phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database

I'd report it at TKZ, but it's down.

It does a lot of good posting it here. Just wait till it's back up or something.

Yeah happens to me too, it seems to be an error returned by the mysql database.  I guess this cheap server does have it's downsides, TKZ has exceeded it's mysql connections...  This may be because they don't use persistant connections, so everytime a user connects it will create a new connection, if those aren't closed immediatly it'll take awhile for the server to know it needs to disconnect, and when there are too many, that happens.

Oy, thanks for explaining it Mat.

7E: I posted it here so I could have the reason that happend answered. And I thought I was the only one to get it.

TKZ has exceeded it's mysql connections

Actually it would appear it's the entire server - not just the site. All sites on this particular server are down when MySQL is accessed, all claim to have exceeded their connections.

The server I'm on, Saviour, has been struggling for a couple of weeks. Kind of annoying since the other servers (one with which Dan is hosted) has been doing fine.

Hopefully they'll switch servers.

It's odd isn't it? Cheaper server; more problems.

mmm... yucky... sounded like a good host, but the prices seemed too good to be true, perhaps here is the downfall....

Perhaps it's because of the cheaper servers...

And after all that hassle of getting out of beamhost too...

Well, to be fair I had 6 months of flawless hosting from this company until the last week or so.

So lets not rip them apart just yet - hopefully it'll get resolved and everything will be smooth.

Hmm. I suppose I'll give them a chance...if the guy actually responds to either one of my help requests any time soon  and maybe even send me my login information so I can get started with this damn transfer.

I'm guessing there is a reason. It's a one or two man company (hence cheapness), so maybe one got ill or something...hehe, could be anything.

Very Happy It's because of the lack of time I visit TKZ it's probally only 20% but I'm not to sure, I don't visit the site as much as this one, but it's still on of my interweb routine sites.

Found an interesting website, some good tips here about what to ask your possible web host before you sign up <a href='http://www.free2code.net/tutorials/webdev/25/Questions_to_ask_before_signing_up_hosting_service.php' target='_blank'>http://www.free2code.net/tutorials/webdev/...ing_service.php</a>

I found lunarpages to be the best deal I have ever found on-line.  If you sign up for it, can you please put in that imagin15 or www.imaginethefantasy.com refered you?  I love that place.  I purchased 2 extra SQL databases through there to work on a shop,  forum, and php-nuke site, and we wound up having a conversation about current events.  really nice people over there.  Fast efficient servers.  they RULE!  sorry for advertising, but I like them a lot Smile

At $23 a month for a mere 1200MB's, it's more expensive than Rackhost.net, where it's $15 for 1000MB's. They're 800MB for for $8 isn't bad though, but it only provides 1 MySQL database. I think MS is currently using 5 or 6.

Hmm... this should be what cyrus calls e-friend.

Why not friend? Oh well, a friend is someone you can call when you're in trouble, someone you can borrow money from and go get drunk with. Heh...
