Welcome to Dark Age Legends, chapter 18 sign ups! Chapter 18 will pick up where chapter 17 left off, but due to the break in the action, this is an excellent point to jump in if you haven't already. If you haven't been following the story the entire way through, don't worry. You are not expected to read the entire RP-- just the rules below. However, if you never played in a forum RP before (particularly this one) you may want to read a random page or two in the middle to get a sense of how everything works.
Chapter 16 Prelude
Three years have passed since the Dark Emperor Retan was defeated by an inexplicable column of light from the sky. Since then, the limping nations of Gaian have banded together to prevent another such power from threatening the world again. Thus the Gaian Federation was born...
Yet despite their combined numbers, they are still no match for the same burning fire from the heavens that destroyed Retan... The Kandarinian Sovereignty has risen from the ashes, a new and stronger nation, hungry for the power the Dark Empire once wielded and more...

Rules
Dark Age Legends Rules (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Rules)
All players must read and understand the rules. Continuing Chapter 17 players can give them a brief skim, as there are no changes from last time.
As per usual, update/create your character's bio page in DALpedia, then post a link to it here. New players post here first, so we can approve your characters. New players will also need to contact me for a DALpedia account.
Plot point for discussion!
In the last sign-up topic we decided it would be best to tie up the remaining plot threads and "start fresh" sometime soon (possibly next chapter) by jumping ahead some long period of time. So let's start wrapping things up.
I'm thinking the villains simply get defeated and we jump several generations ahead to a point where things start getting interesting again, where we start with a (mostly) new set of heroes and villains. Probably 100 years or so. This is all up for discussion of course. Thoughts?
Chapter 18 begins in a week or so, depending on if people are ready to start up again.
My characters:
- Draven (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Draven)
- The Shinryuu (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Shinryuu)
- Vincent (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Vincent)
- Kelmarr (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Kelmarr)
- Melface (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Melface)
-
My Characters
- Duilin (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Duilin)
- Marshall (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Marshall)
- Rink (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Rink)
- Nex (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Nex)
- Valos (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Valos)
- Sienna (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Sienna)
- Vandrin (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Vandrin)
But yeah, I agree. We'll just try and get the villains defeated. And maybe the Gaian Federation could then become the major world power within the 100 years.
But who says they'll have to stay 100% good?

Characters returning this chapter:
- Kronos (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Kronos)
- Ein (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Ein)
- Gwen (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Gwen)
My input on the break discussion:
I've been thinking about something like this for a long time now. Me and DM have already planned something which will take effect during this (upcoming) chapter, and depending on how much we like the idea, we'll use it in the chapter taking place after the long break. It is something that will be done by Kronos once the latter is desperate - and what's a better source of desperation than waking up 100 years later in a box buried six feet under, finding absolutely nothing of your former kingdom intact?
Having the control of the main villain, I'll be glad to allow you guys to defeat him - as long as you don't pull a deus ex machina... I.e. make an earnest effort to get rid of Kronos, don't just do something like steal his Hammer and destroy the Gros Morne Fortress. I mean, that can be a part of his defeat, but if you're just going to do that (in one post) and say, "I win", naturally I'll be tempted to say "No you don't" and spawn another Hammer (in one post, obviously), and fire a blast so powerful that it will wipe out the entire planet. In other words, I guess it's just a reiteration of the no one-liners rule... kind of.
I've also had the idea of ... yet another race (don't hate me, please) which I really wanted to try, but the history of the appearance of which could only be explained through a 100-year break. So in short, I'm totally up for it, and I'll have Kronos be brought down by the end of this chapter.

I don't think Jenia will be active this chapter but if she will I may add Shuichi. But as thing look right now I think I'll only need:
- Chaud (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Chaud)
- Frederic (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Frederic)
- Repins (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Repins)
- Puco (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Puco)
About he time skip: I support.
The most important thing for me about the time skip is: The minimizing of the scale. Not huge countries fighting each other, but a nice team of hero's going on a quest. That way we'll have more fun =D
I still think that the future should be smaller scaled due something terrible. The idea that instead of countries there villages and castles that work on their own.
