As many of you have noticed, the forums have been undergoing a lot of changes as we begin to prepare for a new MS site. Of course, information about the new site is confidential, but let's say we plan to integrate forum and site with some nice mingling. It'll be more fun than waking up early on Christmas to find all your presents under the tree.
Even though I probably shouldn't, and considering things are already starting to change, I'll highlight some of the new things that will affect you all right now.
First - As I have said before, I've upgraded the forums. Not much new about them that I know of as yet, but hey, easy upgrade, and we've got the latest version.
Next we have this news forum. Only admins can post new topics, but that doesn't mean replies can't be plentiful!
Moving on I have set up an archives category and a set of forums. I'm pretty sure we're not hosting all the sites anymore that we have forums for, so they'll "die" eventually and all their posts will get moved to the Hosted Forum Archive. Anybody can read, but nobody can post. There are also archives for the general discussion forum and the news forum. So when you notice posts missing, they haven't been deleted, just archived. For nostalgic reasons, we'll keep the archive dating back to 1.5 years, then those posts will be backed up somewhere, Spyder more than likely, and then deleted. News posts will share the same fate, unless we want a backup. Our purpose for archiving - to stop the revival of dead posts. Our database already occupies over 6 megs of data with the posts we have. It's a little large, especially considering I run tests on upgrades and such on my own computer first. There's also the fact that most other sites have archives too.
And finally, the crowning bit of fun I had before this post. While it's not primarily intended as a part of the new MS main page, it's good enough to track the forums, and set as a homepage for your browser. <a href='http://ibforums.mysticsoftware.net/index2.php' target='_blank'>http://ibforums.mysticsoftware.net/index2.php</a> -- This is a feature that's been with these forums for a while, but I have only set it up today, and I find what it offers is good enough for the casual forum-goer who just wants to pull quick tabs on MS and the forums. Have fun with it, but keep in mind, I have no return link set up as yet.

hmmm....i like the fact that MS is at least updating more often....but it sounds like your trying to take utter controll...hosting sites going down and lots of post sent away all jammed up in one section...sounds a bit unorganized...but its nice were getting more active Wink
and im not saying that you dont have power over MS, just that too much power is trying to be put into the activities of the users...
-
oh yeah, the the forums look awesome! well done!! Very Happy
-
The point of archiving is that after a certain point, no posts should be revived (i.e. a post that's been dead for 30+ days). Archiving it into a different forum will allow it to still be read and exist. I don't know where you're getting that I'm trying to take total control. If you'd keep in mind for the moment that this is for better organization of the active forums, and that it is most practical to archive dead posts. If a post need truely be revived, a new topic could be made, linking to the archived post. And as far as shoving it all into one place, each post that get's moved into the archive is tagged with the forum it came from. So one could just do a search on the archive with the forum name, and all posts archived from that forum would come up.
And as far as putting too much power into users activities....I don't see where you get that from. I feel having an archive, however disorganized you may think it is, is practical. It keeps the more active forums clear of older posts. I don't see how this is putting power into the activities of the users. This stuff does benefit users, but it also benefits us as staff, so it's laid out evenly.
-
Keep in mind, I'm not trying to be pissy or anything, that's the problem with the written word, it's so....expressionless. One can do as much as they can, and still it could be interpreted the wrong way.
-
i see now...thought i dont like the idea of cluttering the suff together...they should be deleted after a couple months or so... and alll the inactive sites should go, leaving room for a new generation Smile
well thought out MJH!
-
Hmmmm... more activity. Very pleasing.
-
Inactive sites are deleted after a relatively long amount of time (usually 6 months or so). I don't like it to be less than that because if my account was deleted after 6 months of not having an update, MS would've died long ago. In the future, I'm thinking of requiring sort of a monthly subscription service (for free), which would allow me to better keep track of who's actually around or not, and let me know whether or not to delete a site.
-
Interesting idea. A good one at that.
-
Woo, Mikey's posting again. Good to see you around, mate.
Integrated forums look better (worked a treat down TKZ...integration definately the done thing now...better than seperated content)....although that front page seems to go on and on down the screen for a while. Maybe less "recent topics" should be listed?
Good to see MS becoming active...it's like 2000 again....but without Lance and much better web design =P
-
yes, long live MSF!! B)
-
Indeed!
-
The front page isn't going to be the one we're using. You'll find something most different when we finish.
-
Me likey the browser start-up page Very Happy
-
its nice, i cant wait for its complesion! B)
-
As I said, this isn't what we're going to use for the new MS.
-
Fair do, although you should incorporate some of the features such as login/latest discussions/users with the front page of the new site.
-
im talking about the MS home, not the forums, though that one link does look nice Very Happy
-
Shhh....no one knows about that...
wait....yes they do...
-
Huh? What dose nobody know about?! I'm to tired to check! And I wanna know! I wanna tell other people!
-
Will you people please make a note about the new role-playing board Very Happy

