(Fine.  We'll start early.  Blast it!)

Welcome to Dark Age Legends, chapter 13 sign ups! Chapter 13 will pick up where chapter 12 left off, but due to the break in the action, this is an excellent point to jump in if you haven't already. If you haven't been following the story the entire way through, don't worry. You are not expected to read the entire RP-- just the summary and rules below. However, if you never played in a forum RP before (particularly this one) you may want to read a random page or two in the middle to get a sense of how everything works.

Chapter 11+ Story Arc Prelude

Gaian has been plunged into darkness.  The evil Dark Emperor Retan has returned with a horde of minions from other worlds, sealing up the heroes of Gaian as punishment for his past exodus.  Forming an unholy alliance with the Kandarinian Sovereignty, the two unchecked nations have run rampant, unleashing their fury upon the globe for the past 18 months.  The world is dying.  The darkness that was once confined to the Dark Continent is spreading.  Vicious creatures now run rampant across the land, sky, and sea.  All know and fear the Dark Empire?

Those that remain free from the tyrannical rule are few and far between.  Small pockets of resistance.  Small bands of freedom fighters that struggle to remain hidden, let alone survive...

OK, maybe I'm going too far with the drama there, but yeah, thank you Xrolak! =D

This time, I'm going to TRIPLE the amount of characters I use. Yes, triple. Since it's my 3 week break I can afford to do that.
It's still less than half as many as Xorlak uses, but meh.


Perhaps I'll add two or three more, if I feel like it...

EDIT: Iskatyl's page finished. Yeah, can't have too much of a bio on a 3 year old grown man.
EDIT2: Kerig and Weloss in. Why? Kronos is in.

I'm new, of course, so any tips shall be appreciated.

Character Biography:

Name: Jareth Droulard
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Specialization(s): Longsword Mastery, Minor Bladed (So everything bladed he is able to use, though not with major skill)
Age: 16
Job: None.
Weapon(s): Drayfear, a 68 inch sword with 50 inch blade. Held in a semi-sharp metal scabbard that can be used as a weapon. Hand guard is shaped in the form of a +, with a full tang handle wrapped in dark red cloth. Sword, hand guard, and scabbard made out of a strong unknown black metal. The name, Drayfear, is etched onto the sword blade in small lettering by the hand guard.
Alliance: None.
Description: 6 foot high, slender build with long white hair. Wearing a black robe overlaying a dark red shirt, and black pants, and black leather boots. Light blue eyes.
Biography: Jareth knows nothing about his past, except his name, up to December 3rd, 562 G. E. His first memory is waking up in a cave with a mysterious black cloaked being, who addressed himself as Tysid, and offered to help him regain his memories. From that day, Tysid and Jareth trained with bladed weapons, but focused mainly on longswords for reasons Jareth didn't know. Jareth became increasingly good at sword fighting, and Tysid rewarded him with a sword with "Drayfear" etched onto it. Tysid warned that the sword holds the power to recover his memories, and that "One should only unsheath the sword when the wielders life is in mortal danger."

Feel like I'm missing something, but i cant seem to find anything... (Heh)
I was wondering if "Longsword mastery" would be accepted, and if it isn't i can change it.
I was also wondering if i had to create a "profile" for Tysid, because he wont be around... long.
The continuation of the biography will take place in Chapter 13...

If theres anything i did wrong, feel free to point it out, as i am new. (As a matter of fact, feel free to beat me over the head with anything wrong...)

Welcome, Akuradavis!  You're approved.  Feel free to post in DALpedia.

If Tysid is going to be a minor NPC/character, then you don't have to worry about making a profile for him.  Only if/when you feel the character is important.  And "Longsword mastery" is perfectly acceptable.

Great! We got another one to join! This is going to be a lot better this time around, I'm telling you guys. I'm sure you'll fit right in. Just follow along with the time (heh... I had a bit of trouble with that myself.) and the important names and dates, and you'll be a commoner in no time at all! Oh, and keep these three things in mind while playing DAL, Akuradavis:

1 - Don't talk like you're in a chat room (i.e. LOL! R U 4 real? leik teh wy i'm tiping no.) Great Dran, that feels terrible writing like that...

