"How'd I end up doing this chore?" Quad asked himself, as he struggled to get through the tight passage ways. The heat increased for every foot he managed to get in. The humidity was unbearable for a regular person but for Quadirecentennial, who assumed was regular physically, was not affected by it. He was started to question himself again, whether or not he was something completely different. As he continued to progress through the cave, he came to the end of the passageway, where there was a gigantic cave that was empty. "Where is the foul beast? I don't see him." Another screach from the bird filled the air. "He is further down but I can't tell if he is close."

Panic engulfed the streets...

"What are those?!"

"Can it be?!"

"By the gods!!"

Three gargantuan black airships slowly rolled in over the skies of the capital city of Tjed, their huge guns turned down upon the buildings below.    The deep rumblings from their engines sent vibrations throughout Tjedon and the entire surrounding valley.  They hovered directly over the center of town, though they were massive enough so that nothing was safe from the shadow cast by their forms...

----

"They have arrived."  Anslem said as he performed a short bow to Virmir's right.  The rumblings permeated every stone of the old castle.  Virmir turned to Duilin.

"We have our own plan to deal with Draven.  Tjed now belongs to the Dark Empire.  Leave immediately.  Should you attempt to intervene, blood will be shed."

With that, the silver fox shot into the air and disappeared out the window.  All of his entourage followed except for Renard, who lingered for a moment.  His eyes were filled with anxiety, and he looked as if he had a hundred things to say, but he shook it off and darted after the rest of his squad, through the window high above...

----

The caves began to rumble.  Ven paused.

"What could that be...?"

It was too subtle to be an earthquake.  Far too long and drawn out to be an explosion.  He could only gulp and continue leading the way through the maze-like caverns...

----

Draven leaned forward.  Gone was his normal mocking sneer.  In its place only a dire seriousness. "I don't think you realize what a Draken is...   They are dragons, not mere mammals or lizards.  When they perish, their spirits do not descend to the known underworld or some place in the sky... They die differently.   And they are so much more than dragons...  No one knows what they are exactly, or where they came from.  No one."

He finished off the rest of his wine in one gulp and slammed the goblet down on the table.

"Do not try to resurrect a Draken.  Ever.  It has never been done before, and I do not want to see what happens.  They are abominations that are best left dead and forgotten.  And your sword analogy is moot.  Retan does not play with natural weapons..."

He whipped his lips with his glove, thinking for a moment as his confidence and grin returned.

"Besides, I have a better plan."

He quickly whipped a dagger from behind his back and jammed the blade into the table, producing a dull noise that echoed loudly throughout the chamber.  The weapon was beautifully ornate, with a dull yellow gem upon the hilt...

"Once upon a time, Retan wanted Six Weapons...  He wanted them so badly, that he left his old cheery capital and personally came to the island of Romme when the last one was within his grasp.  This is one of them.  He has since lost interest in them because some bearded freak with split personality disorder screwed up their auras or something.  What happened to that man I do not know.  My only guess is that he confronted Retan and got blasted into oblivion, and the weapons were scatted once more.  Retan is currently in possession of two.  If we could locate the remaining three, we might gain his interest.  Then, of course, we'll be waiting for him..."

“Don’t even stop for your fallen comrade? That’s not very nice. I thought shadow mages were supposed to fight together?”

“Then why do you fight by your self?” One of the mages asked trying to be defiant.

“Ah, you caught me. Most shadow mages do fight alone. Thank you for playing, and have a nice day.” Druid then blasted the mage who died on impact.

"Six weapons, eh? Interesting.

-"Good. I can use my minions to scour the land in search of the weapons. I can look through their eyes personally, though looking through all of them at once might be cause for an overload of sorts... I will know when one has found something, though."

Whatever did Draven mean by "natural weapons?" In this world, everything's as natural as it gets, otherwise it would not be here. Hmm... I'll need to conduct research on that later.

Just then, the servant girl returned, and whispered something into my ear. Well, that was somewhat unforeseen.

