You may or may not know that we will be moving servers very soon. The move will allow me to save nearly $500 a year, while giving MS more space, and combining all four servers into one, so good things all around. Before the transfer, the databases will be backed up, and this forum locked. During the transfer, MS and all hosted sites will probably go down for a while. Hopefully no longer than a day, and even better if it's less. After the transfer, it could be possible for all hosted sites to get an increase in disk space. I'm not going to guarantee anything, but it is definately possible. Games will still be hosted seperately from websites though, so you don't have to worry about them taking up any of your space still. Many of you remember our last server transfer, and how horrible it went, taking a week for the site to come back online. Hopefully this will not be the case. We will be moving to the same servers that TKZ moved to recently, and it was down for merely a day, most of which was Vampz trying to move TKZ enormous databases. MS' databases are quite a bit smaller, and thus, shouldn't take as long to move.

Soon means Monday hopefully, but whenever our order is processed, and the site setup. Also during the transfer, the forums will undergo an upgrade.

Fingers crossed this goes well. As Spyder said - the main trouble with TKZ was the huge database and then the domain transfer.

MS should be a little faster, although they still have to transfer the domain.

Please don'y make it just like the ones a TKZ, Ilike this type better, that why I like to hang here. These fourms are more organized and spaced out and such.

The forum upgrade is merely a newer version of these forums. Yes, there will be changes, but many things currently in these forums will be in the newer ones.

Yahoo! doesn't provide anywhere near the requirements we need to minimally RUN the site.

How much space do they provide? We used to be hosted on Bizland, who gave us an entire 30MB's of space Very Happy

My uncle uses Yahoo as a host, he pays about $20 a month for 20MB I think, no PHP, no MySQL, he has the "Pay too much for a piece of crap" plan. I'm redoing his site and taking over as webmaster, and I told him I won't do anything big until he moves host. I recommended rackhost.net to him.

If you wanna check out his site, it's leapingtiger.com, it's a shaolin kenpo karate studio he teaches at.

I here MSN has cheap hosting and you can update the site real quick, but I don't think it's to flexible, about as much as one of those steal rods.

Nye, so anyways TKZ is back up so that means the server isn't bad, right?

We'll see, the only way we can determine the "goodness factor" of the host is to monitor it over a long period of time, as long as that is the only time it's down for awhile it's alright, but if in a few weeks it happens again then questions should arise.

I'm pretty sure it won't go down anymore. But you know, you can't be TO carefull, but I guess you dudes can't move the site untill Spydie get the e-mail.

Yeah, anyway it's really cheap, so if we find out it isn't the greatest it wouldn't be too hard to go back, and it wouldn't be too much of a loss.

I was reading the forums at NetSpace's website. Apparently someone had a site that was using a hell of a lot of resources, making Apache hit 90+% CPU usage after less than 60 seconds when the OS would boot. It took them a while to figure out the problem, and what was causing it. I doubt it will happen again, and even if it did, they'll know better what they're looking for. However, that still doesn't quite excuse the fact that it's been five days since the last responce to my help ticket, and that I still don't have access to the CPanel.

UPDATE:

Finally received login information from NetSpace and we are starting the transfer. Once all files have been moved over to the new host, Mike will lock these forums so he can backup the MySQL databases, transfer them, and set up the new IPB 2.0 forums on the new server. Once everything seems to be working correctly, we will transfer the domain name to the new server. I don't expect the site to be down for more than a day, and hopefully it will be less. You may be able to access the new website before the domain name transfer by going to http://wisdom.virtualserverhost.com/~mystic