Also have you guys noticed that if you read "Repins Tnelis" backwards...
-
Upon looking at the 'long pages' on DALPedia, Chapter 17 was the shortest chapter. Well, actually no, it was longer than Post Chapter 10!
-
Mikado: Jenia is a she?
Everyone else: Forgot I took this picture, but here it is... I don't know if anyone has any interest, I thought I'd keep it for the sake of memory.

It's not like gender matters over the internet, so I guess I find the acronym Jenia female alike, so I when I type quickly...
Well yea xD
-

Awesome!

Hmmm, interesting. I kind of like both ideas. We could have some sort of huge disaster near the middle of the chapter that destroys a good chunk of civilization, then have the good guys win at the end. Thoughts?
-
Jenia is not an acronym. It's a pseudonym (which in this case it isn't).
About the disaster, though, I kind of thought that it would be more fun to have an epic all-out battle - but a cataclysm is fine, too.
-
Let me tell you what would be cool:
Step 423: All out battle.
Step 424: Cataclysm.
Step 425: All out battle in cataclysm.
I was thinking that if a country revolution would start and military would try to hold it down it would be cool.
Heh, what's also awesome, I'm in that picture ;D. Now I guess I can't leave DAL anymore, eh?
-
Start the RP already...
Nobody else seems to be wanting to sign up
-
Hey all life has been crazy
My characters are:
Coriko
Druid
Baird
Um, D. Ein are we still going to do that plan we talked about?
-
Chapter will be starting late Saturday or early Sunday, depending on how much other stuff I can squeeze out of. (Heh...)
-
Oh, sorry I'm late. I haven't checked the site in a while.
Character:
Akran (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Akran)
Yet to be characters:
Elisha
Kraaz
Martin
I'll get around to actually making them characters one day. Oh, yeah, and Elisha is actually just a journal who I'll post with sparingly. I'm not committed enough to make her a full first person character like Kronos.
-
We're running low on people. Half the folks that signed up don't want to post for one reason or another, and there are no new guys at the moment. Somebody needs to let a friend or two know about this.
-
Yeah. What the hell? It's only been me, Ein and Xor Guy posting?
-
We should seriously get some fresh meat for DAL. I've gotten... 3 or so people into it, though none of them are here anymore (the last being Ted Der). Does anyone know anyone else who might be interested in joining?
-
Hey, I'm still here... just very uninspired. There's a difference. My 100th post will be a proper post, I swear. I just need to find somethings out first (and finish reading all of your posts).
P.S. I think I can convince somebody I know to join. I mean if they're interested in D&D then they have to be at least a little interested in this right?
P.P.S. Ein, I like how you so subtly put that we need more people on Dal. Smile
-
I'll be gone from Saturday on till Tuesday.
-
Why do you guys put so many enters in your posts?
-
I dunno. Bad habit? Makes it easier to read? Or maybe just 'cause?
-
Sorry, I don't think I can post on weekends now, either. My insane schedule, then, only allows for posting anywhere from 5:30 to 9:00 PM on weekdays.... Sad
-
Great. That's just perfect... Sad
-
Ooops!
Perhaps I picked a bad time to come in and mention that I'll be out of town from the 12th to the 19th and unable to post... (Heh...)
-
Okay guess this chapter will be slowed down a little then. Whatever. We've dealt with that before.
-
Yeah, slowing down is not stopping, anyway. But now - my lunch hour - time to post Cool
-
Hey guys, sorry I haven't been on in ages, I've just been up to my knees in crap to do. I've been in the Canadian wilderness with my family (yup, we've got a place up there) with no internet, or for that matter, contact with the outside world. Well, now that I'm back, I'm not sure if I should just start over with some new characters or what. I've sorta lost my place after this long-ass time period of my absence...
Again, my appologies for forgetting to post that I was leaving for a bit... Sad
-
Welcome back, Drannic! The story's been extremely simplistic this past chapter. (Draven got bored and attacked Helternia with elemental soldiers. Good guys said "oh no!" and rushed to defend it. Kandarinians got bored and jumped in just for the heck of it.) So you should be able to jump in without any trouble at all. As has been mentioned before, a "fresh start" is coming in a chapter or two, depending on how long it takes to tie up loose threads. So you may want to wait to introduce any new characters until then.
