Yep, I STILL live in Poland.
Telling the mayor would be hard, he's deaf, dumb and paralyzed, communicated with the rest of world telepathicaly (he got KGB training when he was 2 years old)...
Compared to other sci-fi stuff, ressurection is also a possibility. Life is nothing more than an illusion created by a setting of cells, nerves, veins, synapses and the rest... If it can be broken, it can also be brang back... But I hope this would cause church and several other religion societies (buddhists with their reincarnation) to declare absolute war on ressurection...
I am also afraid of genetics... Let's say now they can make bacterias with born self-destruction ability after some period of time, or viruses resistant to some antibiotics... In nature, there are strange animals like beetles who can blow themselves up, or snakes with infravision (seeing in infrared)... Combine both and soon we're gonna make living weapons of war, armed with echolocation, super-senses, witch ability to explode after a set period of time... But, no. Wait. I don't believe it would ever be possible. Very Happy
As I already talk about sci-fi stuff, perhaps that's a lame example, but one of best game stories based on future belonged to Fallout. The world created was based on peoples' beliefs in 50' years (I mean, instead of nuclear winter there was a radiated wasteland which mutaded beings). There were several excellent plots, quite possible, like using a modified form of virus to empower cells (virus invaded cells, changing them), to make them resistant to radiation and other viruses. In effect, virus changed a whole organism, making it quite, hmm, united, with nearly every cell the same. This was used by Master - a former man, telepath, to which telepathy was a kind of curse and changed him into beast it was - which had fanatical cause of making "one race" from all the living things in earth.
And oooh, the sweet ending when player told him the truth, his race was sterile...
Ability to multi-time stream? Pretty interesting. Smile
Yeah, yeah. All the problems of a current man - what an ugly fact. Our ancestors fought for fire, now we have almost everything and we have extremely, well, stupid problems.
That I hate in modern civilization... Easiness. As it was described in Jurassic Park (book by Chrishton, not the movie), science is sort of power gained like Saturday Night's special, instantly. That's why it is so abused. Seen the movie "Cast Away"? There is a pretty cool scene where the hero finally creates a fireplace from wood, grasps and flaming log, dances around, laughing like God after the creation - "Do you see what have I created? I crated FIRE!"