2 - Use proper grammar as you type. Looking back at the posts, that seems to be getting a great amount of improvement, so you shouldn't have to worry about that too much. One note though, try to make your 'I's caps. Other then that, you're good so far.

3 - Never try to control other peoples characters. I look back at chapter one and see Zeros' moving Draven around like he's the friggen creator. I know it's on the rules, but try not to let a 'chapter one' happen again.

That's about it. Oh, and I made two new characters.

I normally use (Or try to use) proper grammar. I know i should capitalize my 'I's, its just a bad habit that i don't.

Oh, Xorlak, I was wondering, what time of the year&day does ch13 start in? I need to know if it's night or day (you'd be doing me a big favor by saying "night" Wink )and what season it is.

Why do I need the season, you ask? Why, it's because I'm prepared for detailed flora descriptions to go along with the massive amounts of gore, of course!

Anyways, just three more days 'til postin' time! I think that deserves a yay, right? Moving along, I'm working on the pics for my two new characters as we speak. I now have eight characters, and they're all part of the same story. Speaking of which, you guys should think of making pictures for your characters. It helps people to 'visualize the story', for want of a better phrase.

Look, Drannic, not everone, like you, dares draw their characters. Some of us have no scanners, or take so much pride in the awesomeness of their character, they are afraid of ruining them with a picture.

Ask DM! I made him some pretty stuff. But I can't make it for myself, because no matter what I make, I'd look at it and think "This is not how I imagined my character!"!

Meh. The only time I drew one of my characters was with Kronos, and that wasn't exactly original. Thank god Dippy helped me by drawing another picture of such, in a more menacing form. Both drawings can be found on Kronos' page.

Also, I think when they said hyped-up, they just meant high spirited Smile You're just a bit more active than other newcomers we've had in a while. Most of them come in, make a crappy character, post a crappy post with their crappy character, and are never heard of again. Sigh.

December 2nd 563 G.E., shortly after sunset.  (I'm just going to call it Dec. 3rd in the timeline (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Timeline)).

Seasons aren't something we've really got fleshed out.  I'm thinking wintry weather doesn't really come around until January or February in the Tjed region, and even then they're mild.  (I'm trying to retrofit the timeline to past chapters, you see, and need to explain why we've yet to see real cold or real hot weather. Heh...  Excepting climate specific areas, of course.)

... Sorry, I'm just bored out of my mind. I'm stuck in my basement until July comes around when I can get my new house. Yay! Until then, unfortunately, I'm stuck in my room down in the basement. That REALLY sucks, doesn't it?

Anyways, I was just bored, so I drew up some pics of my characters. Ehh, why not, you know? What else can you do when you're bored, stuck in your basement all day, whilst everything 'FUN' is upstairs?

Hey, Drannic, besides getting yourself addicted to SNES games, there are many things you can do to keep yourself entertained. Like, you can start by writing some posts in word/notepad before the RP starts. Of course, this can be only done with characters who do not interact with other characters in their first, but I bet you have those.
Then, after making such post, re-read it and refine it until it becomes a piece of art.

And then, when the time comes...

"Steal" is such a harsh word. I prefer "total ripping off of", as Ein is often familiar with when I share characters/locations/plot devices with him. I don't have an original bone in my body.

Sweet. I'm getting mentioned a lot now that I'm more dedicated. Before this, anyhow, I wrote a 480 some-page book with thirteen main characters. Yes, you read this post correctly. It's called 'The Legion of Darkness'. I'm thinking about getting it published, but I read it over a few times, and then a few more times. I classify it as 'worse than Harry Potter' when it comes to fantasy. But when it comes to blood, I classify it as 'better than resident evil'. Which one? All of them! MEH!

Moving along, I hope everything goes as planned for DAL on Sunday. I'm looking forward to starting off FRESH... and yes... with a lot more characters. Oh don't worry about numbers, when you could be worrying about letters! Seriously, it's bad for you... Knock it off...

