Dark Age Legends is what I'm calling a story based RP (Role Play). Basically everyone creates some characters and updates the story with their characters' experiences. Hopefully we won't get an incoherent mess, but it should be interesting none the less...
This is the character sign up / rules topic. The actual RP will begin in a different thread.
Theme
A fantasy medieval type deal. Magic is encouraged. Technology should be low (but a few weird inventions are okay). Guns are permitted if you really want them, but they shouldn't be too effective.
Background Story
Let's start with something simple...
The nation of Romme is located on a mid-sized island, about a three day walk from the northern to southern most point by foot. The castle and capital city are located at the northern most edge. The island also contains a port town and several smaller villages.
King Romme has received word that a mysterious "Black Army" has landed on the southern shore and is advancing straight for the castle... Quite alarmed, he sent several scouts to find out the meaning of this trespassing. None have returned. What could be the meaning of this? The long war with Tjed ended 10 years ago. Could they want revenge? No, the two kings were on good terms now. Finally, a name was extracted: The Dark Empire. Foreign invaders...
The castle was prepared for war. The town was evacuated to inside the stronger castle walls while the soldiers took up their positions just inside the outer town wall. This is where they'll meet them...
Rules
You can have up to three active characters (who you'll set up here).
As far as the story goes, anything can happen as long as it's in good taste and doesn't disrupt the flow of the RP. The only restriction is that you don't control other players' characters. i.e. If you throw a fireball at someone, you let them decide whether they get hit by it or not.
That said, no immortal god-like characters! This is a story, not a game, and there are no winners or losers. Your characters can be strong, but they should have weaknesses as well.
Be descriptive! Especially when you're entering a place of your own design. Try and build off of other posters' descriptions as well.
Finally, Try not to post more than once or twice a day... this is mostly so I don't get left behind (heh...).

Standing just under six feet tall, Draven has long black hair tied back at the shoulder and a piercing glance. His armor, black with red trim, is light and flexible. His gloves and boots are dark brown. His cape, dark red on the inside and black on the outside, sports a four-winged dragon insignia shaped out of red lines on the back-- the insignia of the Dark Empire.
Bio:
The overly pompous Draven is leading the menacing army that is making its way to Romme castle. He knows basic spells in other elements and some black magic, but his true passion, his obsession rather, is fire magic. He commands the fire element with devastating ease. He does not use a physical weapon, but sometimes likes to form a blade of fire to use as a sword.

Job: Knight Captain
Weapon: Broadsword, unusually ornate with a beautiful red gem in the handle. It's said to be his family heirloom.
Alliance: Romme
Description:
Iduran is a tall man, standing at 6'4". His short, once brown hair is graying with age, although he still has his cold, steely glance. His metalic gray armor is heavy, but he moves in it with ease. His cape is a light blue.
Bio:
The aging Iduran is King Romme's most trusted knight. But he is no longer the invincible warrior he once was. Still, his swordsmanship is unmatched throughout the kingdom. He also has great experience on his side, having credit for successfully ending the war with the nearby Kingdom of Tjed 10 years earlier. He has been put in charge of defending the castle against the impending attack of the Dark Empire. In battle, he relies mostly on his sword, although he does know a few basic wind spells.
We'll start as soon as we get a few more characters.

Description: Blond hair, and green eyes. About 5'11" and 180 Lbs.
Bio: At one time worked under the Romme, but then, due to lack of pay raises, traded on the force and sided with the Dark Empire. Now he is a hightly ranked officer in the Light Ifantry ground troops, and Wyverns (dragon rider, for those who have not read the Pern series)

Description:
A little more than 5 feet tall, Scorch has white hair which wave on the wind as he walks. He wears a dark leather mail, black-and-red leather cape and always carries on his staff, said to posses magical properties.
Bio:
Scorch used to be Dark Empire's powerful mage specialised in air magic, which employed brutal manner of striking his enemies with lightning on sight. One day, however, as he was angered by one of minor Dark Empire lieutenants, he created a hurricane followed by thunder rage over the battlefield, destroying forces of both Dark Empire and their enemies, then struck the lieutenant who opposed him with his devastating lightning attack.
Knowing that he might be captured or killed for treason, he fled the battlefield a short time after, and wandered the lands searching for some more safe task. Yet, the dark repution made it hard for him to get in contacts with people.
As the Dark Empire sent scout fleets to Romme, Scorch snipped on one ships, killed captain and the rest of the crew, then caused a huge storm - which seemed natural - to slow progress of other ships, and he himself landed on southern shores, advancing through the island woods to Romme to employ his very own plans...

Bio: Used to be a normal person untill his family was killed by a man with 12 fingers in total. He then joined the Dark Empire. But deep down he wishs to kill this man you killed his family

Bio: Sold his soul to the devil, and works for no one and lives to kill (ill be the PK muhahah). Once was a mercenary for hire, but now, mankind has angered him and he wants revenage for his brother and sister.

