It's not too hard. I hope the thought of changing it doesn't even pass through Xorlak's mind.

Indeed.

I've already programmed breakout about a year ago. I then lost the program though, but now I can program it again, even better Smile

are you going to view these in the editor, or as a game?

also, do you still get some good credit for making a very sleek start-up and graphics (in the code) ?
Title: (no subject)
Post by: Xorlak on May 08, 2004, 10:31:43 AM
I'm aiming for something that will play through the RPG Code editor.

Graphics aren't as important as the game itself.  I'll mostly be looking at playability and how well it runs (i.e. it's speed, if the display flickers, etc.).  Display will play a minor role though, so it won't hurt to spruce it up after you get the main part done.

Have you posted about this at TKZ yet?

I just realised that I don't remember seeing anything about it there.

You should definately post it at TKZ. The Shack's contests are usually much more advanced than TKZ's because it's pure RPGCode, and it might appeal to a few people over there.

are you going to enter spyder?
Title: (no subject)
Post by: Spyder on May 08, 2004, 04:01:51 PM
Heh...I doubt it. My RPGCode skills have about 3 or 4 years of rust on them.

And there isn't anything to rust for me! Laughing

It's highly unlikely. It's been four years since the current demo was released, and I still don't even have a solid story for the game. I'd be surprised to even see another demo of Alpha.

aww....you should!! i want to at least see the next one!!  Sad

Post by: Spyder on May 09, 2004, 02:38:23 AM
I haven't even finished the first one! Or do you mean you want to see the next demo? The chances for there being a Demo 2 are far, far, far greater than me making the 2nd or 3rd parts of the series.

Why not have it as a sort of generic D&D style story, rather than a generic FF style story? It might make a change. I have the Dungeon Master's Guide. For example, you could have them as "normal" adventurers who are commisioned to clear out some sewers by a local baron, and then it can go on from there and eventually they can fight dragons etc., meanwhile the underlying story of Godiva flows past them and sometimes intervenes and eventually everything can link up and they save the world or whatever.

Post by: Spyder on May 09, 2004, 05:14:42 AM
That's pretty much how it is now actually. In the first demo, you basically go into a cave outside the town of Eisle and fight monsters there, until you reach the dragon, which is the first boss. Despite the lack of any real plot, the game did quite well with reviews. If you like games like AD&D or Diablo, Godiva is that style of game, where there's more of an emphasis on creating your character than the story.

In that case why not use a generic D&D story?

yes, Demo 2!!! I realy likied your character selection screen!! it was cool!

You said there was no plot. So I must have asumed that meant no story. Sorry.

... ... ... Wow. I was just wondering about what the reaction on TKZ would be if you posted new stuff about Godiva and said you were starting up again...

... ... ... ... Wow. I was just wondering if that happen with Cyrus and D&C...

Title: (no subject)
Post by: Haraldur on May 09, 2004, 10:17:44 AM
Actually, you have more hope. This is because there are about 5 or 6 people here who post regularly, and so it is unlikely that the minimum of 5 would be reached without the people at TKZ becoming involved. Anyway, competition is good for you! Razz

Yes, you can still work on it, resubmit it if you've turned it in, or start if you haven't started yet (heh...).  If it doesn't look like we'll get a the minimum five entries after a while, I'll set a final cut-off date for at least two weeks after I make that decision (i.e. there's plenty of time!)

Yep, found it.  Wow, June 1st.  I'm really late!  Heh, thanks for pointing that out.

Also, I'm giving you people way too much time for this.  Pounded my version out with less than 6 or 7 hours of work total (heh...)

Ah, but if you want nice breakout programs with lots of features from lazy people who have lots of other things they need to do, it takes more time Razz

But you're an expert coder. People like Asimir can't do that... they need more time.... they're, how do you say, inferior?

Hey Xorlak, next time, you should try doing something a bit less touchy....maybe a fighting game or something? (if that were so, outside graphics should be allowed...) but you get the idea....more of a game instead of a minigame....  B)
