Post by: Mark of the Dragon on June 09, 2004, 05:27:11 AM
Alright guys, listen to this. Last night, Master Kevin was listing of people who were ready to test for their next belt at the end of the month, and I was one of them! I'm going for green, and I've only been Orange for about a month and a half! It normally takes 4 months for someone to advance a belt!

I'll tell ya, Master Kevin has more faith in me than I thought Smile

Cool, huh?

LOL, yeah. Hey, guys, I had to write an essay on courtesy for the belt test. I'm gonna post it here; let me know what u think:

Code: [Select]
Courtesy goes beyond proper etiquette and good manners, but rather, is about respecting those around you. When one shows courtesy to another, positive relationships build, and friendships may eventually form. Such relationships form a healthy environment for not just an individual, but for those surrounding him or her as well.

To me, courtesy is more than just a virtue?but a key part of my character. By respecting others, I have gained the respect of many around me. Respect has nothing to do with whether or not someone is stronger than you, that is fear. Respect has to do with a person's character, their virtues. Every day, no matter what, I am able to greet everyone with a smile on my face. I help people without being asked when I have the chance.

By saying please and thank you to someone, you increase their opinion of you, even if it is just slightly. It adds up. However, refusing to be courteous can lower an individual's opinion of you. Basically, courtesy can be a double-edged sword; beneficial if practiced, and harmful if neglected.

What is courtesy? Courtesy is the true foundation of all positive relationships.

What do you think?

Krav magas would laugh you off for writing essays for black belts  Laughing Nevermind. I'm not one of 'em. Their tests look like this:

"You see the fog? Somewhere in there, in the hall full of crates, is your enemy. The one of you who first manages to break other's hand, wins. Of course after 5 minutes we're letting in sleeping gas. So you have about 3 minutes to find and break arm of your enemy, and 2 minutes to get away. He has same goal as you. Have fun."

Hmm, congratulations, anyway, MotD. Wish you belts of all possible colors  B)

He's writing an essay for Green belt, not black, though I seriously doubt he'd have to do anything of that magnitude for any belt.

Spyder, I don't do "karate." No, I do Taekwondo. And no, they are not the same thing.

LOL, self defense is indeed a part of Taekwondo, but it's also about building character.

And the belt colors... White, Yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, Purple, Brown, Red, Black