Heh, I tried to cut down a while back, but couldn't do it.  But there's no way I could manage all at once.  I like to skip around on which story thread I'm following.  Sometimes I like writing for some characters, and sometimes others.  Meanwhile the other characters are sort of in the background.  Draven only had one post in chapter 12, and I don't think I updated Retan and Grav at all.  Kinda depends on what mood I'm in.

10 hours and 19 minutes, but DAL still ain't coming today or anytime soon...

Xorlak and me had a long hard talk and we both decided that it would be best to leave DAL on hold for another month. Although he hasn't been working on DA3 at all, he still has a lot to do. He was pretty vague, but he didn't even want me to take full control and well I agree with the extended break. I too have a lot to do, school wise and such so I'm afraid you guys are just going to have to wait longer.

Characters are welcome to form their own opinions inside the story.  Whether or not I actually honor them is another story.  (Heh...)

Yeah I think on several occasions I've had Duilin state he's stronger than Draven and Valos. Even though he wasn't at the time (Probably still with Draven, but Valos came back unchanged, Duilin would beat the stuffing out of him). Also, recently I had Vandrin say the Dark Empire is no match for him [Xorlak quote](Heh...)[/Xorlak quote]

What I was implying was the fact that he 'felt' stronger because he finally found what he had been searching for to please his master... not that his master is going to be pleased to hear of him... heh...

Another thing I forgot to mention is that when my new character Ben's god form is found, he'll equall Retan's strength, but that's for another time, post, and chapter alltogether...

Meh, that's fine. A good thing to do, in order to avoid that, is to check whatever character who are interacting with DALPedia page, if you're not 100% sure about their character.

It is recommended that you at least take a look at each of the current character pages. As stated, DAL requires a lot of reading. Smile

If you even read the rules you should know that something THAT powerful isn't allowed to be charged in such a tiny amount of time, maybe the entire chapter. And 5,000 feet in radius!? I once had Duilin summon a fireball that was 20 feet in radius and that was considered insanly huge. What does this guy summon moons?!

I know, you didn't kill 10,000 humans, with it, but it's implied and that is just TOO powerful, NOBODY can realistically survive that attack. I think you're taking Retan's sayings to literally, because but it's not like humans are worthless insects compared to everyone else. If your character can kill that many people in one post, he could probabbly destroy the entire world in three.

And as for your guy transforming into a Draken, that is also unfair, because you did that in one post while Jayce did it in two. A lot, if not all, of your characters are really cheap.

A sphere nearly one mile in diameter summoned in one post is quite ridiculous.  Please edit your post to a more reasonable number.  Like, say, 10 feet.

The largest attack in DAL was summoned by Draven in chapter 5.  His CDAA grew to some 100 feet in diameter, and it took ten posts or so.  And if anyone wants to mention past giant attacks summoned in one post, these were relatively weak because they were summoned in one post.  Which is why I reversed many in one post. (Heh...)

Simply saying your attack has the power of X doesn't make it so.  It's generally the other players who decide how strong your attacks are.  Since you are relatively new, people aren't likely going to treat you characters as very powerful.  Just play along and you'll earn more respect in time as you develop your characters.

If you're reading past chapters, that's great.  Just be careful not to follow the examples of posts that have caused rule changes and are now illegal.  (Heh...)

That is true. When I first joined (like early chapter 1) all of my characters were n00bs. Duilin got KOed in one weak hit by Draven, but now he's arguably the same strength as him Razz.

However, I usually don't have much fun with extremely powerful characters. I have way more fun with Duilin than I did with Abodahon. Middle-High power characters are usually more fun that Uber-High power characters.

Wow... I'm really not paying any attention, am I? Sorry, guys. I have some really annoying stuff going on right now. I changed the first number to 100, and the next to 25. He's 10,000 years old. He's got to be super powerful by now, right? At least that's much better... I hope...

Drop all highly-powerful and above characters NOW.
It's much more fun to start with a weak/mildly powerful character and then have them grow as the RP progresses.