-
So that's basically the jist of it? Alright, I'll just throw in some old characters when I remember their names...
Crap... this might take a bit...
-
Okay I read your post Drannic. Um, isn't it Bjendell who's the angel guy? Aaron's a Werewolf.
You could of at least checked DALPedia. Razz
-
crap... I forgot about that...
That sucks, I can't remember my own guys. I feel horrible... Sad
-
I'm off for 8 days or so... someone punch Draven really hard so he flies over the houses and into the water or something until I get back... (Heh...)
-
Done.
You will be greatly missed for the 8 days Xorlak. Razz
-
Er... just for refference, who're the bad guys?
-
The Kandarinians and Draven's guys
-
Thought I should note that I'm gonna be in Toronto during the 18th, 19th and 20th so the chances of me posting during those times are slim.
-
Xorlak, it's the 20th, post now, damnit
-
Well geez. Just because I'm gone for a week doesn't mean everything needs to come to a grinding halt. (Heh...)
-
I was away for a few days, and feeling lazy the rest. That's my excuse. Take it or leave it.
-
This forum looks pretty dead... I could try to convince ESI to come back; might kick things back up again, just a little. Who knows, maybe I can get other people on as well. Maybe I should start a side story, start up some more forum activity. Or I could start working on the DAL: Fall of Romme game again... Ah, good times.
Oh, I forgot to mention. DM, my e-mail crapped out on me, as well as my tk3 stuff. Mind sending me the tilesets again? Totally up to you if you wanna keep goin'. Hell, I have nothing better to do; might as well, you know?
-
Sure, I was wondering if you were still wanting to do that. Yeah, I'll send them to you ASAP. Wink
-
I wish Trent and Zeros' came back
-
Send away then, DM. My e-mail is drannic_lord01@yahoo.com
Easy to remember, right? Also, I've been working on music for the game. I might e-mail the wav files to you later so you can give them a listen.
-
Xorlak, it's the 20th, post now, damnit
Ein, it's been 11 days. Post now, blast it!
-
Okay, I sent you the e-mail Drannic. Let me know if it sent okay.
-
My apologies. Job...

Helternia, Rivertown
"Wow, you really are a fool. Duilin, let's take this whelp down!" With a wrenching motion of his neck and a snarl, Aaron leapt back into the air at a tremendous rate, but alas, wasn't high enough. His blade, however, just reached Draven's lower torso and he slashed horizontally after him.
"Blast! Jacobie, John, Marrik, hold them off! I'm getting closer..." They did as the angelic warrior told and used their main elements against elementals of opposite elements, hoping to use their elemental weakness to their advantage. Little did they know that they actually HAD to do so...
(House Shield at 35%)
Uh, Xorlak? You gonna respond to my attack?
-
Ooops... Everyone attacks Draven at once syndrome strikes again! Edited the post.
-
MY TROUBLES ARE FINALLY OVER~!
Now as soon as someone sums up all I missed for me I can actually get to work.
I do believe became addicted to DnDing.
-
Duilin, Valos and his squad were about to leave Helternia to attack Nex's fortress but suddenly Draven and his elemental warriors attacks. In the midst of the battle the Kandarin's join the fray. I think the elementals and the zombies are dead, but Draven and Kronos remain. Duilin is rather annoyed and is trying to get them away.

I think I missed quite a bit more than two lines, considering I've been gone two chapters.
-
Well, last chapter nothing happened. Seriously.
-
Who am I to destroy valuable real estate?
You seem to always come up with an epic pun with Kronos, even in the most misty of situations that he could get himself in (and often does).
Well, last chapter nothing happened. Seriously.
Really? Well that means I didn't miss much when I was away, did I? That's sad, though... DAL needs some more insipration to get some epic storylines going again, like in post chapter 10.

Very Happy
Ugh... a thunderstorm took out my internet and my phone. Shucks.

- Helternia, Rivertown -
No response came from the black orb. Instead, it collapsed.