Alliance:Follows Zeros'. Alliance is basically how Zeros' is.
Description: Qeni is a small girl about 2"4 while Zev is about 3"9. They are brother and sister. Qeni has red hair while Zev has blonde. There village was attacked by raiders and Zeros' came to save them, he told them to leave him alone, but eventually he gave up and they followed him everywhere. Zeros protects them with his life, he will even give his own life to protect them...they are Zeros' reminder of why he hates mankind.

oh yeah a MUD is a text based RPG...not exactly sure how to makie one but you can...played on one called medievia...it kicked ass for no graphics but textbased.

16 year old mercenary? God, your country must look like Afghanistan (8-12 years in the army already)
Also... Only asking... What are escrima sticks, sai and bokken? I only know - from japanenese words - what are yumi, yi, karana, wakizashi, kotetsu etc. But your names are propably chinese. So anyway, what are they?
And... WHAT THE HELL is ADIDAS doing in MEDIEVAL ROLEPLAYING GAME?
Zeros - your demi-human, right? Then what are you in your non-human half? A demon (you sold soul to the devil, I heard he pays well and trades blood for oil)?
MUDs are not best idea, Zeros. Personally I never played once but I don't like them generally, from what I know.
Dude Man - having 6 thingers in hand was a sign of divinity in many tribes. Nazcas and different south american cultures depicted gods as humanoids with 12 thingers. Just lettting ya know Very Happy

Adidas is a type of uniform that the old chinese and japanese would wear (i think its that black one with about 3-4 white strings that keep in closed in the front)

Cesque - Yes it means that im half human, half devil and about the blood trhing, its also true.
And about the children and Zeros' past, the same bunch of thugs destroyed both villages, Zeros' was destroyed before Qeni and Zev were born.

Cesque: A bokken is a wooden training sword used by the japanese ninja. A sai is a 3-pronged dagger. Escrima sticks, also known as Kali Sticks, are 1 1/2 foot sticks made out of Rattan that originated in the Phillipines. They are about 1 inch in diameter.
And yes, if you read the bio, it is possible for my character to be a 16 year-old mercenary. His parents died when he was a week old, dammit! He learned martial arts and survival skills at a young age! Having mastered the martial arts at 12, maybe, he's more than fit to be a mercenary at this point.

The only reason I'm including Adidas is because I know from experience that their uniforms are the best. Well, I haven't tested Nike's uniforms yet, but who would? They're so frickin expensive ($90 each!!) Adidas uniforms are currently my favorites. So yeah. Other "modern" shit will NOT be included.

Just for fun check out the <a href='http://darkage.mysticsoftware.net/dal/viewer.php?id=472' target='_blank'>Dark Age Legends Archive</a>. All it does is read the post data from the forum database, but it might be easier for someone who wants to catch up on the story to read, since it strips off the (huge) signatures and avatars.

Cool! Hey Xorlak, maybe you should make an RPG out of this it would be good, you could just edit it a little bit. You would probally play as Iduran or something.

Nah, it works best as a story. Maybe a comic strip or one of those violent animes (heh...) but not a game.

Weapon(s): Wooden staff with spiked (thorns) vine growing and coiling around it, which is able to grab an enemy and entangle him, dealing pain and incapacitating.
Alliance: Now-fallen Romme.
Bio: Coming from a foreign land, Nagash found his job as an earth mage and healer among people of Romme. Foretelling the fall of the castle and city, before the battle began he moved out into the forests, from where he commanded groups of partisans and now tried to gather forces surviving assault of Dark Empire.
Abilities: Earth-oriented spells, both purely earth-based or nature-based, healing.
Look: Black skin color, dreadlocks. Whole body covered with tatoos and painted with tribal symbols. Wears leather armor, cape and few golden jewelry like bracers and talismans.

Hmmm, well now that it's down to just the three of us playing, we seem to be running out of steam. It seems that people don't want to join (or jump back in) because it's hard to catch up to the massive length of the story so far, which I understand.
So here's an idea. We wrap things up soon, call it end of 'chapter 1', and take a few weeks off. After a while I'll write a concise, easy to read summary and post a sign up topic for 'chapter 2', which will pick up right where we left off. It'll be easier for more people to jump in during the break in the action. How's that sound?

There also should be few days of rest in between the chapter, and propably you should advertise chapter 2 on RP forum... For others, like TKGB or CyberWolf to join.

It's pretty much an extention of the last one. This is just my clever ploy to get more people to sign up or jump back in (heh...)

You'll like my new character, Shin Yong. Not a mercenary like Sigilus, lol. His name means "One of great faith and bravery." His name is Korean. He is also a martial artist, but also he has mastered the ice element, and it forms a perfect barrier around him. He's a wanderer. Has a similar personality to Kenshin from "Rurouni Kenshin" and "Samurai X", lol.

Those weapons are Nabald's, Habald's father who died in a battle.

Description: Pretty much like Brash. Brown Hair. Taller than Brash.
Bio: He was the son of Nabald who was a leader in one of the war against Dark Empire. The battle was won and he became famous in the kingdom of Romme. But later Nabald failed to achieve victory on a battle against the Dark Empire.
Habald is strong and smart. He won many small battle like his father. He believed that Nabald's spirit is around him, helping him, and watching him.
