Hmm, I suppose it would make sense to post all the minor updates to the site out here as well (heh...)
For today:
Game section
- Next / Previous page added when browsing through game list
Resource section
- Sort by rating option (Shack style) available in both normal and Mozilla mode
- Browser now remembers the user's preference of normal/Mozilla mode
In particular, could our Mozilla users confirm that the sort by rating option works for them? Thanks. (Hmmm, perhaps I should actually download this Mozilla, heh...)
-
It works for me (running on Mozilla). I just downloaded the newest Mozilla version (1.8, it's beta) and I don't have to click the "Mozilla Friendly" link anymore (although I'm not sure if that's because of the newer version, or because you changed something).
-
Dark Age EX!
<span style='font-size:21pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:blue'>I KNEW IT!</span></span>

Really? That's great. No, I didn't change anything.

Update:
Review section
- The review submission page is now online. Now you can submit an in-depth review for any game in the database. Be sure to follow the guidelines!
-
The list is working for me. Im using mozilla firefox.
-
Thanks. I just downloaded it myself, so I'll be sure to check the site with it from time to time from now on (heh...)
-
Update:
Games section
- The new 10 category rating system is online! Now the games can be rated in specific categories, rather than a gerneral rating. This required the old ratings to be reset, so be sure to rate all the games you previously played under the new system as well.
-
I think I'll go check it out, RIGHT NOW!
-
reminds me of that old shack, yuo kno the one with the RPG codes?
-
umm...the RPGCode Shack? The name is still being used, it's just implemented with the rest of the site now (or the other way around would probably be more accurate).
-
LOL. Yeah, it's alot like The Shack. It's to bad G left, I probally would have made good friends with him...Well I made friends with X! I think ....I consider Xorlak as a friend.
-
Small update: Inventory counts!
-
What is that?
-
(Look at the sidebars on each page, heh...)
-
Did some major editing of the forums today, including dropping the member count from ~190 to ~120, will drop it further tomarrow hopefully. Also deleted a few forums that weren't being used. Mainly non-tk forums that weren't being used. Also re-ordered the forum list, and mass-pruned the topics older than 30 days. All old topics were not deleted, but moved to the Archive forums at the bottom of the forum list. I also made the Submissions forum into a link that takes you to the submissions page on the site, since submissions are handled globally, and no longer through the forums.
NOTE: If your username was deleted, and your still active, I'm very sorry. I'm pretty sure I did a careful enough job not to delete anyone that has posted or registered in the last couple months, but mistakes happen. Unfortunately your user information can not be recovered, but since post counts have been disabled, there shouldn't be a problem. Simply re-register your user name. There are user-names that have been saved to prevent impersonation (ie MrG) that will not be deleted for obvious reasons.
-
Yes yes...good idea.
-
Help Section
Since lately we've been getting general articles/tutorials and not many RPG Code specific ones, the RPG Code help section is now a general help section and contains articles from all categories (and is now linked to via the main sidebar on the left of the site).
-
Hosting Section
Updated the hosting page to show that we are accepting hosting applications.
-
Really. Yeah I got a question. Can you make your site on Power Point and then put it on your MS hosted site? If so, I'll re apply for a site!
-
LoL...
Dude, Power Point is not an internet language and is intransferable to HTML...
-
But it's for makeing websites so why not?
EDIT: Doh!! I mean Front Page, or something...
-
Both files made in PowerPoint and in FrontPage can be used to make a website, however, FrontPage is far better at it. Both of them save as HTML.
-
Power Point? Hmm, never tried it... I actually can't imagine how a site transfered from such thing would look.
-
I've messed with it, but never actually tested anything. All it would look like was any other normal webpage, with background colors/images and text. You couldn't do the animations and stuff. That only works for .ppt files, not .html. My first website was created using Microsoft Word, and I don't mean hard coding it in HTML, I mean typing out text, changing it's color, etc, as if it was a word file; then saved it as a web page. It was horrible looking, and each file was like 35kb in size because of all the crap MS Word added to it.
-
Heh, I've also done my first site in word. It seemed pretty easy, but in fact site sucked. Then I "purified" the code a bit to rid of all word elements once I got some idea about HTML in notepad.
-
Notepad, notepad, notepad! Wink
-
Gota love notpad Wink !
Well I'm working on my new site, it's comeing together pretty well accually, I'm almost done then it shall be made the officall DMDGames site!
Oh I'd normally PM you this Spydie but, I'm low on time right now, so is it okay if I have a Game made by Game Maker put on my site?
-
Updated the Submission page so that the guidelines are at the top, and added a warning about submitting resources that are essentially useless to anyone (ie tilesets with only a handful of tiles, poorly drawn tiles, and horribly disorganized sets). Also emphasized the fact that people should be zipping tilesets and various other resources.
-
Submissions
Now you folks don't have to bother to read the guidelines about zipping files, etc. since the site will spit files it doesn't like right back at you (heh...)
Latest Reviews
Yes, now you can see the 5 latest game reviews without even visiting the review section. Just another reason to come back every day!

