see it, as it's kicking 'A'. I might want to add some more details as to how the game plays out, though... eh...

So, everything your characters say effects the alignment meter, huh... we may need some help with this one, I tell ya. It's likely that we may need to get a few nerds from the TKZ web to help us out. What do you think?
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?
Post by: Dude Man on March 27, 2007, 05:03:02 PM
Dude, you kidding that'd be easy. Simple have a variable called "Alignment" and whenever you say something "Good" your alignment would increase and vice-versa so make something like this

Code: [Select]
If choice = evil
(
    Alignment = alignment - 1
ElseIf choice = good
    Alignment = alignment + 1
)

Forgive me if this isn't the standard If. I haven't touch RPGCode in over a year, and I've been working with VB for the past month.
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?
Post by: Drannic_Lord01 on March 27, 2007, 05:42:04 PM
I meant as in on the menu screen! We're going to have to display it somewhere, Dude man...

Anyways, it's going to be no small feat, using the alignment meter for almost every single program script, not to mention how annoying it will get after a while.
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?
Post by: D. Ein on March 27, 2007, 09:19:23 PM
*Through the deathly silent streets crawls a cloaked man... oh no! Could it be? It's a ninja about to hijack the thread!*

Heh. I hope DM doesn't take this the wrong way, but I seem to be a little better in VB than him. However, as much as looking at the TK code gives me nightmares. It's...scary.....

Baaaack to the topic. Go ahead and make the game, but if you get as far as chapter, uhh, 9, I believe (whenever it was that Kronos popped into existance), I have a special request. Make no mention of my characters, as half of them were complete n00bs, except for Kronos. Even then, just make him a generic hero guy... not the monarch of Kandarin. Guhh.... I feel certain hatred towards my poor characters now after writing that post in the other thread.
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?
Post by: Drannic_Lord01 on March 27, 2007, 10:27:43 PM
Even still, a n00b is a character, and all characters will be added to the game, maybe with a tweak here and there to make them seem either better, more intelligent, or more realistic.

I also wanted to ask Xorbak if it would be okay to put the demo on his web site as soon as it's finished. It probably would look like a copyright anywhere else, so why not put it on the official site?

Moving along, my production is coming good so far. I've finished most of the programing so far with the exception of a few custom-made sprites until DM e-mails me his. 'drannic_lord01@yahoo.com' is my e-mail adress, incase you need to know. (I had to change it before)
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?
Post by: Xorlak on March 28, 2007, 07:20:51 PM
I only put my games on my site.  But it would be okay to post a link to it from DALpedia, if you manage to make it to a demo stage.
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?
Post by: D. Ein on March 28, 2007, 07:26:16 PM
Well the alignment display on the menu would not be too hard. We could just have a different colour background depending on your alignment (like blue for good and red for bad) and have an If statement for the background.

Then it would just show your alignment as a number on the character stats part of the menu (like it does in Fallout if you play that game).

BTW: This is DM logged on D.Ein's account because I'm at his house.
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?
Post by: Drannic_Lord01 on March 28, 2007, 08:33:02 PM
The intro is looking good!   Cool  slick.

Yeah, about the alignment measurement, I kind of wanted a statistic menu for the game, like in Fable. I also have a few more ideas for the tides of the story line. Couldn't we just take a person from the RP and replace him/her with a custom-made character by the player so that they could have a custom-made name? They would follow the same story, of course, but it would just be altered a bit... Hope that's okay, Xorlak.

Dark Age Legends, the Fall of Romme. Comming soon for PC...

(Note: I have to set that up with DM still... Hope he doesn't mind the title. I thought it was cool... Just thought I'd do a little advertizing.)

Here are some of the amazing fetures I hope to add on to the game:

     ~ Alignment system, like in Fable or Starwars KotoR and KotoR II

     ~ Real-time battle system like in Morrowind, or Oblivion, or even The Legend Of ZELDA.

     ~ Radiant A.I. like in Oblivion... (Heh... that game's the coolest ever...)

     ~ Ultimate character theme songs! (Just a thought...)

     ~ Level up control, like in Fable, or Starwars, or even Dark Age II for that matter.

     ~ Ultimate specializations menu system. (Enough said)

The Fall Of Romme is what is honestly what I was considering to call it.

Real Time BS? No I don't think so, that doesn't fit well with DA or even what I'd want for DAL.