-"By the looks of it, I wouldn't be able to bring Jayce back, anyways. I was only told that he was slain by two entities using strong spells... I was not aware of him not leaving any detectable corpse, which would make his zombification...problematic..."

-"At any rate, you said that Retan lost interest in the weapons. What makes you think that once we have them, he'll even go for us?"

"What?" Duilin asked in worry. He then started to feel a rumble. He dashed out of the banquet hall and through the castle until he came to main door way and exited the castle into the outside. The looked in the air as the shadow was cast over him, along with the rest of Tjedon. "No!!"

He started to run through the city, he didn't know what to do. He nearly panicked as he fell to his knees, he realized he was failing.

"Duilin!" Called Belle's voice as she ran towards him, along with Lagart and Rink.

"I...I've failed..." Duilin started to rub his temples. "Hardly anyone is left as it is and now...soon the entire kingdom is going to fall. I've failed to protect Tjed..."

"Everything isn't lost yet. Don't panic, Duilin." Rink said comforting. "Come on, you can save Tjed. You can transform into a super human again and create an uber shield around Tjedon."

"I...I can't...I don't know how I did it...it's like I wasn't even doing it when I did..." Duilin rolled over and lay flat on his back on the ground. "I'm no hero..."

"Damnit Duilin!" Rink snapped. "Now is not the time to be like this!"

Duilin looked at the imp in surprise.

"There is still a chance to save these people, and you're the only one strong enough to save them!" Rink shouted. "This is a war! People die in war, that's what it's about! You complaining about not being able to save anyone is just going to lead to more people getting killed! Now I'm going to tell you one last time before I make you!"

"Make me?" Duilin raised an eyebrow in curiosity in the imp's intents.

The imp began to charge fire in his hands. Ready to shoot, he aimed the fireball just a little south of Duilin's waist.

"I'm up! I'm up!" Duilin quickly got up onto his feet and Belle and Lagart laughed. Duilin rubbed his head. "Yeah, I guess I am being pretty stupid here. Okay, so if we can't save the castle and everyone's homes we can probably save the people by getting them into some underground bunker or something."

"I suggested that earlier. I don't know if Tjed has one, but if we can find something and get everyone inside then hopeful nobody would be hurt." Rink replied. "Plus, If this place does have any underground shelters then I'm sure any remaining guards will retreat the citizens into them."

"Well, what if there isn't anything like that then?" Belle asked.

"Well, we could try and get everyone into the caves..." Duilin thought.

"No! What if they see the people going in them and start firing upon the caves, then they'll cave in and everyone will be killed!" Rink stated.

"Well, first we need to make sure this place has an underground shelter or something." Duilin said. "And maybe...I could try and disable the airships somehow."

"How?" Lagart asked.

"Well...if I could get on board them, maybe I might be able to either hostage the crew, but they'll likely have a lot of guards, yet I might be able to take them all." Duilin answered. "And if they're automated by magic then uh...maybe I could try and disable it somehow. But I have no idea how to do something like that." He looked up at the airships. "Okay, we need to find out if there is a bunker or something for everyone to hide in, quickly lets go ask them!"

The group then dashed towards the group of panicking citizens.

A man approached Duilin and started to tug on his arm. "Sir Duilin! You saved us earlier, can you save us again! We beg of you!"

"Calm down, sir." Duilin replied. "If the gunships start shooting, you'll need shelter. Tell, me does Tjed have any underground shelters or any place that we can get everyone to hide in?"

//Xor-Guy should give the answer to this, because I have no idea.\

Ko'ji raced out of the window with the rest of the Velkens, save Renard. She stayed behind and waited for him to leave, and then followed him as he left the castle. They followed the rest of the group, ready to follow Virmir's orders...

"Underground shelters?"  The man nervously pondered for a moment.  "No, we have nothing of the sort.  The chapel hall and inner castle walls are the refuges during war, but I am afraid they may no longer be safe!  We are used to enemies from the land and seas.  Never had we expected ships from the sky!"

