Dark Age Games / DAL Alumni?
« Last post by D. Ein on January 28, 2014, 04:34:14 PM »
Well, I don't wonder whether anyone posts here -- this is self-obvious when one presses the "show unread posts since your last visits" button -- but I do wonder, do any DAL alumni still visit these forums? If you do, where are you now? How far have you gone? Has DAL influenced you in any way?

I am a programmer now, the only one in a fairly promising startup, concentrating on web technologies -- javascript, html5, and the like. Alas, not a published writer. I've joined another website, youngwriterssociety.com, where I occasionally post stories and less occasionally critique other people's stories, under the username carbonCore. DAL was the thing that got me writing in the first place, for which I am very thankful. It has given me a way to release all the various darknesses that had plagued me at times -- without that initial push, without DudeMan dragging me over here, and without me getting lost in Gaian, I don't know if I'd be writing as I am today. So, from my heart: thank you, Xorlak, and thank you, everyone who had made DAL the experience that it was. I don't know where you all are now, but I know that in my memory, you will remain forever.

Nice story man! I understand exactly what you mean with tk impacting you. There truly is something special about it that keeps pulling you back into it. Big shame that tk3 consists of so many bugs and that tk2 is no longer supported on the website together with a mass loss of resources on the website.

I wish the old suggestion/general/offtopic message board still existed that the old tk had. I lost track of the old website again, it used to be yukon.sytes and when ms hosted it was rpgtoolkit.net. I know I asked this many times before but where can I find it now?

And also, does this page still exist? http://mrgoldsoft.mysticsoftware.net/

http://www.cywh.com looks a bit different xD

Edit: yey I registered 3 days before you on ms forum :P

Cool!

I remember I first messed with TK with a Win 98 machine too, around December 2000 or so.  I didn't do serious production until six months later when I got my own Windows ME machine all to myself. (90% of Dark Age was a summer vacation project. ;)) Was version 2.15, I think.

Keep in touch!

General Discussion / 10 years in the TK community
« Last post by TK Game Boy on December 29, 2011, 12:50:47 PM »

On December 24th, I have become 10 years old on the RPGToolkit comminty. Don't know if that is the exact date but I remembered one day, a long time ago, that I wanted to figure out when I came into the RPGTK community and looked at my old account way back on the old RPGToolkit.com site, the one when CBM was at the helm and I recalled it said 12/24/01. So yes, it's been 10 years and so much has changed. In fact, too much has changed. The new TKZ is new and improved but, man, the community is different. And this place is now a museum of the old TK community, which I feel like talking about (I feel a bit nostalgic right now).

I've told this story before but it was a long time, so I feel like refreshing myself. In August 2001, my parents bought our first computer. I don't know why but they did. It had Win98 and sometime later we got internet. All I did was play RuneScape on it and back then thought it was the greatest game in the world, probably because it was the only game I played at the time (I didn't had any video game consoles back then). I was such a big fan of RuneScape that I wanted to check out sites and one site that was called RuneScape Hall caught my attention and spend alot of time in the site. In this website there were links to the bottom that could've been an ad but am not sure. It was for a site called RPGMaker.net, a database for RPG making engines. I was still new to video games so I did not knew what a RPG was. But I checked out the site and it gave me choices on what engine I wanted to use and decided to go with RPGToolkit, and I feel in love with it the first time I downloaded it. It was version 2.1 or something like that and I spent like 4 months making and completing a game. Those were good times. And sometime on December I joined the TK community.

And that is pretty much my story, and you know, the TK community is still the only community online that I have high regards for. That was my second online community that I joined and I thought back then that every forum was going to be like that. It's been 10 years and I have yet to find another community as close as the RPGToolkit. Though it is slow now, it's still has some of the oldbies from way back then. Not many online communities have people like that. But not just people but product as well. We have a library of games that, though are now old and outdated, are still part of the community. Maybe it has something to do with the oldbies attachment to their creations because I've been to other communities where the games or whatever product was created was left on the site, never to be talked about again. Other sites have tried to get recognition to their products but to no success.

I could talk all day about the old RPGToolkit but, it's all just nostalgia now. The new TKZ, which is nice, it's not the same thing. Heck, the reason why I'm posting this on MS is because this is the last remnant of the old RPGToolkit community, and it shows. The new TKZ is now of the future, whatever future it is.

Well that's pretty much what I wanted to say. I'm 10 years oldbie in the TK community, had some great times but the times have changed. Everything has changed, and yet my home button on my browser, after 10 years, still links to rpgcommunity, even if I don't visit it. That just shows how much this community has impacted me.

See ya later.

Dark Age Games / Re: DALpedia updates
« Last post by Xorlak on December 02, 2011, 02:14:27 PM »
Realized when I took down the server MS was hosted on earlier this year, I never updated this topic. Ooops!  I moved DALpedia over to http://dalpedia.xorlak.com/ a ways back. But it was actually down for the past few months after a server upgrade left the way-too-old MediaWiki installation non-functional.  But I just put it back up today in a static, non-editable HTML form to be archived forever.

Enjoy!

Cool. Thanks again for the hosting!

For the record, the forums here are still on my server. I have too much invested here to let them go. ;)

I see that someone took the hosting off of Xorlak's hands and reopened site functions! Sweet.
You can point the old downloads to my server all you want. I offered to host the files with that in mind. :) I don't have to worry about bandwidth or anything, so you really don't need to download and host them all here if it's too big of a hassle.

Anyways, if hosting ever becomes a problem again, I'll host it for free. :)