Well, actually some games can let you choose Real-Time or Turned Based! We'd just have the player choose at the beginning of the game.

Fallout Tactics and Star Wars KotOR (I'm not 100% on the second one, because I haven't played either of them for a month, but I know Fallout Tactics does for a fact)
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?

But... This one is not a tactical game... is it?
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?
Post by: Dude Man on March 30, 2007, 03:15:03 PM
No. But I'm not saying "Let's use the Fallout Tactics Battle System" I'm saying "Let's have two battle systems and the player can choose."

If nobody agrees to that then we should just have a Poll or something to choose...
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?
Post by: D. Ein on March 30, 2007, 03:54:33 PM
I have to go with DM's first opinion. Real-time does not work for a DAL-based game. I don't see how it would.
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?
Post by: Drannic_Lord01 on March 30, 2007, 04:03:41 PM
Yeah, I'd agree with DM. The player can choose. That's probably a better idea seeing how some people *cough* Jenia *cough* don't like RTB system style. I can work around a lot with it though, so it'll be good for me. DM, you also have to e-mail me those sprites. My e-mail is Drannic_Lord01@yahoo.com if it already isn't obvious.

Another few things I have to ask you guys:

     - What TK version would Dark Age Legends, the Fall of Romme, use?

     - How are we going to have the player choose their alliance?

     - Should players have alignment-based spells? (just a thought)

     - Will players be able to CHOOSE their spells as they level up, instead of just leveling up and getting standard spells?

     - Will players be able to CHOOSE their class?

     - Will players be able to pick new abilities as they level up? (Starwars KotoR equivalent is feats)

This is pretty much it for now. I hope to see this game get more progress in the near future... Also, just TWO MORE DAYS!!! I can't wait!

TK3, preferably we wait until the next version before we start making boards and such (maybe just planning, concept and graphic making)

Quote
How are we going to have the player choose their alliance?

Either we have at the beginning of each chapter the player choose what character they want to play as. Or have the custom character and they'll choose at the start if they wish to be with the Dark Empire, Romme Kingdom or be Rouge. However throughout the story they'll be given the choice to switch sides about mid chapter 1 (Like how Duilin went from the Empire to Romme and Sigilus went from Rouge to Dark Empire).

Quote
Should players have alignment-based spells? (just a thought)

No actually. Duilin and Zeros' use a lot of evil-like spells (ie: life draining, hell spawn techniques) but they're mostly shown as the good guys.

Quote
Will players be able to CHOOSE their spells as they level up, instead of just leveling up and getting standard spells?

Yes.

Quote
Will players be able to CHOOSE their class?

I'd rather have them choose their Race. They should just build their own 'class' as they level up.

Quote
Will players be able to pick new abilities as they level up? (Starwars KotoR equivalent is feats)

Personally I think all RPGs need that now-a-days.

I've got to be honest here. I've been quite lazy with all of my projects, and I've neglected a few way too much. I'm hopping that I can get around to all of my slightly and lazily compiled junk files and folders for DAL Fall of Romme orginized soon. I've also been working on a DAL-based comic to just kill time. When the first issue comes out, I'll probably post it on a new topic.

Can't say I blame you. I've been 'working' on my remake of The Black Walkway for three years now. The Toolkit can be pretty fun, but it takes longer to make a short game then it takes to play a long one. So you can see how one can be lazy with game making.

I was thinking we could either...

A) Use the same tiles Xorlak used in DA/DAX, since those were ripped.
B) Download some tiles that look fitting with the characters.
C) Make our own.

Well, the tutorial program includes some basic functions such as:

- alignment

- basic skills and attributes

- turn based battle

- a new menu system

- a new battle system

- maps

- main quest (start)

- two side quests (just made them up for fun)

- character menu (select a DAL character, or make your own)

- weapons menu (select a weapon from the list, or make your own and gather more power with it as you venture through the world of Gaian)

- weapons upgrades (change the style and power of your weapons with weapon upgrades)

so far, I've only been able to program the first seven on the list, and I'm currently working on the other two to start the demo. Let me know if I'm missing anything, if you've found/made good tilesets for the game, if you've got custom character ideas, or just anything else I didn't mention.

E-mail me the tilesets at drannic_lord01@yahoo.com

Thanks!