----

Blackwing Commander Vlak Gjinn of the Skyward Division clasped his scaly claws behind his back, flicking his reptilian tail back and forth as he watched the other two airships move into position from the deck of his own vessel.  Tjed offered no resistance at all as the mammoth cannons were trained upon the filthy mammals below.  He'd only need to give the word and this miserable city would be wiped into non-existence.

He wasn't a large Lizard Man by any standard.  Those mindless bruits were given their run as ground generals in Gorus' Subterranean Division.  But here in the much smaller Skyward Division his brilliant strategic mind was actually recognized, and he had earned enough respect to control a fleet of airships.  Though he didn't quite feel comfortable serving under a non-lizard, a mammal no less, he had to admit he would probably be nothing more than a field lieutenant under Gorus' or even the late Jayce's strength-rules-all doctrines.

"Commander, the High General approaches."

The lizards upon the deck bowed as the black blurs approached, flying right up to the deck.   The Commander stooped to one knee.

The entourage of Velkens landed on the ship deck, their glances cold and hard.  They were tiny things compared to the massive lizards.

"My lord," Commander Vlak began, "give the word, and we shall be rid of this city forever."

Virmir boldly stepped up to the scaly airship commander, his tail indignantly waving behind him.

"Commander, you will not fire unless I explicitly tell you to.  Is that understood?"

"Yes, sir."

"Furthermore, your soldiers will not attack the humans unless attacked first."

"Forgive me, my lord, I thought we were here for an extermination...?"

"I do not recall giving you permission to question my orders."  The fox retorted coldly.

"Apologies... permission to speak freely?"

"Denied."

The lizard's eyes went wide.  Virmir ignored him and spun around, pointing to the Velkens lined up behind him.  "Anslem, Helix, Renard..." his eyes scanned the stiffened faces for a moment before falling on the newcomer, "... Riuki, you four will guard the south city gate.  No one may leave or enter."

"Yes, my lord." the three veterans said in unison.  They jumped right off the ship, hooking downwards and speeding towards the front gates of Tjedon.

Virmir turned back towards the lizard commander.  "Commander, you will deploy your men and infiltrate every corner of the city.  This is an occupation.  You will only kill those that resist.  Is that understood?"

"Yes, my lord..."

"Excellent.  We will be watching..."

The remaining seven Velkens darted into the air, forming a wide circle high above the airship.  Vimir extended his hand.

"Give me the ship's voice projector."

One of the lizards scampered off and returned with a glowing green stone.  "Merely speak into this, my lord."

Virmir took it and shot 200 feet above the airship, stopping when he could see the entirety of the city below.

"Citizens,"  the silver fox's voice boomed throughout the whole valley.  "Your king is dead, and Tjed now belongs to the Dark Empire."  The bottoms of the airships opened, and Lizard Men parachuted out, landing in the streets by the scores.  Wyverns emerged from the decks and began circling.   "The city is now under martial law.  Cooperate, and this transition will be made as painless as possible.  Resist, and you will be killed."

----

Draven leaned back.

"I have reason to believe he is gaining interest in them once more.  My sources indicate that he explicitly sent one of his High Generals on a mission to obtain the second one that is now in his possession.  Perhaps collecting the rest for him will remind him of his former obsession.  Of course, he may send minions out to try to take them from us, but Jayce was his strongest warrior, and with him out of the picture, we shouldn't have much trouble beating back whatever he sends until he decides to show his own face..."

"Yes, my lord." Ko'ji leapt off the ship and hovered swiftly to the ground, keeping up it the other three. Before she knew it the other three stopped and she was barely able to stop along with them... this must be the gate they were told to protect. Why didn't the emporer do this instead? it seemed to be a more effective way of taking a city, rather than ground troops, who'd likely be met on the field with other ground troops...

"Let's try not to kill anyone... If they get near the gates, shove them far away..." Ko'ji readied her magical dager and her scimitar. The battle wasn't quite upon the city yet, but it was nearing...

