Title: (no subject)
Post by: Haraldur on January 17, 2004, 03:05:19 PM
It seems that the RPG Toolkit, the TK community, the Mystic Software community and other TK related communities are slowly dying and fading away into nothingness. Many oldbies have left, are leaving or are about to leave. Many old sites have fallen away or have stopped being updated. Everyone seems to have left. I was looking through the old topics on the general discussion forum and half the people there I do not even know.

I believe the TK is in a crisis. Why is this? What, if anything, can be done about it?

That is reassuring, but nothing seems to be happening.

Hey, it happens. TK3 is still a bit unstable...as soon as it picks up, the TK and the communtiy will flourish again.

How do you know? How do you know that most of the people who left have not left permanently. It will probably take a huge amount of time before there is a stable TK3, there might never be, at this rate there might be noone left before that happens. There would probably have to be a very major new version to catch attention, like 3D or some other very noticeable change.

How many oldbies are there left?

Xorlak, Spyder (just returned from his "no internet" problem), Rueben (he may be too busy to show up on the forums and stuff, but he still uses the TK and he still cares' bout the community...just college is givin' him hell), and a few others are still here...

Oh, and I may not be considered an Oldbie, but I'm still here, and I'll always be here unless the TK suddenly stops working.

I know I've threatened to leave a few times...hell, I've actually taken a few breaks from it, but I know damn well that I"m staying. SPHERE and RM2k3 will never take me away!

Well, some of them have become too busy to use the TK. It happens! Some of them will probably return! These ppl have lives other than the TK.

How many have explicitly said they were leaving, and how many were there in the first place?

Another thing, this is off topic, but who are trigunasha and Zerzic?
Title: (no subject)
Post by: Mark of the Dragon on January 17, 2004, 05:13:17 PM
Trigunasha and Zerzic were two spammers that everybody hates. TGASHA caused a few fights on Sophia's boards because of his spamming (and constant flaming), and Zerzic just spammed the forums to up his post count.

Post by: Haraldur on January 17, 2004, 05:14:12 PM
Assholes then, why did they leave?
Title: (no subject)
Post by: Mark of the Dragon on January 17, 2004, 05:32:26 PM
Zerzic didn't want to reup his count after the forum crash over the summer, and Trigunasha was sick of being flamed by Tosoto and I in the name of revenge.

Post by: Haraldur on January 17, 2004, 05:34:15 PM
Was there a post saying that he was leaving? Trigunasha that is. I know there is not for Zerzic because I read the topic Zerzic and he has only one post.

He made no announcement, but common sense says that he left.

To say the program itself is dying is ridiculous. The toolkit certainly isn't getting any "worse", just the program isn't being updated as frequently. The fact is it has just as much potential as when it was in its "pinnacle" two or so years ago.

However, people seem to be disheartened by the lack of meaningful updates to the program. Many give up and quit because they don't think the Toolkit is going to get any better. Is the community "dying"? Perhaps. But the Toolkit is just as good as it ever was. I think people need to worry about their games more than the community.

To tell you the truth, I'm not entirely sure my next project will be with the Toolkit or not. But I'm certainly not going anywhere. I have two full games out that need to be maintained. If rpgtoolkit.com or even Mystic Software ever goes down, I'll still be here!  (Going to try to snatch the darkage.com domain when it expires next month...)

Heh. If "markofthedragon.com" ever becomes available again, i'll take it Smile

Right now it's being used for a movie that has never so much as been mentioned elsewhere.

Not quite sure if I count as an oldbie, but I'm still here.

'Course, I've been using the TK for years and haven't quite managed to create anything... Perhaps now is the tim eto contribute, not in a game, but to the CVS?

After all, if we would just band together and work on the TK, then we probably WOULD have a stable version out right now.  People leaving that could contribute doesn't help that much.

Maybe if we could just get off our arses, then the Community will be revived.

Not like that will ever happen Razz

Hmmm. Everything passes out, it is natural flow of time, just like dinosaurs oblivionated (funny word, isn't it?), so will tk... Or maybe not.

It all depends whenever people will use it or not, and whenever cbm cmb or mbc or how he is called will put up new patches, updates and such.

As for me... Everything has the end in my life.

I wasa thinking I might make my own version, but I know damn all of programming. What language does it use? If I know I can learn it and then make my own version. And if I am confident I might try giving it an optional 3D engine, If I am skilled enough... well, If I will be skilled enough...

I'm still here also, although the big hit in the dying RPG Toolkit Community is that the developers seem to be disappearing, the people who early on in the toolkit created awesome RPG Codes like battles systems, etc, who naturally evolved into plugin developers later on, and who would have been the ones to carry on the TK3 Open source... these such people were MrG, Triuken, Leuf, Wintermoon, maybe even CBM, and lots others who have disappeared or aren't developing anything for the TK anymore

In essence the TK still can grow, but who will nurture it's growth, no one out there is either capable of it, or is willing...

Well, I am trying to create my own games, and I am doing reviews in hope that it will make people more interested on other peoples game and want to create good games themselves to get the legendary 10/10.

there is one who can reunite them, one who who can bring them back to the Tk.....
"He turned from that path a long time ago, he has chosen exile..." says matt72186.

does anyone reconize this from a movie?  Laughing

btw, the one is xorlak, he will bring us back to the way we were!

It would be best if all the oldbies encouraged development. I reckon the whole toolkit community is tribal, with elders holding high postions and respect.