-
Umm...everyone already knew that we were working on a site anyways. So I only told you what you should've already known =D. DarkElite and Haraldur actually "saw" the mockup of the new site, though it has had some minor changes to it since they saw it.
-
Razz See!!! You to are fools! It's no secret! I know you know! Dippy dose not know. Dippy dose not care. Dippy needs visit more often, eh?
-
hmm, i didnt think spyder would want every one to know....thought he thought MJH would get pissed.....
-
LOL, it's my site. Razz
-
Hehehe.
-
It ain't like i have total control. If he wanted people to know about it, that's his prerogative....i this wrote what i thought at the time.
-
oh, heh heh heh...i thought it was a PHP MS, and so MJH was designing it and he wouldnt want you to show people...im so dumb!
-
Your not dumb....you just didn't think the right things there's a difference....I guess....
-
DM, in your avatar...why is Squall's face covered? and what with?
-
It wasn't Squall (okay please don't laugh) it was Beelzemon from Digimon...heh...And that's what his face is like, but I think he had one of his shot gun pistols in the way. But now I've changed it to Cid from FF8. I think it's FF8. But yeah...Last time I change my avatar for awile...I might change it back to the Crono Trigger one again. But I like this Cid one better!
-
Nah, it's Matt72186 that's designing it, but the rest of us have had a hand in it as well.
-
no!! Spyder!!! dont let MS go.....wait a minute....this is a joke for april fools isnt it!!! i know it!!
-
Oh yeah....Now that you metion it it just might be.
-
heh...i know...i actually thought he ment it until i thought about it for a minute...like why would he shut down becuase he cant keep updating so often? well he only updates it about every month, plus he just bought a new plan for MS so why would he just pay more for less time when bearly any space was taken?
-
Yeah and why bother puting my game up the same day he decieded to shut down MS!?! Laughing Your right DE you have to be right. He is right, right?
-

-
Welcome.
-
Welcome, welcome! Will you be here regulary?
-
Yeah. Welcome. Any new member is welcome.
Your right DE you have to be right. He is right, right?
"Qui est... veritas?" - Pontius Pilate (I somehow like this guy... somehow)
-
"Which is... truth?"
-
ummm....you like that bitch?!?
he killed Jesus!!
-
The pharases (sp?) killed Jesus...
-
well, in a sense we all killled him by sin, but it was the phareses who convicted, pontius allow the death, and the jewish nation who wanted the death.
-
If Pontius Pilate had not had him killed he would have faced a revolt. His job was Roman Governor, so that was what his job was to prevent. He was there to keep Judea under Roman Control. The appeasement of the crowd was a relatively bloodless way of doing so. Also, apparantly, Jesus was going to die anyway. Besides, it is quite a lot of the fault of Judas Iscarriot.
-
Pontius Pilate did NOT kill Jesus. Jesus was killed by Caifass the archpriest and other members of priest councils, but the main "murderer" was Judas Iskariot.
The Jesus himself mentions that Pilate is innocent ("you wouldn't have any power over me if it weren't given to you from below, so greater sin has the one who betrayed me"). He also says "alas the one through which the Son of Man will be condemned, it would be better for this man never to be born".
As Pilate said, "I wash my hands, I am not guilty the blood of this just one."
Haraldur: That's quote from Passion. It sounds stupid in english, but in some languages having latin-esque grammatics, it makes sense, as "which" is refered to "which one", "what", that's at least how it looks in polish, and we have hell of a grammatics.
The meaning is "What is truth?"
Or maybe it should be "Quid est veritas" in direct translation, but I am assured the quote I brought is right.
-
well, in a sense we all killled him by sin, but it was the phareses who convicted, pontius allow the death, and the jewish nation who wanted the death.
WE didn't kill him. Our ancestors did. Because they were all EVIL! Well not evil but very sinfull because people didn't know the difference between right and wrong!
-

Well, not the jewish nation, just a handful of them. I'm pretty sure there were plenty of jews who did "not" want Jesus to die. Also, it was not "our sin" that killed him. It's the other way around. He died for "our sin".
WE didn't kill him. Our ancestors did. Because they were all EVIL! Well not evil but very sinfull because people didn't know the difference between right and wrong!
Umm, the people these days are no better...
-
Sure we are! It's the goverment that's no better! Like that son of a Bush and Saddam Husain (Sodamn Insane) and Osama Bin Landen (Osma Bin Looney)!
-
"Sodamn Insane"? Have you heard the song "Bomb Iraq"?
"Hello ladies and gentlemen, I would like you to welcome the man who made possible my reelection. Please welcome, Mr. Sodamn Insane!"
"When the Kurd, Kurd, Kurd, Kurd is the word..."
"Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iraq..."etc...
-
The song rules, and it's far better than another Weird's song about Saddam, starting with "we should destroy, should destroy, that iraqui boy..." which sounds like christmas carol.
-
There's another song by Werid Al and it's a parody of Taliman or something. I'm not to sure of the words but it's a funny song "1 Bomb! 2 Bomb! 2 Bomb! BANG!"
-
Hehehe. Some are quite good.
-
Yes, yes they are. But Sodamn Inasane and Osama Bin Looney are not good! Because they are EEEEEEEEEVIL!!!!!
-
Hmmmm... I have just had a thought... If he really had shut down on that date, you would not have been able to post that they had stopped.
-
Yeeeeeeeeeah......It's just because...I'm....DUMB!
-
Where do i start....
Jesus was killed by pontius, but was extorted to by a rival family of Jesus. they were jealous of Jesus's wealth. the people who wanted to keep the non-faith ways of getting ahead in the synagogue (simony and the like) accapted, they didn't help the matter. Besides the fact that he was an alien.
<a href='http://www.ancientmanuscripts.com' target='_blank'>Some interesting reading...</a>
MotD, should I try to get my web count up?? roflmao Razz Laughing Razz Laughing