Voices of fear and panic went through the crowds. Children started crying and asking their parents what was going to happen, even some grown men started to begging Duilin and Lagart for protection. However not everyone was asking for protection, a few men went towards Duilin with angry looks on their faces.

“How could you have let this happen?” One of the men scolded

“You promised to protect us and now we have been captured by the empire with our king dead.” Another man added.

“If Ven or Zeros’ were here, they likely wouldn’t have let this happen.”

“I…I’m sorry.” Duilin said, not even defending himself. “I’ve tried, but I failed. I’m sorry…”

“Don’t listen to them Duilin.” Belle said comforting him.

“Yeah, buzz of guys!” Rink snapped.

“What are you gonna do?” One of the men said. “All is lost, because of your pathetic protection!”

Lagart stepped forward and the three men backed away. “Leave alone!” He growled, and the men continued to back away.

“Thanks, Lagart.” Duilin said. “But those guys are right. If Zeros’ was here, he’d likely not have allowed this to happen.”

“Don’t say that Duilin.” Rink flapped his wings and hovered in the air at Duilin’s eye level. “These ships came out of nowhere; nobody could have stopped this from happening.”

“So, what we do?” Lagart asked.

“I don’t know…” Duilin said unhappily as he looked around at the lizard men guarding nearly every area. “If we start fighting, that will likely put the citizens in risk. There was barely enough room for that fight against those bogus angels and there are way more lizard men. I could try and get into one of the airships and try something, but I’d be too obvious to spot, especially with those wyverns all around.”

“Yeah, you’d be too obvious.” Rink said. “But they might not notice me. I could sneak into one of them, and maybe sabotage them a bit, enough to hinder them but maybe not enough for them to suspect anything.”

“That’s a good idea, but how would that help?” Duilin asked.

“Well, it’s something. If I could maybe disable their weapons that could help, but if I do that too all three of them, they will defiantly suspect something.”

“What good is that going to do?” Duilin retorted “There would still be two other ships, and a bunch of lizard men all around.”

“Well, do you have a better idea?” Rink asked.

A lizard man approached the group pointing at Lagart. “Hey you!”

Lagart noticed the lizard man pointing at him. “What?”

“I didn’t ssee you come down with everyone elsse. You’re not even in uniform? What’ss you’re name, rank and classs?”

“Lagart, Lieutenant, B-Class.” Lagart responded.

“Ssory ssir.” The lizard man replied. “But may I ask why you’re not in uniform?”

“Because generals say I don’t have to. Go away.” Lagart commanded. “I’ve got these people under watch.”

The lizard man nodded and backed away.

“They think you’re one of them.” Belle whispered. “Why did he show you so much respect?”

“He one of those fake egg ones.” Lagart replied. “He know I better.”

“Yeah, but how did he buy such a dumb excuse like ‘the generals said I don’t have too’?” Duilin asked.

“Because they even dumber then me.” Lagart gave a smirk.

“We might be able to use this to our advantage.” Rink pondered out loud.

“Yeah.” Duilin replied. “I wonder if Ven has returned from Arosis yet. I’ve got a lot of explaining to do.”

Ben eyed back down at the city just before he was going to make his way into asgard. He couldn't leave without letting Tjed die. Three airships were afloat just under him. He flew a bit higher in the air, and readied his fists, then punched them forwards with blazing speed.

"DAWN OF THE PHOENIX" Ben shouted as he was raging back down. He hit one of the three airships, but it had little to no effect... The magic power on one of these things must have been great. He leapt off, knowing he could do nothing. He flew back down and landed near Duilin, Lagart, Rink, and Belle.

"There's got to be a way to disable those ships. In the mean time, let no harm come to these people." Ben whiped his hand to his side and burst out another energy sword. He took up a fighting stance as he stood near by.

------------

At the end of the cave, there was an opening of light. The party sped to the entrance and finally entered the valley where Tjedon lay within the mountains. Up above were three large airships, casting shadows upon the city.