I don't know if we should actually bother with the creating your own character. If you make your own, it might stray to far from DAL. Plus it would be really hard to program the story sequences and might even take away from the story.

But if you can figure out a good way to do it then go ahead I guess.

I was able to begin programming beyond the tutorial for custom chars. and the tutorial for Draven, Iduran, Duilin, Zero's, Sigilus, and Scorch. Custom characters so far are as follows:

Dark Soldier = Strength+ Agility+
(levels up to Dark Knight, Dark Marauder, General, and then High General)

Lizardman = Strength+ Endurance+ Intelligence-
(levels up by class... mehhehheh...)

Squire = Strength+ Endurance+ Agility-
(levels up to Knight, High Knight, Commander, and then Champion)

Martial Artist = Strength+ Speed+ Agility+ Endurance-
(levels up by belt... mehhehheh...)

Mage = Intelligence+ Willpower+ Strength-
(levels up to Battlemage, Magician, High Magician, and then Master Wizard)

Ninja = Strength+ Speed+ Agility+ Endurance- Willpower-
(levels up by belt... mehhehheh...)

Spy = Speed+ Agility+ Intelligence+ Willpower-
(levels up to Assassin, Murderer, Silencer, and then Marauder)

Please, let me know if you want to submit a class! The attributes for classes are as follows:

Strength, Endurance,
Intelligence, Willpower,
Agility, Speed, Dexterity,
Charisma, Luck.

OH NOES DUBBLE POST!!!

I have a few issues with how you ordered the classes actually.

Quote
Mage = Intelligence+ Willpower+ Strength-
(levels up to Battlemage, Magician, High Magician, and then Master Wizard)

I always kind of thought mages to be better skilled in magic than Magicians. I automatically think of those people who pull rabits out of hats and saw people in half.

Quote
Spy = Speed+ Agility+ Intelligence+ Willpower-
(levels up to Assassin, Murderer, Silencer, and then Marauder)

Maybe switch Murderer with Assassin. Murderers are just people who have illegally killed somebody; an assassin is usually somebody skilled in doing that and/or does that regularly.

Oh and I have a couple of classes to submit!

Pirate = Luck+ Dexterity+ Willpower-
(levels up to Buccaneer, Swashbuckler, Matey, Pirate Captain)

Diplomat = Charisma+ Intelligence+ Strength- Endurance- [Boring idea, but who knows what people want?]
(levels up to Envoy, Nobleman, Senator, Ambassador)
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?

Fixed/Added these new player classes!

Magician = Intelligence+ Willpower+ Strength-
(levels up to Skilled Mage, Arcanist, Battlemage, and then Master Wizard)

Spy = Speed+ Agility+ Intelligence+ Willpower-
(levels up to Murderer, Assassin, Silencer, and then Marauder)

Pirate = Luck+ Dexterity+ Willpower-
(levels up to Buccaneer, Matey, Ship Captain, Fleet Commador)

Noble = Charisma+ Intelligence+ Strength-

I still think that it would be best if you couldn't make your own character, only have them be selectable from a list.

I am currently developing storylines for the custom made characters. It's a bit hard right now, but I'll manage. I was also wondering if anybody has any ideas for the custom character storylines. Please give me some ideas!

Current completed stories for Dark Soldier and Lizardman are pending. Others I haven't even started. If we work on different stories at a time, I'm sure we'll get a lot more done.

Also completed these features:
- two side quests (just made them up for fun)
- character menu (select a DAL character, or make your own)
- weapons menu (select a weapon from the list, or make your own and gather more power with it as you venture through the world of Gaian)
- advanced special weapon battle system (get different special attacks for the different types of weapons and armors you have equipped)
- beginner spelltome (achived after first side quest. starts you out with six basic spells; fireball, frostbite, lightning bolt, rock shower, sunbeam, and darkness)
- novice spelltome (achived after the second side quest. starts you out with four basic summoning spells; vile lizard, shade, ghost, and skeleton (last two are necromancer spells))

That's about it as of right now. If you'd like to chip in, it would sure save me a hell of a lot more time! Thanks. Also, I'm looking for some really cool game quotes to spice up the prologue of the game. I haven't got much on the prologue right now, but it keeps the flow of the game connected to which ever path you choose (light/neutral/dark).

Although I'm sure it's obvious, you should plan ahead...

