I personally think that Square shouldn't charge so much! Otherwise I'd buy the game!
Think about it. If you want to seriously play a MMORPG, your usually going to spend a good deal of hours playing it. Games like Metal Gear Solid cost $50 and are ~10 hours of gameplay. That comes to ~$5/hour of play once you've finished the game. With MMORPG's, with the game costing about $50 initially, and $13 a month say for, a year, that comes to about $17.17 a month if you play for one year. Say you played a mere hour per day, which is nothing compared to what most people play with MMORPG's, it would still only cost you a mere $0.57/hour of game play, and I guarantee you won't come close to beating the game in that amount of time, and even if you did come close, by that time a $20-$30 expansion would be released (ie "FFXI:Chains of Promethia") and give you even more gameplay.
Which is the better value?
Aside from cheap gameplay you get a great game that lets you team up with people you know, and knew people as well. Everyone likes to chat. Just take a look at all the applications that let you chat with people such as these forums, chat rooms, and instant messagers. Now you have a game that lets you play with thousands of people and chat with them to. Metal Gear Solid (and other games) won't let you do that.
