Fresh news, just from the front... LIVE!

We've sighted a silent ninja Spyder on the eastern flank. He crawls toward the enemy officer of llama cavalry, Randy! Slash, bash! Shimsham! Randy's eliminated, yet Spyder's position has been detected. He'd better run from Dan, yet...

Here comes a bunch of drunken berserkers called by Haraldur, the ice troops! We all know TKZ, under the blue flag with the sword, can not fight well on ice!

The scales of balance suddenly change again! For at the eastern border is sighted... Vampz! The foul demon comes to devour all MS. Here comes... The shadow approaches... The laughted is heard... He picks up a rock... He throws it... Straight at... at... Oops.

(dammit, we need a new video camera)

Indeed. More mead anyone? Anyway, it seems some Polish archers led by Cesque have managed to frighten the fell beast Vampz away for the moment.

Oh... it seems TKZ has disappeared for the moment. We will continue our attack later...

The cyborg commando goes towards the walls and turrets of TKZ and says "For the Brotherhood!" TKZ starts smoking soon after.

Maybe we should use a missile full of tiberium waste? We will force them to accept divination!

Citizens! Peace is upon us! A gift to every man, woman and child, from the Brotherhood Of MS! One purpose, one vision. The technology of peace.

...

It really would be great for MS to be the main TK site. After all, it never went down did it?

technically it translates as "Sit" but it can only be used in context when referring to a dog.  Hence its usage in the anime and manga.

Sure it has. When I did the server transfer so we could get more space/bandwidth the site was down for a week. Until TKZ actually dies, if in fact it does, it should remain the official site. There is nothing that MS has over TKZ other than space, bandwidth, # of games, and it's about 6 months older. TKZ runs much more efficiently, and is far more popular than MS.

Meh. Was TKZ not down for years?
Title: (no subject)
Post by: Spyder on May 31, 2004, 06:20:02 AM
Well, yes...but I think Vampz has more reason than ever to keep it going now. He wouldn't have brought it back and spent all this time and money if he knew he would take it down again after a year or two. And it being the official site would give him more of a reason to keep it up as well.

Title: (no subject)
Post by: DarkElite on May 31, 2004, 06:27:25 AM
yeah....

more efficiantly? bwa ha! no! they have had many times down, and places where i slows down *a lot*

i think the main reason as to why they are so active is because they are the official site, and so when people just try to come up with a site that might have help on the TK, they goto www.rpgtoolkit.com, and then get to the TKZ...
Title: (no subject)
Post by: Spyder on May 31, 2004, 06:36:02 AM
Many times down? Other than when Vampz took the site offline, this is the only time I can remember TKZ going down. As for being more efficient, I meant in putting files in their respective places and reviewing them, etc. Granted, MS has improved dramatically since Xorlak and Matt put the PHP site together, but it's still not as good as TKZ as far as I can see it.
Title: (no subject)
Post by: Vampz on May 31, 2004, 06:40:59 AM
That is true, DarkElite.

But then again, before becoming the official site TKZ still got a pretty respectable average of 4,879 page views a day.

In our first month as official site we averaged 16,766 page views a day. Since we have started new concepts such as game section, blogs, and since I have started pushing open source development, this month we have averaged 20,991 page views.

So the official tag does a lot, but I think even you, a hardball MS community member, has to at least give some credit to the staff and mods who do their stuff at the official site and continue to make it popular.

And the reason I closed the last TKZ was because I was becoming a nerd, I needed a very selfish and quick get out. Now my life is settled, going well and since the new TKZ is php...I can run it pretty much on it's own with no real input from me to a point.

Plus, the official tag and my semi-running of open source development means I really expect to be here (and the TK) for a long time. It's my hobby outside of sports and music. I don't do anything else on the internet.

Post by: Vampz on May 31, 2004, 06:49:07 AM
I know it's all good fun.

And believe me, I understand MS is undervalued by the community (and even by me at times).

And since it's gone PHPized, MS can finally really help the TK a lot - not just be another resource site.

I think the next step would be for MS to build a community of its own by attracting new ppl to the TK. At the moment, living an existance where most of your members in some way find themselves at MS after the TK site is a problem, as it's likely they'd remain at the TK site.

If MS can acheive that, it would really grow. Afterall, often the most popular sites for games/software are the unofficial ones.

(Btw, for the record, I make this claim because MS currently does not average in the top 50 referrers for people going to www.toolkitzone.com...which (http://www.toolkitzone.com...which) means most people who visit MS already have been or go to TK site)

It is the TK site, heh. Man...I know it may not say RPGToolkit.com...but it IS the TK site.