Oh, right, I think I'm confused. Xorlak/DM, could you please clarify just where are all the characters in that crazy fight? From what I understand, Ven retreated into the caves, but the rest have stayed outside.

Ven did retreat to the caves, but came back out once the fight began.  The battle is now south of the caves and east of Kesnar (which is probably pretty burnt up by now).  Roughly the southern middle section of Tjed.

Yes, the entrance is to the south, and there's a couple of them.  The main exit is to the north, opening to the valley where the capital city is located.  It's really the only way to get to the capital, as it is surrounded on all sides by steep mountains.  The caves themselves are maze-like and confusing, and there's also a few exits that lead east and west, away from the capital. (There is also a similar but separate set of caves to the north of the capital that lead to northern Tjed.)

The knights suffered some casualties from the recent battles, but they're still mostly alive.  Some are still in the caves, some are cleaning up remaining lizard men just outside.

Bad news everyone.

My video card conked out a few days ago, and now I'm running in Safe Mode. I can't do much, probably do Word, MSN, and Firefox, that's all I can do. Anyway, yes. It does happen a lot, and yes, sometimes when DALpedia is down I can go to MS. Other times it's the other way around, and sometimes, both are down.

Well, in the rules (which I'm sure you've read very carefully Razz) you must first post your character here, and fill in these details.

Me and/or Xorlak will give you the thumbs up, if your character is good. The only character rejected so far was the Kool Aid man.

And what is happening so far is that an island named Tjed has just fended off an attack from the Dark Empire. Meanwhile on the main continent a group of rebels are searching around for these lost temples. And the High General Gorus and Count Vandrin are getting ready to attack each other.

You can join in anywhere, really. But most of the action is going on in Tjed.

If you need anymore info on the stuff I just taked about (ie: Tjed, Dark Empire, Gorus, Vandrin) just search them up on DALPedia.

Welcome to the game, man. Your guy should be okay, but you'll want to wait until DM or Xorlak okays it. Yeah, everybody else's word doesn't really mean anything when it comes to the new guys. So, like DM said, most of the action is going on in Tjed, so you'd probably be better off starting your guy there.

Oh, an be sure to look at the rules before you go off your hinges and write something that's impossible to complete in a day. Like, say your guy travels to the other side of the world and back. Yeah, that can't happen. Two things should take place in your post, but dialogue doesn't count, so you can go crazy with that one... I tend to do that alot when I have nothing else to write. Razz

You're getting better. But you do tend to move a bit fast, for my personal likings, but I don't think you're breaking any rules. As for being too cheesy, I'll admit a couple of your posts are. But then again, it's really nothing to be too ashamed off, I've had tons of terribly cheesy posts and dialogue (just look at chapter 1, my first post it way worse than any post made in DAL).

But yeah, just keep it up. You're doing fine. Wink

Oh yeah, and ElderScrollinIt your character is good. Post when ready, I guess.

Actually, I guess I could use a good break. Started nice and strong, but I need some time to reorganize my thoughts.

Btw, how's the game comming, DM? Have you been working on it very much, or what? What's going on with the Fall of Romme sichiachin? (misspelled on purpose). I've got some good work so far with the demo whilst using some of the default sprites, + Duilin and Draven. Oh yeah, I'm going to need much more than Duilin and Draven.

If only I could pixel as good as everyone else...

Well, I made a sprite of Iduran, well at least as close as I think I can get to him. Other than that not much. I guess for now you could use the Zhol soldiers, for Romme soldiers and the Draken's soldiers for the Dark soldiers. That's how I pictured them anyways :p

Drannic, regarding your map, Ariosis is way too big.  We've already established that the Dark Continent is one of the larger continents and we've been writing for years with it being the largest land mass available.  While the Dark Continent doesn't technically have to be the largest, we are stuck with it being the largest around because certain crazy dictators/madmen/revolutionaries in past chapters would have certainly targeted Ariosis in past chapters if it were such a major power.  (Heh...)  In short, such a massive land mass only just coming into the story now throws off previous chapters.

