Yeah, Neo IS a savior, Morpheus - hmm, I'm not sure.
Gnosticism differs from christiany in that there are 2 powers ruling the world (dualism) - good (God) and evil (Satan), always fightning and the world is a cross of good and evil. Compare to to eastern Yin and Yang or ancient persian mazdaism. In christianity, God is the only thing that created the world, and Satan IS the evil, but he has no power over the world (he isn't a creator).
In Matrix, the Architect (the God, Satan or whatever) is not a good being - I believe in gnosticism God created soul and Satan created body, and body (the matrix) was a trap which humans had to escape. Neo is the savior that has to free people from the cables connecting them to matrix.
Btw. it is theoreticaly possible to make humans batteries like robots did in matrix - in fact, it's a brilliant idea. Altrough it's not too humanitary to pass. Human organism is basicaly INFINITE generator of electricity and warmth, one adult human's organism produces around 50 watts of power!
If you seen third part, note that the large robot "cannons" which spawned the squids had engines in which there were humans trapped, as they shooted humans - the batteries - were swimming in the red slime like Neo was in first matrix.

In first Matrix, time between Neo's death and his coming back to life is 72 seconds. 72 hours is 3 days. Jesus was dead for 3 days before he ressurected.
