Title: (no subject)
Post by: Michael J. Hill on March 02, 2004, 08:40:16 PM
As many of you have noticed, the forums have been undergoing a lot of changes as we begin to prepare for a new MS site. Of course, information about the new site is confidential, but let's say we plan to integrate forum and site with some nice mingling. It'll be more fun than waking up early on Christmas to find all your presents under the tree.

Even though I probably shouldn't, and considering things are already starting to change, I'll highlight some of the new things that will affect you all right now.

First - As I have said before, I've upgraded the forums. Not much new about them that I know of as yet, but hey, easy upgrade, and we've got the latest version.

Next we have this news forum. Only admins can post new topics, but that doesn't mean replies can't be plentiful!

Moving on I have set up an archives category and a set of forums. I'm pretty sure we're not hosting all the sites anymore that we have forums for, so they'll "die" eventually and all their posts will get moved to the Hosted Forum Archive. Anybody can read, but nobody can post. There are also archives for the general discussion forum and the news forum. So when you notice posts missing, they haven't been deleted, just archived. For nostalgic reasons, we'll keep the archive dating back to 1.5 years, then those posts will be backed up somewhere, Spyder more than likely, and then deleted. News posts will share the same fate, unless we want a backup. Our purpose for archiving - to stop the revival of dead posts. Our database already occupies over 6 megs of data with the posts we have. It's a little large, especially considering I run tests on upgrades and such on my own computer first. There's also the fact that most other sites have archives too.

And finally, the crowning bit of fun I had before this post. While it's not primarily intended as a part of the new MS main page, it's good enough to track the forums, and set as a homepage for your browser. http://ibforums.mysticsoftware.net/index2.php -- This is a feature that's been with these forums for a while, but I have only set it up today, and I find what it offers is good enough for the casual forum-goer who just wants to pull quick tabs on MS and the forums. Have fun with it, but keep in mind, I have no return link set up as yet.

hmmm....i like the fact that MS is at least updating more often....but it sounds like your trying to take utter controll...hosting sites going down and lots of post sent away all jammed up in one section...sounds a bit unorganized...but its nice were getting more active Wink

and im not saying that you dont have power over MS, just that too much power is trying to be put into the activities of the users...

The point of archiving is that after a certain point, no posts should be revived (i.e. a post that's been dead for 30+ days). Archiving it into a different forum will allow it to still be read and exist. I don't know where you're getting that I'm trying to take total control. If you'd keep in mind for the moment that this is for better organization of the active forums, and that it is most practical to archive dead posts. If a post need truely be revived, a new topic could be made, linking to the archived post. And as far as shoving it all into one place, each post that get's moved into the archive is tagged with the forum it came from. So one could just do a search on the archive with the forum name, and all posts archived from that forum would come up.

And as far as putting too much power into users activities....I don't see where you get that from. I feel having an archive, however disorganized you may think it is, is practical. It keeps the more active forums clear of older posts. I don't see how this is putting power into the activities of the users. This stuff does benefit users, but it also benefits us as staff, so it's laid out evenly.

Keep in mind, I'm not trying to be pissy or anything, that's the problem with the written word, it's so....expressionless. One can do as much as they can, and still it could be interpreted the wrong way.

i see now...thought i dont like the idea of cluttering the suff together...they should be deleted after a couple months or so... and alll the inactive sites should go, leaving room for a new generation Smile

well thought out MJH!

Inactive sites are deleted after a relatively long amount of time (usually 6 months or so). I don't like it to be less than that because if my account was deleted after 6 months of not having an update, MS would've died long ago. In the future, I'm thinking of requiring sort of a monthly subscription service (for free), which would allow me to better keep track of who's actually around or not, and let me know whether or not to delete a site.

Woo, Mikey's posting again. Good to see you around, mate.

Integrated forums look better (worked a treat down TKZ...integration definately the done thing now...better than seperated content)....although that front page seems to go on and on down the screen for a while. Maybe less "recent topics" should be listed?

Good to see MS becoming active...it's like 2000 again....but without Lance and much better web design =P

But now I've changed it to Cid from FF8. I think it's FF8. But yeah...Last time I change my avatar for awile...I might change it back to the Crono Trigger one again. But I like this Cid one better!

well, in a sense we all killled him by sin, but it was the phareses who convicted, pontius allow the death, and the jewish nation who wanted the death.

Post by: Haraldur on April 16, 2004, 04:33:12 AM
If Pontius Pilate had not had him killed he would have faced a revolt. His job was Roman Governor, so that was what his job was to prevent. He was there to keep Judea under Roman Control. The appeasement of the crowd was a relatively bloodless way of doing so. Also, apparantly, Jesus was going to die anyway. Besides, it is quite a lot of the fault of Judas Iscarriot.

Post by: Cesque on April 16, 2004, 10:00:40 AM
Pontius Pilate did NOT kill Jesus. Jesus was killed by Caifass the archpriest and other members of priest councils, but the main "murderer" was Judas Iskariot.

The Jesus himself mentions that Pilate is innocent ("you wouldn't have any power over me if it weren't given to you from below, so greater sin has the one who betrayed me"). He also says "alas the one through which the Son of Man will be condemned, it would be better for this man never to be born".

As Pilate said, "I wash my hands, I am not guilty the blood of this just one."

Haraldur: That's quote from Passion. It sounds stupid in english, but in some languages having latin-esque grammatics, it makes sense, as "which" is refered to "which one", "what", that's at least how it looks in polish, and we have hell of a grammatics.

The meaning is "What is truth?"

Or maybe it should be "Quid est veritas" in direct translation, but I am assured the quote I brought is right.

Well, not the jewish nation, just a handful of them. I'm pretty sure there were plenty of jews who did "not" want Jesus to die. Also, it was not "our sin" that killed him. It's the other way around. He died for "our sin".

"Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iraq..."etc...

Where do i start....
Jesus was killed by pontius, but was extorted to by a rival family of Jesus. they were jealous of Jesus's wealth. the people who wanted to keep the non-faith ways of getting ahead in the synagogue (simony and the like) accapted, they didn't help the matter. Besides the fact that he was an alien.