Laughing
I wonder if that's the first time I've seen someone get banned. Funny image, Xorlak.
P.S. Sorry I haven't been as active lately. Been busy.
-
That's the first time ANYONE has been banned. Wink
-
LOL Cool.
-
Wow you've done alot of work Xorlax. I still think you need to get with the whole GD and make us a gamercard system Laughing. Imagine how many people from TKZ will come here when we have them in our sigs.
Oh and I almost finished coding my layout concept. I will upload it tomorrow. I was going to do it in CSS but the list navigation kept mucking up so it's in tables.
-
Hmm....tables....such a deprecated concept....nya~!
-
Well it's 50:50 on the whole CSS/Tables thing. Everything's CSS but it's got Tables keeping it together else it's just all over the place.
-
Yeah I've been trying to migrate away from tables in other projects. Not working out. (Heh...)
-
Nobody knows how to properly use the positioning aspects of CSS...my site works perfectly fine (save for some IE glitches I think) and I use only one table, mainly because I couldn't be arsed to write up a new calendar portion. http://ls.mysticsoftware.net/ -- I supposed I could modify it to table-less as an afterthought.
-
Sorry bout the layout not being up yet....I got Zelda on my Wii...It's almost finished though and I will upload it soon.
-
MJH YOU were in Baltimore, dude I've been here since last Thanksgiving! WOAH! btw the new site is pwetty, like the lines. can i take a look under the hood?

If you're referring to my MJH no Sekai website - the answer would be....naaaaa~. Actually, I try to keep most web designs to myself, though this is very simple. I just make extensive use of XHTML and CSS positioning. The "scanline" approach is a very simple image: 2 pixels, 2 different colors, stacked vertically. Most of the other things, such as "inframe" scrollbars, are done using a css overflow:type attribute.
-
God I forgot about me doing the whole layout thing. Ah well. I spent about 2 hours working on it today and I sent Spyder an image of what it looks like and I think it looks pretty good....but I'm not showing you Razz. Oh and by the way I think the links page needs to be updated or removed because it's just a load of broken images.

For those wondering, here are the good reasons why to avoid using tables and use CSS Positioning attributes and <div> tags:
1) Tables cannot be rendered properly until the entire block of code is loaded. This becomes a nasty issue when you use nested tables. While most browsers try to render realtime when buffering the download of a website, the proper display of a website cannot be obtained until the page has finished downloading.
2) While individual <div> blocks may have similar rendering issues, the don't require the entire thing to be loaded properly. Assuming one uses the CSS size and positioning attributes properly, each "cell" of a <div> can load, and be displayed immediately, and usually with proper respect to a website's design.
3) <div> provides much more control with regards to placement and sizing through the use of CSS. While tables are restricted to sizing, padding, and margin attributes. Tables can achieve a pseudo-positioning attribute when linked to CSS or are subsequently nested.