Make sure you can transfer your saves from chapter 1 to chapter 2 (for keeping the same stats)

What if your game will rock so much that you will want to make a sequel? Say, chapters 4-6?

Thought I should show this off. Personally I think I did a pretty good job.

And yes, Drannic, I have e-mailed it to you as a tileset.

Oh yeah, and I have a suggestion for the custom character class thing. I think it would be cool as you go up in your rank, you look different (ie: different armour/clothing/build).

Yes, those look awsome! And as for the suggestion, I'm already doing that.

And as an added note, I'm just about done with the custom menu system. I'll post a pic of it when I'm done.

Goodie. But yeah, don't worry I'll make the sprites of the higher classes if you can't. In fact I want to Razz.

Especially the lizard man, I've got a few ideas for that.

Now for the lizard man classes, like it doesn't fully make sense how they go up a class since if you’re born an A-Class or a B-Class you won't ever upgrade. But I suppose it doesn't need to make sense, since you're playing as a non-cannon character. But I guess we could explain it with like some morph/evolution gem or egg or something like that.

Now I was wondering will your alliance be determined by your class, like if you play as a Squire or a Mage then you start off with Romme and if you play as a Dark Warrior or a Lizard man then you're with the Dark Empire and I guess with the other classes you'll be given a choice, I suppose.

I don't have a problem with that... infact, I'm seeming really lazy right now, so go ahead. I'm actually going to take a break from DAL, Fall of Romme, for a little and find where I put my brain... It's around here somewhere... Anyways, you guys go on ahead without me for a while.

Dran's back up and screwing around with the new toolkit release! (3.10.0) This should make things a bit easier for programing the game, what with all the new features! Two notes you should keep in mind:

(1.) I've been drawing and sketching, drawing and sketching, and sketching and drawing, and I'm up to my knees in eraser shavings! I've decided that there will be only two custom classes for characters, which are Class-E Lizardman and Squire. This is just for me to be able to keep my sanity as I'm trying to program the level-ups and such. Also, once I get the hang of it, I'll add the other ones in some sort of update package or something.

(2.) In order to unlock certain characters, you must beat the game with either Duilin, Iduran, or Zeros', as these are the only three characters you may play for in the begining of the game. You cannot unlock new characters with custom class people, but you may unlock new items in the store by spending game points (points you aquire after completing main quest missions and killing a certain number of enemies).

More comming soon!

This topic could use a revival. I know there's a rule against bringing back topics that are old, but I think it would be better this way rather than creating a whole new topic. Anyhow, I've restarted everything I've been working on and need some assistance with menu systems for certain things. I've got no idea what I'm going to do about the main menu or battle menues, but for now, I've recreated my stuff and moved to the even newer release of the toolkit. There are also some notes I want to discuss and points I want to get across with you guys who're still with me on this.

Issue 1: What are we going to use as board tiles? Xorlak ruled out using his stuff, and I'd feel bad about plagiarizing anyways. Besides, we're bound to come up with our own somehow...

Issue 2: We've got some nice character sets, thanks to DM, but could you convert those into 32X64 images? I could do that if you just give me pictures of the entire tileset and let me cut and paste with paint and such.

Issue 3: As far as I'm concerned, we're just winging this and seeing where it goes, which isn't necissarily a bad idea, but I kind of want a little base plan. I wanted to ask you guys how good everybody is at programming, because I'm having issues with a number of bugs with certain things like item upgrades and all that jazz.

Issue 4: As far as programming goes, what little programs you guys can give me, from mere conversation with another npc to continue the storyline, to a mega-awsome menu system with upgrade points for level ups, will help me a great deal. If you can pitch in some ideas of one type or another about some programs or maybe advice on how to get started with some sort of level-up system, please, by all means, I'm listening.

That about covers it. I hope we can get farther with this now that I've got more free time.

Um, if you've downloaded the new toolkit, and played around with the animation wizard you'd find it a lot easier to make animations with tilesets know. Plus it saves A LOT of space. Making them all individual bitmaps for each sprite is a pain to do and it's unnecessary now. Wink

I actually meant 'board' tiles. I've got no problem with animating the tiles anymore, actually. What I really have a problem with is trying to get some for grass, buildings, caves, etc. I meant getting actual tilesets for those.

Wow, didn't really see that neato tile wizard. That's actually pretty badass. That was really the only problem I had with tk3...