With the force of an avalanche, the black sphere collapsed to the size of a grain of dust. Winds gailed around as air sucked into the void, followed by stones and boulders of debris. A tree uprooted and twisted in the air, before squeezing into the tiny space. The billowing winds grew and grew. Hungrily, the black hole drank all matter it could grasp...
Ok, did that JUST happen, or did I miss something? I'm a little confused right about now...

Six ripping noises later, Draven was surrounded completely by a black orb, which was actually a series of portals put closely together. I lowered myself back down on the ground, and approached the sphere of blackness. If this fails, he might as well burn me down, too.
-"Say, Draven," I said, chuckling. "Must be a pretty sight in there, eh? Probably making you a little queasy at the stomach right about now."
Then again, who wouldn't fell queasy with six portals opened inside of him? What Draven was witnessing at the moment were projections - no, not projections - what Draven was seeing were his own organs, beating, throbbing and pulsing inside his body, visible through the exit portals all around him.
-"Come on," I said, but almost without me noticing, my voice filled with victorious rage. "Come ON, DRAVEN! DO IT! USE YOUR CUTE LITTLE FIRE BLAST NOW AND BURN YOURSELF FROM INSIDE!!!
-
Okay, makes a bit more sense now once I re-read it.
Meh, sometimes I have to go back and re-read things... a lot...
-
Please let me voice a few concerns I have.
First of all, Kronos' death. Why is it that both Duilin and Doriana have this strong guttural feeling that Kronos is not fully dead? They saw him turn to dust, and considering that he is the first Lich in DAL (but, as I've mentioned through NPCs, there used to be another one a long time ago - who permanently died after being killed), how do they know that he isn't dead? "Aura detection" is a thing of the past, so there is absolutely no way they can possibly know that Kronos can't be killed through normal means. Empirical evidence states that when something turns to dust, it usually stays that way, and nobody on the battlefield saw Kronos rise from his ashes and return to his former glory.
Second, Xorlak, by the size of your post, I know that you were probably in a rush, but could you please let me know if the portal attack was too cheap for you to divert it like that? I know I probably should've consulted you over a PM before using something like that, but at the moment, it didn't seem like that big of a deal. It doesn't matter, I had two storylines planned in either direction - if Kronos succeeded in capturing Draven or if he failed. Still, it would be nice if you let me know if you found a major problem with that action. Thanks.
-
I did not state in my post that Duilin knows Kronos is still alive, he simply has a feeling the danger hasn't passed yet.
-
No problem with it at all, Ein. It just gave me an awesome idea, which I'm in the process of acting on.
Draven stores a tremendous amount of energy, which flows outward from him when he is covered in flame. Opening portals that lead inside his body and surrounding him with them (effectively reversing the flow) is going to have some very... interesting effects. (Heh...)
-
Hmm... well, I don't know. Now that you put it like that, she really shouldn't know what's going on, huh. Well, at the time, I guess I thought of her as some sort of 'smart-ass', or rather "B-A" paladin warrior woman that knows a lot about her field. When you mention that you, besides one other, were the only Lich in existance (of which I didn't know), she really shouldn't even know that much about a lich yet... Should I go back and edit the post?
-
Nah, it's fine. Just don't have all of your guys suspect Kronos to be alive.
-
...Reality is being mean to me (my router died, has to be replaced).
I think I'll return next chapter.
-
RL never was a nice person... or thing rather. Come to think of it, my router died a couple weeks ago. Strange...
-
Well, it seems activities on the forum are moving at a slow but steady pace. Hopefully we'll get more people to join up every once in a blue moon, but more importantly, I was wondering how we were going to end the chapter. I went back and read a few posts; so it seems that there's gonna be a full 100-year jump from the chapters or something like that to start everything over, or something like that?
-
The "fresh start" will be in a couple chapters, likely will happen Chapter 20 or 21. We have enough planned to last us a couple chapters anyways.
-
Oh Drannic, in case you're not sure, I'm waiting for you to rush your guys in and start a distraction and such.
-
Sorry, went away for two days or so. Anywho, back now. I'll post.
-
Dear god, I'm back.
