OK, this is the official Yggdrasil: Miðgarð topic. In the future all information about the game will be here. For now though, a mocked up board displaying some of my grass tiles:

I would appreciate any comments.

Excellent.
-
Thankyou. I like praise. Very Happy Due to me not being able to draw, I never imagined I would be OK at pixel and digital art.
Cesque, whenever I go to my moderating options and try to pin something it say I am not allowed to do that. I select a topic and say to pin but it will not allow me. Is there a way around that or will I have to get Xorlak or Spyder to see to it?
-
Looks good. You have bit of what they call "gridding" though (you can see some vertical lines that separate the tiles). Try changing some pixels on the far right and left side of the tile to get rid of that. It can be hard to get rid of that completely, though.
(Okay, try pinning it now.)
-
Thankyou Xorlak.
I know I have gridding, but most of it is somewhere in the middle of the tile, and I find it very difficult to get rid of it. However, due to the fact I have more than 1 tile, I can use this to create the impression of ditches and ridges etc.
I will try pinning it, thankyou.
-
It doesn't look that bad... Seen worse "gridding" effects. At least grass is prettier and more "alive" than in my game...
-
They were in one of your "old" screenshots, so does that imply that there will be a new grass tile?
-
i thought your screen shot of you game were excelent, although, yes, haraldurs grass it a lot more alive than most that ive seen, thats good! just mess around with it to get the grid gone and it will be a 10/10!!!
-
Thankyou DarkElite. I will work on that on Saturday.
-
Hmm, I have tons of things to change, including the grass... But propably, not until demo cames out.
-
Demo? When?
-
2041, didn't I tell you?
Hmm, no, really, I'll have to finish up BS work, add some basics of menu system and finish off the locations...
-
Ah, so 2007?
-
Don't be THAT optimistic... 2014, minimum.
-
Ah, how long will it be then? DA2 took 2 1/2 years and is about 25 hours long, so your should be about 100 hours long...
-
Why the hell gamers keep measuring games in HOURS?! It's idiotic.
You can beat game in 25 hours, but if you'll play hard you can beat it in 15 hours, to reveal all secrets you'll need 80 hours etc... I dunno how much time my game will take.
If you think the longer the game is, the better, I can always put up #delay(2000) at start of each battle.
-
The time in hours is just an indication about how big the game is and how detailed. If you take 4 times longer than Xorlak to make a game then that game should be about four times DA2's size.
-
Hmm, let's say from the start I'll make an ability for player to beat the boss, which shall be pretty easy - so the game will take half an hour, for example... But I'll put up world which is as large as Earth itself in it Laughing This won't be a short game.
I haven't played full Dark Age, but, from what I see, game will have about 50 world locations, 15 different characters to play and different ways of beating game (not just 1 ending). But that's theory. In practice, I've not yet finished even 1 board location. Laughing
-
If the theory happens, then it will definitely be longer than DA2.
-
yeah, but i dont want to have to wait Very Happy !
-

Judging by how long I take to make a game isn't a good measurement, since not everyone works in as a feverishly obsessive pace as I do (heh...)
-
heh, thats still not as much as me (though i have slowed down with the creation of rpg central) but im on the computer for at least half the day
-
Yep... I usually work on programming when I've got perfect humor, when I'm a bit less happy I work on graphics, but usually both ends up in me being depressed in the end and losing will to work, heh...
-
yeah, its always a burden, you dont want to have to make the graphics, you just want them done...
-
It is difficult making assumptions. However, one good indicator as to game length is the file size.
-
Good - but not best. For example, gifs can take less place than bitmaps.
Length is generally count in meters or feet, so you can't get perfect measurement for the game in such units.
-
heh, thats funny, i think cesques smart
-
HEHEHEHEHEHE! Good one Cesque.
-
Lol. Of course I am.
-
Indeed.
An update, I have just increased my amount of grass tiles to 52. This is due to adding those flowers called dandylions. Later, I will research other colours in flowers which are quite coomon Smile so I might have 1000s of grass tiles.
-
Arghhghghrghhrghghrghghh! They worked terribly. So I have deleted all except the origional 4. I think snowy will be easier though.
-
1000 types of grass tiles? Whoa.
Hmm... Show 'em here, and we'll decide if they're good or not (heh)...
Snow? Cool. I love games with snow.
-
Too late for the flowery ones Cesque, they had a diabolical grid effect, and are delted. But I will do snow: I need to do snow.
-
snow is good Very Happy
-
Jóla snjó! Jóla snjó!
Yes I will be doing snow, and I know how to do it, because I looked closely at the ones in Rudolphs adventure.
-
jola snjo? is this german again?
-
No, that was Icelandic.
-
Rudolph's adventure uses no snow - the tiles which are complete "snow" are simply blank, white background, heh...
-
I know, but some of them have hills of snow and so have blue outlines.
-
well....thats kinda.....cheap?...
-
Who cares? It looks good.
-
i never actualy saw it....i kindof exited cause i got board, i thought it was very well made, but it was more of a child's game...not my type
-
It is quite fun.
-
For kids? Well, first of all, it's a rare sight to see a GOOD GAME for kids (most nowadays kid tv programs and games should be banned for making children either mindless snowmen or violent murders), second of all, I played the game and consider it one of most original and best tk games ever.
-
Hear, hear!
-
true....making a pg game is hard now with the demand of violence
-
It was fun. The most important part of an RPG: fun, so hard to do, so much ignored, so important.
-
Woohoo! After a day of research I have finally found what an Icelandic Viking house would look like! I will start doing the tiles!
-
is it for your game?
-
Yes, as it is a game based on Viking, myth, which of course has nothing to do with viking houses *coughs sarcastically*
-
heh Laughing , darn, well if your not going to use them for your game, then can i use them? (im not retarded, i can tell where theres sarcasm)
-
Laughing Very Happy Hahaha! Yes I will be using them.
-
heh Laughing , but really, when do you expect to be finished around?
-
As I said, when the Decology is finished Satan will be a snowboard salesman specialising in live demonstrations.
-
heh, but wouldnt satan freeze? Laughing
-
It would never happen.
