Draven, still burning with flame, landed in the house from the hole above.

"C-CALM DOWN?!  You brazen old fool!!!"

He lifted his right arm as if to backhand the old man across the chin, but restrained himself, dispersing his aura of flame in the process.

"Ehrm..."

He folded his arms and turned to Zeros'.

"Yes... there's something down there...  something was released when the weapons shattered... Its energy signal is so similar... it must be what Retan was seeking with the weapons."

He stepped to the hole in the floor, which was now caved in and only went down a few yards.

"Hmmm, whatever it was, it appears to be trapped for the moment..."

Still, it was growing stronger...

Zion tilted to the side, letting the swing go by, then bringing his knee up towards Maxwell's gut.

No, Haraldur thought, I have taken the edge off my hunger, I need something larger...

He looked towards the nearest forest, and walked to and into it. He roared a roar of challenge, and a strange beast appeared. The beast had no definite shape, whenever you looked at it all you would see would be random parts of different animals and plants stuck together, fur and leaves, in one myriad of forest images. It rushed towards him, now owning a fur covered arm which held a tree branch.

They fought. The beast's arm was cut off by the sword, leaving blood, or sap, everywhere. The beast closed its wound, got another arm with a branch and attacked again. They carried on fighting.

A few minutes later, with the whole area covered in a mixture of blood and sap, the beast ran away. Haraldur pursued, carrying two severed arms, one in each hand, waving them like clubs and trying to hit the beast.

They chased.

Zeros' frowned and looked at the tunnel for a moment before glancing upwards.

"Yes...now it seems trapped...but it is growing stronger with each passing minute..." Zeros' said slowly. "What should we do about Haraldur though?"

The beast ran off a cliff, and Haraldur followed, slowing his fall so that he landed softly by the body of the beast, which still was indistinct. The soul was there, staring blankly. He grabbed hold of it, then absorbed it into himself.

Around him, the forest withered and died, leaving the stench of rotting wood and flesh.

"I recomend some of us split up." Duilin subjested "Let's see, there's me, Ryu, Zeros', Rink, The Prophet and *ahem* Draven. Three of us should go stop Haraldur and three of us make sure, whatever is in that tunnel, dosen't get out."

Duilin, swung his Claymore in the air. "Unless someone else has a better idea?"

Rink shruged and then looked at the rest.

------

Maxwell, grabed his gut as Zion kneed it. "Ooof!" He then, gave an enraged look at Zion. He picked up a crumbled rock from the wall and tossed it at Zion.

(Today is DAL's 1 year anniversary!  Heh...)

Draven smirked.

"You call him Haraldur, huh?  Ah yes, his 'prince' name.  I'm guessing you don't know much about who he really is, do you?  Of course not.  Goody-goodies like you wouldn't have helped him at all if you knew what he does for kicks..."

(Note that Draven never caught the whole fusion thing, and thinks the original Haraldur and Ragnar are and always were the same person.)

"Ragnar is of minor concern.  He told me himself the weapons will not grant him additional power.  He is a coward who loves chaos and destruction, but only if he is in control.  A slippery one, at that.  When confronted with a threat of equal or greater power, he will use his magic to distract and flee.  Reminds me of a lightning mage I once knew...  His spells are mostly wide spread, meaning they are more effective against a group than a single target.  Seriously, that haggard beard is rather unbecoming as well..."

He nodded at Zeros'.

"Fly-boy over here and myself together are more than capable of killing him.  The rest of you are liable to get killed and should just go home..."

Draven stared at the hole a second before an evil grin crossed his face.  He eyed the prophet.

"What were you babbling about earlier? 'The Light'?  Is this girl the final piece to the puzzle that he seeks?  Let's just kill her..."

//Just to make sure everyone is clear, it was a fusion of three, Haraldur, the Prince, another Haraldur who had his name because his parents like naming their children after kings, and Ragnar, the madman. However, all three were insane, to varying degrees. What we have now, is a more powerful madman.//

The Great Prophet looked upon Draven with unconcealed scorn, and said, "The Bitter One has no knowledge of the girl, and at present that is a good thing. The girl is something totally other, of which I will not go into now.

"Yes, the weapons do not grant him additional power, the was and always was and will be his, they would just drain him whenever they were used, and by their existance. He failed to destroy them, because there are other parts of him he is yet to find for him to be come his complete self. So, he remains at liberty to split up whenever he wishes.

"The reason his spells are usually over a large area is that he likes to see the damage to the surroundings. One of his incarnations once covered the whole of Romme with winter, I believe, causing many innocents to die in the process. We are not dealing with a sane human being."

"I see..." Zeros' said quietly. "I agree with Draven though. Even as strong as Haraldur is, he probably couldn't handle either me or Draven alone, let alone us together. As for Haraldur being sane, I agree with the Prophet." Zeros' crossed his arms and closed his eyes while flapping his wings, sighing.

"Now we have a problem as to where Haraldur is..." Zeros' said idly.

As Zion's foot hit Maxwells face, he fell over. He then recovered and then swung his hand at him, if he were to hit, he would grab his oppenet. And he about big enough to lift him.

----

"From the start, I knew there was something strange about him, but I thought I was just paranoid." Duilin sighed "Well, yes. You and Draven can fend off against Haraldur, Rink, you didn't happen to see were he went?"

"There was a village, not to far awake." Rink says, as he points to a smokey area in the distance. "He...messed the place up...you guys should start your search there."

"Allright, good. Zeros' maybe you and Draven could start your search there..." Duilin said. "I'll protect the others, if anything comes out of there, or something. Ever since the Necrodragon, I don't trust strange portals leading to random places anymore. I'm getting stronger then I was before."

Rink, gulps and grinds his teeth, he seems to be abit nervous about the entire situation. Ever since he left hell, he has feared his new mortality.

Draven smirked (again).

"Well now, sanity is only a point of view from a certain perspective..."

He turned to Duilin, assuming a much more serious tone.

"I don't know what's down there, but if anything comes out of that hole... kill it immediately...  if you can, that is.  I don't trust it without the Emperor..."

He jumped straight up, flying out of the hole in the roof and stopping some 30 feet above.  There was indeed a faint plume of smoke in the northwestern horizon.  He shouted to Zeros':

"Coming?"

A crimson aura engulfed the man once more and he sped off through the sky.

A temporary alliance... that is all.  Just as two nations ally to destroy a third, before plotting to destroy each other.  Yes, that is all...

To the Southeast, Haraldur saw a faint glow of red. Idiot... he thought, Draven always was ostentatious. I do not want to be entertaining him tonight, he is a bad houseguest. I prefer visiting him.

Bleh...

He rose up, on a level with the faint light in the sky, and sent a fireball towards it, as a warning shot. Then he moved eastwards, at speed.

I can kill a forest, now for the remnant of a continent...
