With the recent death of rpgtoolkit.com, and the Bx4 forums barely on the horizon, I'll probably start spending a bit more time here in the near future. I've even made these forums my Home Page in IE (used to be rpgtoolkit.com). As such, I may start adding some resources to the site as well. Apparently we still arn't even recognized as a resource site on TKZ, though one of our departments is. It's odd how many times I have to reitterate that The Shack is not a resource site in itself... I hesitate deleting it's sub-domain only because of the many links to it. Though re-direction may be a plan. Also, considering the lack of active users at the moment, all the off-topic posts in the General forum are just fine, but if the site starts getting more active in the future, I'll have to start asking you to keep them to the off-topic section of the forums. I don't think you guys will have a problem with that though, your all pretty cool. This probably won't be happening any time soon anyways. Other than that, I appreciate every one of you continuing to come here and keeping this site on life support. It means a lot to me.
*crys* thats...so...so...touching...WAHHHH!! ok enoguh of that...ill always be here...ive been here since 2002 (i think like september or october)

Spyder, rpgtoolkit.com isn't dead at all. The TKZ site is now rpgtoolkit.coms site. Maybe if I changed the TKZ banner to "rpgtoolkit.com" then you wouldn't get so negative.

When the time comes for Spyder, one of the longest serving community members, to help out CBM...he fails him by talking doom and gloom.

Cheer up, mate.
I disagree. Chris took down rpgtoolkit.com and is just posting the latest news at TKZ. rpgtoolkit.com is merely redirecting to TKZ, but TKZ isn't rpgtoolkit.com. Chris should've never taken down the site. What exactly is the point of doing that? Because he doesn't update much? Who cares! He's not going to update much on TKZ either. How am I supposed to help out CBM by the way? As far as TKZ getting picked over MS, I've already said I'm not surprised. Everyone knows that would've been the better choice.

Xorlak. I agree with you that theres no need for the two sites to be rivals. It would be a pointless rivalry anyways. I'm all for a PHP MS as well. Matt and Mike have started a couple of designs, but neither have finished anything. As for automatic game uploading, this may not be the best idea. We're fairly limited on space, and we can't have people just uploading anything and everything. Which games have I missed by the way? I wasn't aware anyone had released any games in like...a year.

As for TKZ's games section...I don't see how it could be any different than MS's other than being PHP, but I'll guess we'll have to see what happens with it. It'll be interesting nonetheless.

Haraldur and Cesque...is there a topic that you guys can reply to without it going towards a completely different subject?  Razz

Matt72186 emailed me today. He suggested seperating MS Games from Mystic Software, and doing away with trying to be a resource site, and focusing more on games, as well as gaming sites. Providing scripts and such for the community to make better sites, etc. Such as the tileset viewer he and Cyranoid have been developing. I'm all for adding the scripts part to the site, but I'm not going to split MS in two. It's hard enough just to convince people that The Shack isn't a seperate site. I'm also not going to drop resources. We've always been a resource site, and always will be. Just because TKZ is larger doesn't mean we should just give up. I'm sure TKZ doesn't have an unlimited amount of webspace, and there are plenty of resources out there that both sites can be up and help the community.

Well, I was talking about competition and how that might relate to this situation.

If we had different Shacks for different parts of MS, it might persuade people that they are all connected and so all MS, as well as maybe sparking more interest as they are a new idea: each place has either all the graphics you need or all the tutorials.

I reckon the reason that TKZ is winning is because much has happened fast, they have a beautiful new site, many people from the community have become involved and they are new, and people are curious.

The side effects of MS being old is that people are not curious about it any more, but if its structure radically changes, then it might catch people's attention, it would be like a shopping centre with many different specialist shops.

Actually, chris changed the rpgtoolkit.com nameservers to point to TKZ, they are just yet to propogate.

So in fact, it is rpgtoolkit.com...heh

Chill.

Other than being PHP... to me, that's a HUGE difference, especially with just the amount of PHP the games section will feature once Vampz completes it.

Sorry Spyder, but the Games section will soon be the best part of TKZ (except the forums of course Very Happy), so to try to only compete with that is... well, stupid.

I suggest you wait a few days and see how the Games section over at TKZ turns out.  If it's half as good as Vampz has told me, you won't be able to compete with it...

I am sure competition is possible: monopolies are seldom good for anyone.

Hmm...I guess I just don't see how good a games section can get...theres only so much content you can add. Just because it's automated doesn't make it a thousand times better... Also, as I mentioned before, people have been working on a PHP Mystic Software. Matt assured me today that he was still planning on continuing his work on it. Again, I'm not trying to directly compete with TKZ. As mentioned above competition is inevitable, but I'm not going to be advertising what MS has over TKZ, etc, or why we're "better". I will be trying to get things TKZ doesn't have, because it would be pointless for the two sites to have the exact same resources.

Haraldur, TKZ is larger because it is managed better. It's also not much younger than Mystic Software. It started in 2001 as well if I remember correctly. Actually Mystic Software's birthday is tomarrow =P. At any rate, when TKZ was first created a lot more people went there over MS then as well. It has nothing to do with TKZ being new...especially since it's not new. Chris chose TKZ as the new home of the TK because he knows he can trust Vampz to keep the site regularly updated, etc. I don't really have that kind of dedication. Also, as far as having "different shacks"; lately I've been debating on whether or not to even keep the shack name. If the site goes PHP, this almost definately won't happen.

As far as TKZ being rpgtoolkit.com, there's no reason to have two names for your site. IMO you should pick one and just stick with it. Obviously it's your site and you can call it whatever you want, but until the banner reads rpgtoolkit.com, I, and everyone else, will always call it The Toolkit Zone.