Anywho, on to more pressing matters. I would like somebody other than me to make a menu system, seeing as how I'm not so great at making those. I just flat-out suck when it comes to menus, and I don't want to convert the ones I made from tk2. Those kinda sucked anyways. Anybody up for menus? Also, if anybody does get around to it, here's what I'd like to have in there; just some basic stuff, feel free to throw in some ideas. Team effort ftw!

1.) equipment and items (duh on my part)
2.) alignment meter bar
3.) health, mana, and experience bars
4.) a little help on the level up thingy (I'm still not too sure what we're doing with that just yet, any ideas?)

Well, that about covers the basics that I need, plus 2 extras. Any other ideas?

On another cool note, my e-mail for some reason can't send .wav or .mp3 files, so I've decided to try and make a Myspace band. I know, it sounds cheesy, but I can't really put them anywhere else and/or I'm just too lazy to try anything else.

Here's the url:

In case that one doesn't work, try this one:
http://http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=401052478

Enjoy listening! Once I get more songs up there, it'll at least LOOK much better. Meh, I'm workin' on it, don't pester me. Also, unfortunately, I can only upload 6 songs, so that'll cut off some of the ones I want to put on there. I'll just stick with the ones I think that are the best.

There is this (http://http://www.toolkitzone.com/files.php?file=1599) which can be used to help us with the menu. I checked it out a little while ago, seems useful. If you still don't want to do the menu, I might be able to make one.

You and me I think are the only RPGcoders here, actually.Unless by some twist-of-fate Xorlak wants to help us. But I doubt it. Heheh.

Awsome, thanks for the advice! Also, if you've down;oaded the file as well, do you have the .pdf file that came with it? My Adobe Reader is being retarded and closes the moment I open it... do you think you could convert it to a notepad file and e-mail it to me?

It's alright if you can't, that might be asking too much... Also, did you check out the music that I have up so far? (On the url's in the previous post)

Okay, so far, I know we've got these things covered (if not, I know we can make them quickly and easily from here on out):

- Step One making "FoR" -
Menu System
Character Sprites
Music (working on my own)
Board Tiles (working on my own)

Here are some things we still need to work on, or at least I think we should after we know we're finished with the previous set:

Step Two making "FoR"
Scripting the story from the "FoR"
Spells and abilities
Status effects
NPC Dialogue (should come easily enough)
Factions, Guilds, and Empires
Starting quests
Main quest

Alright, that covers the first two steps of making the game, or at least the ones I want to get out of the way. I think step two might want to be split into two sepparate steps. Anyways, this isn't all "Do this first, then do this." I'm not about to order people around, this is a team project. I just wanted to set some prioraties straight. Please, if you have any comments or ideas, share them STAT.

Thanks!

The Factions, Guilds and Empires should be easy enough since we just have Romme and the Dark Empire at the start. That feature sounds to me like this might become too MMORPG-esque without the MMO...
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?
Post by: Drannic_Lord01 on August 04, 2008, 08:12:50 AM
You can leave one 'M' on there for massive. (Heh...)

Any who, I think I've got an idea as to how the game's gonna role out. Instead of playing an already made character, you'll make your own and tie it into the other characters' storylines. but I do want to narrow down the races to four, which would be as follows:

Lizardman
'Dark' Soldier
'Regular' Soldier
Mage

Maybe we could make the character's separate stories as different games, or even later expansion packs? Well, I'm really into the custom character thing, so that's deffinately good for me. what about you guys?
Title: Re: DAL GAME!?!?!?
Post by: Dude Man on August 04, 2008, 10:54:45 AM
Four sounds good. I think the Lizard Man and the Dark knight should start with the Dark Empire while the Mage and the knight should start off with Romme. But I think it was planned earlier for you to be able to choose to switch sides throughout the storyline.

I'm also thinking maybe the mage/knight could replace Patrick's storyline, as well as having his own stuff. Since he was a pretty minor and all.

Very Happy

I'm mostly just killing time here. The product is finished, there's nothing to test, and for the most part, there's little for me to do. While I'm at it, I'm checking the forums once or twice per work day. Nobody seems to be posting, so I'm trying to entertain myself as best as I can.

Umm, yeah games usually do take more than a year to make. Of course you wouldn't know that considering you've never made a game with the toolkit, so shuttie Razz.

A good example of a game that took over a year to make would be Dark Age 2.
