Ok, I know the game is from 1999, but there are many FF addicts out here. So, I want to know what you think...does it deserve it's reputation of worse FF game ever? I think FF8 was one of the best ones, myself. I know it's crazy, but I really think it is.
Post your comments below, and vote in the poll above.

Great game.
Amazing storyline.
Innovative stat system.
Fun card game.
Interesting characters.
Superb ending.
Spectacular graphics.
Beautiful music.
..... I really don't see why people hate it.
-
I'm totally undecided.
And for one reason and one reason only!
I have not played Final Fantasy Eight! -_-
-
*nods with dudeman*
-
I definately liked it. Not as good as 4,6, or 7, but definately good. Worst FF will always be Mystic Quest or whatever it's called.
-
I didn't like the graphics, really. A mix of 3d and 2d doesn't look well, at least it doesn't even look as well as in FF7.
The BS is cool but really watching summons' or GFs' or whatever they were's animations over and over makes one sleepy. They're basicaly too long. Razz (yeah, I know they were also a bit long in FF7 but not that long)
I voted for mediocre in the poll.
-
You should be able to turn the long summon animations off, so that each summon only lasts a couple seconds, rather than 30 or more.
-
Well, I guess there are some timed battles in which this would be considered cheating Razz
-
FFVIII was the first RPG I ever played, actually.. And it got me into the whole Genre. If it wasn't for FFVIII, I probably wouldn't even be in the TK community.
Anyways, I loved it. It was.. a change, certainly, but it was good.
It was under way too much hype when it was released, giving it a bad rep.
It had graphics that were simply amazing for the date it was released, and it had a wonderful storyline.
I must say, I did hate the weapon upgrading and lack of armor, but the junctioning system more than made up for this. I've never been fond of Card Games too much either, but FFVIII had a decent one. The characters were perfect.. So believable. And for once, Square had an angsty, depressed, reclusive guy for a main character, instead of the unusually upbeat, optimistic clich'e you see so often. And who didn't fantasize about Rinoa? Wink
The GFs were great, it was packed with side quests, (of God I wish I had one of those Pocket cards or whatever you need for the Boco game..)
Saddly.. I lost my copy.. ;_; Need to buy a new one.. or get a comp capible of running the ROM...
-
You can buy Final Fantasy 7 and 8 for the PC if your wondering. You probably wouldn't need a computer better then the hardware they used in a PSONE to run it. My copy is messed up. I liked it though. Never beat the last boss...
It still remains that Mystic Quest was the WORST and Final Fantasy 3(6) or Final Fantasy 7 are the best Final Fantasy's ever.
-
I liked FFIX, FFT, and FFV the best of all, really.
You didn't beat the boss? Aw man, you missed out. The ending owned. And the boss was so cool.. I was at level 100 with all my characters and GFS and she was still a challenge. But, if you have Quistis and her Mighty Barrier and her Shockwave Pulser (This weapon is so good the boss has it itself ..) The boss can be beaten in around 15-20 minutes. Without Quistis it's wicked hard though.. XD And saddly, up until the last boss, Quistis was my least favorite character, heh. I actually got pissed that she ended up in my party.. til I won.
-
Yeah, the ending is truly brilliant.
I prefer to have Zell in my team. I can pull off at least 60 attacks if I get the 12 second time period. The other two people just keep him healed Razz
-
Lol, Yeah.. Zell is Awesome. He's my favorite character (Well, maybe him and Irvine are equal..). Squall was my strongest guy though. Lion Heart has to be the best Limit in the game.. I mean, I do 4,000-9,999 each hit since I was level 100, and I got to hit the enemy at least 10 times.. But I could never be sure if I'd get Lion Heart or some crappy one like Rough Divide. And if you got a good Quistis in your party, you're pretty much a God. Just cast Aura or use an Aura stone, Use her mighty barrier, and if you can still get whooped after that, you need to consiter playing a different game. XD Of course, Rinoas Invinsible Moon isn't bad either. Go Angelo The Doggie. ^^
-
I really liked Final Fantasy 8 mabye because it was the first 3d in the series that I played. Mystic Quest was the first Final Fantasy I bought and I've played it about 10 times. I haven't beat FF8 yet I gave up near the end of the third disc.
