Hmm, so in US you can drink from 21? In Poland, from 18, but that's still too high as most people drunk heavily in age of 16 (me? what me?).

Happy B-Day MJH!

Canada's drinking age is 19. Quite a few people drink before the legal age here in the US as well.

I probably won't be on FFXI for a little while as well, i formatted the drive windows was installed on (mainly to fix the error in that it misreported free space).  But i also needed a refresh.  So i've gotta reinstall FFXI, though i have a plan to save 90% of the update time....rename original directory (still exists on hd), install to default on that drive, delete, and rename the old one back.

I always keep separate partitions, a smaller drive for windows, a larger partition for all apps....allows me to format and reinstall windows with more ease.

Post by: Spyder on May 19, 2004, 10:19:33 AM
Sounds like that'll work to me. I'd do the same (partitions) but I hate having to change the install directories of everything when I install it...I don't know, partitioning would probably save me a lot more time in the long run...

No no no.  FFXI is on a different partition from windows, as are most all the apps i install.  What i meant was just rename Playonline to something like -Playonline and let the game install to the normal directory, then just delete, and rename -Playonline back to normal.  The only time it spends updating is an update check.

there is a lot of freedom for the states to control their own laws, and yes, the drinkage could be different in some states, but generally, all 50 states are now on 21.  There was a time when New Jersey was 19 for legal drinking, but people coming over from Pennsylvania to drink, proceeded to drink and drive, cause accidents, and NJ decided to raise it to 21.  This was some 10-15 years ago no less.
Title: (no subject)
Post by: Dude Man on May 21, 2004, 07:37:55 AM
Ah! I see. Makes sence I supose. NJ is smart for doing that, changeing it to 21 n' stuff. I hear over in Belgum or something the legal drinking age is 14! Now if you excuse me, I'm moveing to Belgum! Laughing I kid! I kid!

In the UK you can drink and vote at 18, and smoke and have sex at 16. What I do not understand is, what is the point in achieving adulthood in installments?
Title: (no subject)
Post by: Cesque on May 21, 2004, 12:51:33 PM
Hmm, strange, as far as I understood in Poland, you can have sex from age of 16 but watch porn from age of 18  Laughing

That is, I guess, you can have sex from 18 years, but doing so from 16 years is not a crime or something.

Or is it that all things, sex, smoking and alcohol are from 18 years...? Most propably. I get confused.

In practice, I've seen children smoking in age of, hmm, 10-12. In fact, that's even somehow common.

Canada

Legal age to consent (intercouse and oral) = 14
Anal = 18

Drinking age = 18

Smoking
To Buy = 18
To Smoke = 16

Sypder, as far as I know, BC is 18, too. But that's that the good thing about BC, (Editor: Censored) marriages are legal there. Smile

In the US, you can smoke at any age, but you have to be 18 to buy ciggarettes. Sex is different with every state. http://www.ageofconsent.com (http://http://www.ageofconsent.com) has a chart showing what ages are legal for what states.

How the hell do they enforce that?
Title: (no subject)

The same way they enforce the normal sex laws. If somehow they find out you had anal sex before 18, you get in trouble for it.

If I ruled the world...

Drinking: 16
Smoking: never
Sex (any type): 13
Voting: 16
Candidacy: 16
Tax paying: 16

Basically, I believe that adulthood begins at 16, with no staggering. The reason sex is at 13 is that, as populations get better and better fed, puberty is coming earlier, in females especially.
Title: (no subject)
Post by: Spyder on May 22, 2004, 07:50:54 AM
For me...

Drinking: 18
Smoking: never
Sex: 16
Voting: 16
Candidacy: 25
Tax paying: 15

Saying that people should be able to have sex at 13 because puberty is coming earlier is ridiculous. Just because they're going/have gone through puberty, does not mean they are responsible or mature enough to have sex. IMO, even 15 is pushing it, and any earlier than that, there are probably some serious problems with the individual's life that they're having sex so early.

16 for candidacy? Although you may think of yourself as mature enough as a 16 year old, wait until you get older. I can't even imagine anyone at my age (22) trying to run for mayor, let alone governor, president/PM, etc. As a leader, you must command respect from those you lead, and at 16, I imagine that would be impossible.
Title: (no subject)
Post by: Haraldur on May 22, 2004, 08:23:15 AM
The problem with laws forbidding sex before a certain age is that they are nearly impossible to enforce, and people have sex anyway. The only direct result is that when a girl gets pregnant she is less likely to admit it until a quite late stage.

As I have said before things should mainly start at the same age. I do not see the point in being able to vote at one age, and be able to be a candidate later, would that not increase apathy? Young people are not voting enough as it is. Also, tax should be at the same time as voting and candidacy. There are several precedants for this. In the war for American independance was the slogan not "No taxation without representation"? Also, in the UK, when women wanted to get the vote they pointed out that they paid tax. People who pay tax should have a say in where it goes. Currently in the UK you can vote and be a candidate at 18, but you start paying tax at 16.

Also, when it comes to whether people are mature enough, there is little difference between the ages. The old want higher pensions and better health care, the young and parents want better education, especially the young. If anything, the people who currently vote have more self interest than those currently too young.

Drinking: 18
Smoking: 20 (but I would illegalize tabaco and legalize marigwana)
Sex: 13
Voting: 17
Tax paying: 20

If I would rule my country (not the world, if I would rule the world, people will live in tribal communities occupying city-states or wandering like nomads, worshipping pantheistic God and living from hunting, fishing, foraging, farming, sheeping/shepherding [is there such a word?] or trading)...

Drinking: Depending on age in certain amounts. Let's say begin at age of 13, allowed amount is minimal, then it increases according to age until certain limit.

Smoking: Same as above.

Sex: Either from 16, or depending on lenght / size of your sexual organs.

Voting: If I ruled this country, there wouldn't be democracy, I would be the ultimate emperor, the head of the only official religious cult and leader of military, politics and economy.

Tax paying: Always, but only when you work. So simply at the age you start working.

As for the lower part, the depth (or the interior space), as for the breasts, total mass of both.

Ah is good. I just made a teeny little topic celebrateing your B-Day, because I'm the coolest nicest dude the world! But you see, since I am the guy who always changes the topic it is tradition that my topics must always change! But since that is a crime on these fourms, and I could possibly be punished for changeing the subjects all the time...then....HAPPY BIRTHDAY MJH!