-
Welcome back.
DM, you forgot to post Nex's reply to Xorlak's post (with Vincent).
-
Sorry, it was late at night.
-
Idea for the fresh start:
I really think that Alchemy should be more structured than the mess that we have now. I don't mean making an entire catalogue of terms and random herbs and flowers that will all have a specific good effect and bad effect (although I really like that idea), but rather something that the anime Full Metal Alchemist had going for it. Now, I don't mean that as in charting freaky symbols on the ground to create a Haraldur-like array of effects (that's Ein's job); in fact, the idea I like from FMA is not related to its version of Alchemy at all. It is that FMA has a set of rules for its Alchemy, and a clear idea of what people can and can't do with it that has never been established in DAL.
Anyway, as for my suggestion: there should be no potion that lasts "infinitely". The length of a potion's duration is dependent on the skill of the person making it, but the maximum duration for a potion should be about an hour. Potions that last a ridiculously long period of time (or infinitely) should be EXTREMELY rare, with perhaps a powerful but unsophisticated effect (like granting super strength, as opposed to granting increased agility, eyesight, and glowing fingernails when in the proximity of a black-crested Draken at night while wearing a backpack). In fact, I think those kinds of long-lasting, powerful potions shouldn't be called potions at all (maybe "tonics"?) and their main source should be finding them in long-forgotten dungeons, rather than being made by a "modern" Alchemist.
Me and DM have entertained the idea of having potions (the short lasting ones, not the tonics) have both a good effect and an adverse effect; which could lead to some really funny results (some of the more prominent ideas were granting invisibility alongside creating gaseous bubbles inside one's stomach, leading to extreme fits of flatulence; or spawning wings on the user, while simultaneously manifesting a great fear of heights). You could also drink several potions to balance the good and the bad, and so on, and so on.
In fact, when this came up in conversation with DM, we were thinking of creating a character that could make such potions. The reason I never went ahead with the idea of one character is that while, say, magic can be as diverse as possible, Alchemy should be kept consistent. If one character makes short lasting potions with adverse effects while another makes nothing but ridiculously powerful, perfect in all respects, infinite-duration potions, then there's a clear lack of balance (and reason as to why one can do it and another can't).
The reason for this sudden change in the DAL world could be explained by the idea that prior to the fresh start, all potions used a specific herb to give them longevity. This herb is now either extinct or extremely rare due to overharvesting; the potions remaining from before the break become "tonics", while everyone else is forced to perform Alchemy in the way described, as the power-herb is no longer available.
I think that this would make Alchemy a much more desirable trait to have. Alchemist characters would no longer exist to brew one potion that would last them a lifetime - instead, if you want to maintain some sort of an effect, you'd constantly have to drink potions.
What do you guys think?
-
Sounds great. I like it.
But yeah, those were some fun conversations we had. You can't forget the potion that grants infinite strength but with the side effect of paralysis.
-
It is that FMA has a set of rules for its Alchemy, and a clear idea of what people can and can't do with it that has never been established in DAL.
Heh... for the most part, what you can and cannot do has never been established with most everything in DAL... ;)
But I love the potions idea. Potions have been a pretty minor part of alchemy in DAL thus far, however. But I do agree it has been poorly thought out. Vincent was merely an on-a-whim character made to be a cross between the alchemists from FMA (touch things and they change into whatever) and Dr. Science (crazy guns and mad science weaponry). I think I've only had him concoct one "potion", and that was a convoluted comic-book-style return from the dead type deal. (Heh...) There was another alchemist a while back too if I remember correctly who was more FMA based.
But this is a great start on creating a richer, more interesting world. I'm definitely for imposing more limits on abilities. On the other hand, we don't want so many rules that a new player's eyes glaze over before joining. I've been trying to piece together a character or two for when we get to the "fresh start" chapter with interesting strengths and weaknesses, as most of mine have been too far on one side or the other. ;)
-
Though there are certain potions one would want to have a constant effect, like, say a healing potion or a mana potion? Just to refresh their health and such, you'd want those to be infinite, right? But on the other hand, I do agree with what you guys are saying. And it would be awsome if somebody put up a page on the DAL Pedia and added all ingredients that have effects to do this and that and what not. That would take time and effort, but make the game far more bad-ass when it comes to the art of brewing potions.