-
Wow, and I thought I would be flamed Smile
As for the reason for long animations...it has to do with the "BOOST" system.
-
Yip. I normally don't like using my GFs though, and in some battles, using a GF was pretty much a retarded move. EX: Greiver, Aden/Rinoa. f course, sometimes you need them, but using GFs costantly just sorta takes the fun out of it.. and Eden.. God.. That was just madness.
-
Well, I have a gameplay goal this time: Get all GFs and max them out entirely. Also, I want to have a huge-ass supply of magic for all characters, and a huge-ass supply of phoenix pinions so Phoenix will have a better chance of appearing to save my ass.
-
For first time I thought GF means "girl friend". It adds new sense to some sentences...
using GFs costantly just sorta takes the fun out of it..
Get all GFs and max them out entirely.
-
Maybe that's what they meant...
-
Very funny. No, this is Final Fantasy 8 talk...
-
FF3J (the NES one) is the high point of the series, IMHO.
Mystic Quest isn't that bad.
I can't judge 8 because I haven't played it. I'm confident that it's more of the same, but I'll probably never bother playing it to find out. Oh well.
-
8 is the best one, same with 7 and 9. Im into all of the FFs though. Very Happy
-
I didn't really like 9 that much...7 was awesome. 9 would've been better if the story moved a little faster, and if Kuja wasn't such a (Editor: Censored) crossdresser.
-
Aww.. Kuja was my favorite character XD. The storyline in 9 did move slow, but it was awesome.. Steiner was a complete dick though.
-
Yeah...Rusty had the worst attitude problem I had ever seen.
-

You seem to have the exact same opinion on Final Fantasy games as me Razz
-
What? Why was that censored out?
-
I dunno. What was the word? I've only seen the F word censored. What other 'offensive' words are censored I wonder..?
-
It starts with a G, man...
-
I know! It's gay!
-
Yeah...they censored that out.
-
It's unfair, because now I can't sing this...
I feal pretty! Oh so pretty! I feal pretty and witty and (Editor: Censored)!
It's just dosen't work....
-
Heh. Watch yourselves kids. The filters are there for a reason. Try not to cheat your way around them too much. Wink
-
I can't really understand why the "G-word" is censored, it's simply a sexual preferce of many people (like KSNilok), but I guess tons of idiots like Whist on TKZ and such use it as their beloved curse word.
I can still curse in polish and I guess they'll never censor this, kurwa mać! Hehehe.
Nevermind. Pieprzyć to Smile
-
I guess we just have to say homosexual for now on, but I don't go around calling people that, because I don't consider that an insult, anymore. ANYWAYS....
Final Fantasy 8 is good even though I have never played it Razz !
-
I can't really understand why the "G-word" is censored, it's simply a sexual preferce of many people
Technically it's not a sexual preference at all, and the homosexuals abuse the word just as much as people like Whist, just in a different manner...but we won't get into that. Let's get back on topic now kids.
-
We always seem to go off topic after about 10-15 posts...well it wouldn't be MS if we didnt huh?
-
Oh my god, isn't that the truth? I've given up my vain crusade against off-topic-ism.
-
Hey, has anyone seen the screenshots from Final Fantasy 12 yet? Panelo looks pretty (Editor: Censored)ing hot!
-
Man, how many FFs shall there be? 34? Really, making nothing but sequels makes me feel as if they had no better ideas for games than sequels.
Hot? I've checked and it seems so Smile
-
No, but Ill take your word for it.
-
Hey, has anyone seen the screenshots from Final Fantasy 12 yet? Panelo looks pretty (Editor: Censored)ing hot!
