LOL, yeah. Hey, guys, I had to write an essay on courtesy for the belt test. I'm gonna post it here; let me know what u think:
Courtesy goes beyond proper etiquette and good manners, but rather, is about respecting those around you. When one shows courtesy to another, positive relationships build, and friendships may eventually form. Such relationships form a healthy environment for not just an individual, but for those surrounding him or her as well.
To me, courtesy is more than just a virtue?but a key part of my character. By respecting others, I have gained the respect of many around me. Respect has nothing to do with whether or not someone is stronger than you, that is fear. Respect has to do with a person's character, their virtues. Every day, no matter what, I am able to greet everyone with a smile on my face. I help people without being asked when I have the chance.
By saying please and thank you to someone, you increase their opinion of you, even if it is just slightly. It adds up. However, refusing to be courteous can lower an individual's opinion of you. Basically, courtesy can be a double-edged sword; beneficial if practiced, and harmful if neglected.
What is courtesy? Courtesy is the true foundation of all positive relationships.
What do you think?