-
But that would kill the whole point. The point is that this time, instead of just grabbing 5 potions with each one effect, if you're REALLY planning to ruin someone's day, you need to come prepared with all the items you need, and however many potions you'd think would be enough. If you run out of potions - well, tough, you're either knocked out or you run like hell. The idea was to constrain the ability just enough for it to be fun and not be a god mode cheat (sorry, degreelessness mode).
...Factory of Dark Science.
What's the most epic thing ever written? Now, what's that multiplied by two? Very Happy
Oh, and Drannic, to reply to your comment - it's perfectly fine and not god-modding at all, I was just wondering where that came from. I thought assassins used all sort of "dark" magic, you know? But a "light" magic assassin would be fun to try Smile I simply didn't know how Doriana used Holy Magic, that's all. Your comment explains it.
But umm... on a slightly less fun note... Sorry, my post might've not been clear, but Ein already took down the wall.
He applied the glowing stone to the largest brick in the wall that was close to him. The stone immediately fell to the ground, almost hurting Ein's hand in the process. Unaffected, Ein proceeded to wrap his arms around the brick... and pulled it out. Moreover, he even balanced the large brick on one finger, as the damaged walls behind him finally gave in due to the disappearance of a major part of the foundation. The size of the brick easily suggested that it was at least 10 tonnes in weight, yet Ein was holding it like it was a feather.
-"Hehe, it's a weight transfer glyph," Ein giggled victoriously. "Now that tiny little rock there is as heavy as this brick used to be. Conversely, the brick became as light as a pebble."
Tossing the hulking brick aside, Ein made his way through the defeated walls.
...
Several clicks later, he made his way back out as fast as he could, chased by buzzing spears.
-"Crap..."
Naturally, the only way he could pull out the brick was because Jacobie softened up the wall (quite severely, mind you) beforehand. However, what Jacobie is doing right now seems kind of redundant - he's beating an already crumbled wall to powder.
.........
OK, looks like I'll have to re-edit this post again.
"More lightning, guys, and fast! I see Vanguards... lots of Vanguards..." John and Marrick complied by throwing more bolts of lightning from the sky as it began to pour rain. Each drop was nearly 1.5 centimeters in diameter, which was quite a bit of rain per drop... but the Drannivolka were getting exhausted, and fast. They still made more accurate blasts of lightning, however, according to Jacobie's will. Each bolt managed to either hit a guard, or come fairly close to one as it discharged down to the earth. Some even discharged up and zapped a guard from the ground up to the air.
First of all, unless you're casting something other than a thunderstorm, please specify that. Thunderstorms will not hit guards if there are tall buildings around, and I've pointed it out several times that lightnings were hitting the tips of the guard towers. Making the storm more intense is fine - heck, if you edited your posts and said it was some kind of "chaos thunderstorm" that was attracted to flesh rather than quick ways to get to the ground (as are normal thunderstorms), that's fine too. But on that note, keep in mind that if lightnings will hit Kainengrad's soldiers, they're not going to discriminate between guards and your characters. If your Drannivolkans are so 1337 skilled that they can direct lightnings - hell, that's perfectly fine, too! But a) they have no way to see exactly WHAT they're firing at (as I understand it, they're outside with Ein and Jacobie), so the lightnings should still be able to hit Doriana & Co, and b) if Doriana & Co have some sort of "homing beacons" that tell your cats not to aim lightnings at them - well, that was never explained. I could've been a jerk and just said that one of your lightnings struck the group and threw all of them into the air and fried their invisibility so they got shot down by an iron-and-obsidian hailstorm of spears launched from the weapons of very, very angry soldiers without a single chance to defend themselves because they're flying several feet into the air and are dazed by a 20-thousand bolt of pure energy hitting right in the middle of their company, but I know that neither you, DM, nor Xorlak would like that (and as you know, things that Xorlak doesn't like tend to mysteriously disappear from their beds at night... I don't want the honour of having my post edited Razz ).