Your design is very good.  I would keep its shape, but make it maybe 1/2 to 1/3 sized, then make a separate map showing it up close.

Yeah. I finished oblivion while playing as one. Well, finished the main quest. Dremoras rule. They are hated (low personality! only 20 out of 100!) but are high on destruction and heavy armor!

Okay, then. Oh, by the way, make sure you actually use all of those new towns you made, because sometimes people make a bunch and/or a few pages about stuff and never actually use it in the RP. Normally it's best (in my opinion) to have it appear first, and then put up the page, (or at the same time), but it doesn't matter. It's mostly just you made a lot of towns there, and it would be a shame to see those all go to waste.

Meh, guess I'll get started on my character chapter bios.

June 12 is a pretty bad time for me. I really need to concentrate more on school, and DAL doesn't help, [xorlak](Heh...)[/xorlak].

I'm thinking more like June 23rd or something. I don't know when my exams start/end, but I think I might be able to put in some time for DAL during exams, since I only have two of them. One of my exams is a take home one, that I'll probably do ahead of time (honestly), and I don't have an exam for my drama class (I think, I didn't have one for my grade 10 class).

But I remember what it's like.  Many of the earlier chapter breaks were scheduled around my exams.  (Heh...)  June 23rd it is.

Wow. It's been a while since anybody posted anything on this forum... Well, let's just hope DAL comes back on June 23, and there wont be any delays. I haven't been able to post as much before the chapter ended, So I'll have to change that as well.

BTW; does anyone know where I can get the History scope of Gaian, besides reading the whole RP?

There is the Timeline (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Timeline). It has a few key important points in the chapters.

I was thinking of making pages of "The Battle of Romme" and the "Crimson Empire / Grey Empire / Aspyes War" not sure what to call it totally. I think maybe just the Crimson War might work.

I remember that I got a friend to join DAL once. He posted for a few weeks, then left. However, that's not the fun part.

He said that he was a hardcore bad luck charm, that every RP he was in ended a few days after he joined.

Scrollin, DAL will be up at the designated date whether it likes it or not. Trust me. Right now, at this point in time, only the collective death of DM and Xorlak can possibly hope to stop this RP. I don't see any other way.

In other news, I looked at the archives again - the top 10 longest posts, to be precise. My post is still at the top, naturally ^_^ but DS obviously dominates the charts. He has seven out of ten top posts, me and Haraldur holding the other three ones. DM, your longest post isn't even up there anymore.

And please, for the love of god - don't start the dumb competition talk again... Don't make me point out the, uh, unstandard amount of characters that... certain users have...

No delays.  No worries.

There is a bit of vagueness that needs clearing up, though.  Do we want the signups to begin on the 23rd, and the actual RP pick up a week after?  Or do we want the signups to begin a week before, and the RP itself picks up on the 23rd?

I'm leaning towards the first option.  This is because we've already dropped the 23rd as a date and people may not bother checking back until then.  Also, I'm still feeling somewhat burned out.  (Heh...)  But if people mostly want (and/or assumed) the other, then we'll do it that way.

Yeah, I'm actually enjoying the break from DAL. I've had way to much to do already, what with my new game releasing soon, and working on DAL Fall of Romme, I've gotta say (but I'm only gonna say this once) breaks are refreshing. I'll go with DM's idea.

Nobody really visits this place every day but me, it seems... No, I'm not going to beg for the chapter to start again, I'm just getting to the point where I want it to start really bad again. I've got some killer ideas for the next chapter, too. My game also turned out to be a complete failure (in which case, quite a few bugs and grammarical errors I'm not too proud of) so I have that to work on, plus my computer's hard drive was packed with too much game stuff that I had to continually switch from using my computer with my friend's. Well, let's just hope I'll be ABLE to post on the next chapter... Meh.

Right now, we are on our break. The sign-ups for next chapter will start on the 23rd. I don't know you or Xorlak's schedule, so you might have to check several times throughout the day, just in case. So yeah, June 23rd, sign ups. The actual RP tends to start the week after. So I estimate the RP will begin on June 30th or something...