I did a google image search for "Panelo" to find who you were talking about.
I found this:
I agree, she's hot.
-

Hot? I've checked and it seems so
Actually, I think the only one that could be considered a sequel is X-2, The rest are just different games they slapped the same name on so they could save money,Re-Use 15-year old stuff, and sell more copies......but theyre still good, And Eight is Good, I like the Draw System....
And yes........Lizards.....Mmmmmm....
-
Hey, has anyone seen the screenshots from Final Fantasy 12 yet? Panelo looks pretty (Editor: Censored)ing hot!
Really?? That hot!? I wanna see! I don't care about the damn crocodiles!
-
IM undecided. I played all til IX except VIII and I and Mystic (couldn't find those two). Tactics owns. Cesque, there should be 34 of them if Nebuo Uematsu (sp?) does the music!!!
*listen's to Sepi's boss theme...ohhhhhhhhhyeeeeeaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh*
-
Sephiroth's them is called "One Winged Angel", for obvious reasons. I agree AD, Tactics is one of the best RPG's I've ever played. I'm going to get Tactics Ogre Advance and FFT:Advance when I get my NDS. You should be able to get the original FF, and FF:Mystic Quest, for emulators.
-
Yes. Nebou Uematsu does some great music.
-
He also did the music for Kingdom Hearts, which if you haven't played...SHAME ON YOU! And I STILL haven't beaten Sephiroth on KH..
-
Asimir, if you want to see Panelo, go to http://www.ff12.com and look up downloads. You'll see a wallpaper with Panelo on it.
Hmm...maybe I mispelled her name. I'll check EGM later.
-
PENELO!
And yes she is hot, so is Ashe...
-

No thanks. I'm fine with my lizard people Very Happy
-
I'd hate to see who you date Razz
-
Whatever, Asimir...you're crazy.
-
IMO Ashe is better looking. Vaan could almost look like a girl Sad Why did Square not make an English version of this website?
They're using the same race name(s) as in FFXI (ie Hume). I wonder if it will tie into FFXI in other ways.
-
I sure as hell hope not...
Ashe...I haven't seen her yet...just Penelo.
-
Why not? FFXI kicks ass
-
Well, I can't really judge FFXI because I haven't played it. However, I haven't played it because I can't afford to pay $13 a month plus $.75 for every character I create.
Oh my god, I am such a loser. I spent all day yesterday playing Final Fantasy X-2! Started a new file, and all three of my party members mastered their default dressphere! Now I'm working on alternating the defaults before I do the mages and the songstress...
-
It's actually $1 per additional character ^_^
I personally don't see the point of creating more than one. It takes forever just to level one character, let alone two or three, or 16 (which is the max).
-
I personally think that Square shouldn't charge so much! Otherwise I'd buy the game!
-
Most MMORPG's have a fee of 10 dollars and above...they have to maintain servers...heh. So of course its gonna take a certain amount.
-
Very Happy the best i love ff8 i could play it all night till i beat it
-
I personally think that Square shouldn't charge so much! Otherwise I'd buy the game!
Think about it. If you want to seriously play a MMORPG, your usually going to spend a good deal of hours playing it. Games like Metal Gear Solid cost $50 and are ~10 hours of gameplay. That comes to ~$5/hour of play once you've finished the game. With MMORPG's, with the game costing about $50 initially, and $13 a month say for, a year, that comes to about $17.17 a month if you play for one year. Say you played a mere hour per day, which is nothing compared to what most people play with MMORPG's, it would still only cost you a mere $0.57/hour of game play, and I guarantee you won't come close to beating the game in that amount of time, and even if you did come close, by that time a $20-$30 expansion would be released (ie "FFXI:Chains of Promethia") and give you even more gameplay.
Which is the better value?
Aside from cheap gameplay you get a great game that lets you team up with people you know, and knew people as well. Everyone likes to chat. Just take a look at all the applications that let you chat with people such as these forums, chat rooms, and instant messagers. Now you have a game that lets you play with thousands of people and chat with them to. Metal Gear Solid (and other games) won't let you do that.