I was thinking originally that the thunderstorm was there to lower morale and to make things hard to see due to the darkness, but if you're going to use it as an offensive spell.... well, it would need a little more work.
Second, you mentioned rain - well, if you read the past few posts, I've also mentioned that it was raining for quite a while now. The rain is the reason why Doriana & Co were sighted by Kainengrad soldiers in the first place, and also the reason why the city did not erupt in flames after so many lightnings hit its buildings. And if you think about it, 1 and a half centimetres is... well, a lot. Water doesn't tend to fall in drops that big, physics don't allow it. This is kind of coming back to the whole thunderstorm-is-a-spell idea - if you said it wasn't a normal thunderstorm, you could have water drops 4 miles in diameter (well, obviously i'm exaggerating, but you get the point), but you never really mentioned that it was anything but a run-of-the-mill thunderstorm, and that's what I took it as. I've also said that the lightnings themselves did very little damage to the buildings - seeing as it's raining and all, I don't see how they would. But if you say that the thunderstorm is actually thunderstorm on steroids which are being pumped into it by the Drannivolkans, I'll be much more fair and have a few towers here and there fall to the electrical blasts.

What, are you just bored?
...
*Editing post*
-
Nah, just a jerk.
-
Appologies, haven't been on in a bit. I went up north to apply for a collage in Wisconsin. Blasted Wisconsin... anywho, I'll get straight to posting in a moment.
-
It's fine.
I'm sorry but I'm not totally in the mood to post right now. Got some shit goin' on.
-
Also sorry from my side, I'm kind of not in the mood - but I feel the mood returning, and by this weekend, I should be fully mooded up to make a nice post.
-
By now I think Ein is too busy playing Spore to make time to post. Which I don't blame him, because I'd forget to post too if I had that game. I played it at his place, whoa it was fun.
Hey you know what's an awesome game? Spore.
-
BLAST.
Every attempt to get Vincent to get involved in this battle has been THWARTED since the very first step he set foot in Kaiengrad. Now I'm actually going to have to think of a plot to go with my posts! *grumbles*
Spore? That's not another one of those boring post apocalyptic first person shooters, is it? (Heh...)
-
You really do live under a rock do you?
No, Spore isn't one of those games. It's just awesome, you like start off as a little bacteria and evolve step by step into like a space empire. You get to design your creature and everything.
-
I don't find post-apocalyptic shooters boring (like S. T. A. L. K. E. R.), unless they actually are boring. /obvious
Spore is not a shooter, it's impossible to describe it concisely, look it up on Wikipedia.
Anyway, I've taken a long enough break now. I'll go post.
-
Crikey, three days later, and still no post.... I have to finish this chapter!! >:-(
-
D.Ein is busy doing some work tonight and tomorrow. But he'll be free soon and be able to post soon, so don't worry he didn't die or anything.
-
Hey, I'm gonna be hella-busy for the next couple of months, so please bear with me if I'm not posting as much... or rather at all. When I find time, I'll post. Really sorry to tell you this late into it, but better late than never, eh?
Anywho, I should be back up to super post speed around... late October, early November, around that range. I just moved out of my dad's place and am currently working on the house, as well as maintaining a job to support a future wife and my little cousin, who has been tagging along with me since I got the house. Her folks died not too long ago, so I took her in.
Again, sorry for the very long delay in mentioning this, but as I said before, better late than never, right?
-
Would it be fine to conveniently incapacitate your characters while you aren't active?
-
We're going to be switching servers in a bit so lets see if we can wrap this chapter up before then. Does two weeks from now sound good?
-
Yeah, sounds good. Hmm, I forgot, do I need to post? I remember posting...
-
FINALLY :O My work is done and I can go post now
-
DALpedia will be down for a bit since I moved my site to the new server and it's kinda a pain to get working again. Probably will have it back up in a week or so.
-
DALpedia is back up! (http://http://darkagegames.net/dalpedia/)
I had to change the way it processes links due to some technicalities the new server doesn't support. (darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php/Draven becomes darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php?title=Draven), so any old links posted in the forums, etc. won't work. Everything else should be up and running, so let me know if you have any trouble.
