what underhanded activities? When did this happen? Where did this happen? How did this happen?

Was the site attacked by bots from outer space?

Bingo. Spambots! Everywhere! Well just the OTR forums, but a couple leaked into the General Off-Topic.

From CNN.com

Yesterday it was discovered that a group of vicious spambots, possibly from outer space, had infiltrated the thought to be abandoned OT Republic Alliance sector of Mystic Software?s elite forums, where they had begun a self contained breeding and replication cycle.  Here they spawned unchecked for days, possibly weeks, until their presence was alerted to the Dark Emperor Xorlak by a forumer who took a wrong turn and ran into the disgusting creatures in a back alley.  ?They tried to set up us the bomb, but we got signal,? Xorlak later commented.  Recruiting the help of the ninja pirate Dude Man and the necromancer D. Ein, the trio infiltrated the enemy hive at midnight and began to rain unholy death upon the necrophagous bots for a period of three hours.  The battle swiftly ended when Xorlak threw his Mega-Death Annihilation Attack down upon the enemy base, which entirely obliterated the OT Republic Alliance forum along with the rest of Mystic Software.  Fortunately Xorlak was able to load a recent backup and all was restored.

In response to yesterday?s events, Xorlak has ordered the Spambot Alert Level to be raised from cerulean to fuchsia  and has disabled guest posting in the forums.

Lol.  Like I go to the OTR much, anyway, but hey, it's nice to know that it will be spam free the next time I decide to tread into such dangerous territory. Razz
