Hello, got a question
« on: July 07, 2007, 01:59:50 PM »
Hey, been a long time since I've visited here.  Just dropping by to ask some stuff about toolkit 3 and if it's worth my time to get back into it (only ever used tk2 back in the day).  I've been having nothing but problems with it since I started messing with it, to get the feel of how it's different.  It seems much less stable than tk2 with the random things it's doing - like every time I create a new enemy or player and try to save it, it freezes and has to be alt-f4'd.  Then it won't let me back into the toolkit after, so I have to cut out the resource files, delete everything else, remake the main game file, then put the resources back in.  It works fine after that until I try to save another enemy/player.  It also doesn't do this if I copy+paste previously made enemies/characters into the resources with new names, then edit them inside the toolkit.

There's also some issues with how long it takes to load anything after it goes into maximized mode for all the little windows I have open inside it.  Actually, the editor is pretty laggy in general compared with what I was used to in TK2.  What I'd like to know is if any of you guys are experiencing issues like this, what you did to get around them, or if I should just go back to familiar territory with TK2 (but TK3 has so many cool features I don't understand!).

Thanks for reading this, and for your support in the past (props to anyone who remembers).

Hmmm, you may want to take your issues to the TK folks on their bug board.  There are some stability issues, but nothing like you've described has happened to me.

That said, you'd definitely want to get into TK3 over TK2 if you can get it running on your system, as it's a lot more powerful.  TK2 was great, but it doesn't quite match up anymore.

Alright I'll go over there once the registration goes through (24 hour wait O.o) and stick it out with TK3.

Oh and Xorlak you're still my hero BTW.

Xorlak is MY hero too. Seriously, how could you not love him? I'd totally date Xorlak if I was a woman or gay.

Anyways, back on topic. I noticed TK3 had millions of problems on my old computer (Win98SE) but had much less problems on my new current computer (WinXPHE). But yeah the full screen mode bug that makes it unable to reopen if you alt+f4, is a pretty infamous bug that apparently hasn't been fixed. Hopefully, they'll find a way to fix it...

Yeeeeaaaaa I'll try it on another computer.  I think a bigger problem for me to overcome will be my inability to understand methods (not a good thing when trying to make your own custom systems).

Ummm... I think I know what your problem is, because a while ago... I had a crap load (100's) of pictures in my bitmap folder. And when I would start up RPGTK, it would be "non-responsive" for about 3 min. then It would be fine. That's becuase it was loading up all the folders for my game. my solution: don't have so many pictures or move them, then start up, and then put them back.

DM: You're crazy, but yeah... you're crazy...

Anyways, I've had similar complications on my old Windows ME. The main reason being is that ME just sucks period, and that I had way too much data on that computer.