-
Hey Spydey is anything wrong with FFXI Playonline viewer? Because I tried to connect yesterday, but it kept giving me a busy siginal after I logged in and it tried to update....
-
Seems to work for me.
-
No comments on me being hooked on Final Fantasy X-2? Wow...I think I'll go play that game for 2 hours instead of sleeping.
-
There would probably be more comments on it if anyone else were half as interested in that game as they were just about any other game on the market. I think one website put it best, "This game is just soaked in estrogen. So far, the girls have stood around talking about boys or just giggling, way too many times for my taste."
I'll wait for FFVII: Dirge of Cerberus to play an FF sequel
Besides, your post didn't seem to imply you had some sort of obsession.
-
Well, the only reason I'm playing that game is because I want to know if Yuna ever finds Tidus...ya know?
-
My guess is that she does ^_^
-
I think she gives up and goes off with a shoopuf.
-
Asimir, that's a sick thought...
And Spyder, you might be right...but I guess sphere break is another thing I like about that game...and the Lady Luck Dressphere...
*dirty thoughts*
-
hey Final FantasyX-2 is great game, people just can't accept the main characters being girls instead of girlie men.
It's not better than FFX but for a sequel it's not bad at all.
-
I have no problem with playing a female role in a game. The problem is that the programmers over-emphasized the female stereotype, and the hero's act like 14 year olds. Then there's all the skimpy outfits Square threw in. FF's used to sell for their story/gameplay/graphics. When Square starts trying to sell the game with sex, it makes me wonder how much the other three are lacking that they'd have to resort to that. I don't have a problem with the chicks looking good, but Square didn't have to emphasize it.
-
I think the reason they probably did that (even though I don't agree with it) is to maybe get a different audience. I haven't gotten too far yet so I can't say much for the story however the graghics and gameplay are excellent.
-
They attracted many veterans, though...(me in particular)
-
FF8 is amazin but FF7 beats it by far...............................................OH YEA!!!!!
-
No comments on me being hooked on Final Fantasy X-2? Wow...I think I'll go play that game for 2 hours instead of sleeping.
Ahh...I can see you now, blood shot eye's, and wile your up and walking around in the morning, your humming a tune from the game that you heard most off. And then when nobody's around, you mime casting spells and doing sword techniques! Razz Very Happy
-
Hey guess what? I got FF Anthology!!!
ONe problem: I got it used and it didn't come wiht the music disc!!
Got the games though
YAY!!!!
-
wow i bet that cost a pretty penie. How much?
-
Eh? You can get the FF: Anthology brand new for $20...
-
Yeah; greatest hits at Best Buy.
-
*Slaps IQsoftware around with a large, smelly tuna for no reason what soever*
-
*Steals Zero's Tuna and cooks it*
TUNA!!! Razz
-
Damn, payed near that! like $15! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...
*hums Shadow's theme*
ahhh that's better....
*trashes room*
btw i can have my friend burn the disc for me. He had the game since it came out. He had the original SNES game too! Lucky bum!
oh yeah, it's been a while...
*sarcastic coughing*
-
You know you need a Modchip to play burned PSX games right?
-
Or a gameshark.
If you don't know how, you start up the playstation with the gameshark on, the lid open (hold down the button at the back somehow so the playstation thinks the lid is closed) and a perfectly legal game in there (Any legal game. Doesn't have to be the game you want to play or this whole thing would be pointless). Then once you get the menu thing for the gameshark, switch the disk to the copied one then continue as normal.
-
That has to be the Parallel Port Gameshark to doesn't it? I don't think the CD one works, but I could be wrong.
-
Ya, I think so.
I've never used a cd gameshark. I forgot about them.
-
NO i have the games, but no music cd.
almost done with VI, YAY!! I get to kill Kefka!!