I just think the staff who work there should get the credit they deserve for working at the TK site....not just "TKZ". It's a lot of responsibility for them, they have a large community to answer to.

Anyways.

I can't speak for the others, but that could be because we're all either typing a direct link, or clicking an icon in our favorites, which I'm pretty sure wouldn't register as coming from Mystic Software, though I could be wrong. As for me, I open up TKZ in a new window, while keeping the MS forums in another, so as to read them both, without erasing the cookies of either (as both forums seem to have a problem with that...).

But yeah, page views arn't nearly as high as even when TKZ wasn't the official site. Here are the most recent webstats for the mysticsoftware.net server.

Admin - (Sin, helper and aider of vampz's evil, turns TKer's to the dark side)

Anti-TKZ Trinity:
Admin - (God, the father, bringers and creators of the anti TKZ!)
Community - (Holy Spirit, helper of the resistance, brings people back to the light)
Xorlak - (Chirst, TK God, the one who might save all the darkend ones)

RM2K has many communities...first let us take out the MMF communities. There's one on emulationzone.org:

Start with these guys. Should be easy to convert.

Post by: Spyder on May 31, 2004, 07:39:54 AM
Don't spam RM2k's forums. It'd only be sinking to their level. The TK is good enough to get users just off how how good it actually is. We shouldn't have to flood their forums to try and get support for it.
Title: (no subject)
Post by: Haraldur on May 31, 2004, 07:41:26 AM
I did not have spamming in mind. Just regular advertisements for the TK. Then some will check it out hopefully, and some will stay on.

Spamming a pretty low thing to do, and only worsens the TK name.

RM2K is a good tool for those who don't want to dabble in coding. Nothing wrong with that. The TK offers something different.

And you talk about "allies" between MS and TKZ...well...have you ever, ever seen people bad mouth MS at TKZ (with the exception of Xontu...who I think doesn't like Spyder)? As far as I'm concerned, it's a one way thing this "war".
Title: (no subject)
Post by: Spyder on May 31, 2004, 07:44:23 AM
lol, I was thinking of him (Xontu) as I read you 3rd line Razz .

There are not enough users of this site to start creating seperate forums for different subjects. I've even considered removing a few of the forums that "are" at MS. TKZ has seperate forums to keep the thread count per page down. Not only that, but everyone that visits these forums has a seperate forum at MS for their games, where you probably already post screenshots.

RM2k is a wonderful program, I never was able to work well with RPG Code so when I found it I fell in love with it. The programs(events) were so simple that I thought that I'd actually be able to make(and finish) a game with it

It so simple I love it

If you tried RM2k and hated it, you obviously havn't used it to it's full potential (same thing goes with the TK). What I really like about rm2k is the music manager. You can change the tempos of the midi files for the game without changing the original file in any way. It's the definition of awesome

Another thing I have to say is how smooth the in-game animation is. unless there are 7 events running at the same time, the animation goes smoothly.
The rm2k has alot of features that can outbeat the TK. Unless a list is written with every single RPG Code command in it, people aren't gonna know what does what. and then they'll ask on the forums and get called a stupid noob from people like MotD!!!. RM2k is just easier to use. Face it people

The traitor has spoken

Another thing I have to say is how smooth the in-game animation is. unless there are 7 events running at the same time, the animation goes smoothly.

So would the Toolkit if it ran at 320x240x16, as RM2k does...

The TK should have a lower resolution for people to choose, that would be awesome

We should aspire to be better, not equal to RPGMaker2k. The TK provides far better graphics capabilities than RM2k ever will.

Really? How's that?

Just look at games like Quintessance or Heraldry. They speak for themselves. RM2k could never achieve graphics of that quality because of it's severe limitations. Granted, animation in the TK isn't quite silky smooth at the moment, but there have been drastic updates to TK3 in the last few months, and it can only get better from here on.

If I remember right RM2k has a color limit of 256 colors and nothing higher, the TK can support higher, right?

oh yeah...256...not sure why I put 16. That would suck Laughing . And yeah, TK supports 32-bit color.

So, you mean...256 colours is the best you can get on RM2K?!

Damn right.

And Tosoto, why does altering MIDI tempo even seem important?

It's not really important, just a nice feature to have I'd say. That way you can speed or slow songs depending on the event. The Final Fantasy series does this quite often.

I say TK3 should have it!

That would be cool, I guess.

Of course it would be. It should also have a intrument editor for midis. I already have a program that dose that, but maybe TK should have it to.