I'm thinking we keep the break going for a while longer, since things have slowed down. Maybe a month or so until people feel like posting again. Any thoughts?
-
I agree. Also, Xorlak, can you yourself see to find interested people to come post in DAL? I think I've exhausted my list of anyone who might feel up for it.
I was looking in Google for forum RPGs, and found quite a few - and only one so far was bigger than DAL. Very Happy
-
Yeah I agree, a longer break might be good idea. Get some time to rest. Smile
-
After a rather unorthodox discussion with D. Ein, and after having my ass verbally beaten by him time and again by him most likely not even breaking a sweat, I'm back. Ein, one note, I appologise for being stupid earlier. So... I'd actually like to start from scratch. When's the next chapter comin up, or do we know this for certain yet?
-
Probably December-ish, depending on how people feel. This chapter will probably be the last in this time period. The one after will be the "fresh start". That'd be the time to see if we can recruit new blood.
-
Yay. I'm back. And in the last chapter, I wish to use Czernn. So is there a place somewhere where he can be of use?
-
Oh totally, the Kandies are the major villian right now, so you have him in the action pretty quickly. One of the outposts is being attacked by the Feds actually.
-
Hello, gentlemen. How are you doing? I forgot my password, and the board admin e-mail is fake. So I had to make a new login. And if you didn't figure it out by now? It's Trent.
It seems like you guys have been putting off Chapter 18 for a while due to lack of attendance. If you guys really need it, I'll enter one, and only one character. I've been playing an RPG called Exalted with some guys every Saturday night (on hiatus right now, though), and I think I can adapt my character, William Soleil, to DAL. If anyone's familiar with Exalted, he's a Solar Exalt. So he shouldn't be too far behind the powers of everyone else. As for my other characters? Forget it. Not now.
If you really need me, I can give it a shot. What say you?
-
Hmmm... probably should set the admin email to mine... (Heh...)
Would be awesome to have you back, Trent. You've always brought good stuff to the RP in the past. The RP would definitely improve with you playing.
Honestly folks, I think it may be time to wrap this thing up with one final chapter. It seems like all of us have moved on to one new thing or another. I've pretty much completed all my story arcs, and my recent stuff has been pretty lame since I've run out of ideas. (Blast, need to post something quick! I know, I'll revive this dead guy! (Again!))
I know we've talked about rebooting the setting after the next chapter, but honestly I'd rather see the story have a proper ending in chapter 19, then have it get to, say 20 or 21 and then just fizzle out open-ended.
Thoughts?
-
Thanks for resetting my stuff, Xorlak. Smile
I'll sign up on DALPedia sometime today.
As for an ending, it's not a bad idea. Maybe sometime after this RP ends, we could do another one with a totally different setting and cast.
I've been out of the loop for a while, so I don't really know how rehashed everything is.
-
Hmm, well perhaps just a new RP would be just as good actually.
But yeah, it's awesome to see you've chosen to return Trent! Very Happy
-
I would be vehemently against the idea of stopping DAL, but I'm sure that if Xorlak has his mind made, nothing can change that. Besides, the RP would die anyway were Xorlak to leave.
EDIT: On the other hand, a *new* RP... Well, if Xorlak is in it, then sure, but otherwise, it would be easier to simply find an existing one, seeing as we don't get many visitors anyway.
-
First version:
William Soleil (http://http://www.darkagegames.net/dalpedia/index.php?title=William_Soleil)
Anything I need to change?
-
Be cool and use the info box like everyone else. Very Happy
-
The faster the new RP will come around the more happy I'll be Smile
I guess we'll get a new wiki page then? ^__^
-
Hmm, well I am thinking we could just stick with the 100 years later thing. Somebody other than Xorlak can think of a good main villain if Xorlak needs a break.
-
Cool
-
He he he... well if you guys really want to continue I don't think I could shut down the thing in good conscious. (Heh...) We will see how chapter 19 plays out and work from there.
Trent: Looks good!
Hmmmm... guess it's about time to get the sign ups ready. I'll open things up for 19 sometime this weekend.