"What the hell... INVADERS!!!" Justin ran up ahead and gazed back up at the sky.

"Airships... dammit... There's almost no way of stopping those! If only Draven were here. I've seen these in my time working with the dark empire. Powered by magic, yes. just about unstoppable..."

"That's the least of our problems right now. The gates are blocked by four Velkens. Not to mention the sky is filled with lizardmen working with the dark empire. Looks like we're in for a rough time before we even make it there." Dori pulled out her assassin's claws and readied herself for battle.

"A bleak outlook... These are lizardmen. I don't think even half of them can be above B-class." Valiko readied his sword once more. It was still drawn from the earlier skirmish. Lizardmen poured from the sky. the fields were crowded with a scaly green and dark armored creatures.

"This... should be fun..." Tiberius remarked quickly after pulling out his claymore, "Ven, it would be wise to draw a weapon."

"Ben! Don't!" Duilin shouted as he saw him in the air. "I don't want anyone to get hurt!"

As he landed near by him, Duilin stepped in front of him, as several lizard man warriors stepped closer towards the group and near by citizens began to panic. One of the lizard men smacked a man who was in his way onto the ground.

"Ben! Cut it out, listen we can't fight here. People are going to get hurt if we start fighting. We need to act quietly and you blazing in here and starting a huge ruckus isn't going to help anything, it's just going to make situations worse."

As the lizard men came closer, Lagart stepped behind Ben and put his hands on his shoulders and Duilin backed away.

"Lower your weapon." Lagart commanded. He then looked up at the lizard warriors coming closer. "I take care of this one."

Duilin sent a telepathic message to Bjendell.

'Please, just play along.'

Duilin sighed and put his hands into his pockets. He felt something new was in there, he took out a piece of paper folded up in his pocket and unfolded it. It was a note.

'North Point. Portal.

-R
'

"Hmmm..." Duilin folded the note and put it back in his pocket.

*Fine. I don't expect you know how to destroy one of those ships...*Ben said back through his mind. He held his right hand up and the energy lowered back into his body. He lowered his hands and just stood there, waiting for something to happen... something in their favor.

The more deeper he went in, the higher the heat rose. It was getting extremly hot. Too hot for any person to survive but Quadricentennial was nowhere near dying. He was, in fact, just as vigorous as when he went in. The heat of the cave was not doing anything to him. This was strange indeed. Now Quadricentennial knew he wasn't a regular human. He knew that no human or animal and few beast could endure this extreme heat that could melt the most well made weapon. No wonder the town feared the beast. With this much heat, the town could be engulfed in flames should the bird rise out of it's cave. Quadricentennial ventured on, still not finding any sing of the beast.

“Well this is getting really boring, and you four think you can stop me? The all powerful Druid. You four insignificant mages?” Druid was passing back and forth in front of the mages.

“If one man can change the course of history, we should have no problem with four.”

“A man after my own heart, a man with wit. To bad that’s what I do.” Druid blasted the mage who spoke up.

(You!  INVADERS!  Get you the hot bullets of shotgun TO DIE!!)

Three spires rose like masts from the black flying ships, one from each, and they began to crackle with a green luminance.  With a flash, a translucent green half-dome spread over the entirety of Tjed like a blanket.  The shield would prevent anyone from entering or leaving the city via the skies...  The only practical way in was through the front gate...

----

"We may be lucky," Anslem mused to Ko'ji and the others, "their military is in shambles, it doesn't look like they have the strength or will to fight back."

The gate was built into a solid stone wall and was wide open.  Atop the wall was a small stone gatehouse with a wooden door.  Renard and Helix landed on either side of the door and pressed their claws against it.  Immediately the protal turned red hot and blasted open.

A single Tjed guard in the room spun around, his eyes wide in horror.

"Drop your weapon! NOW!"  Renard screamed.  He pointed a claw tipped with a wisp of crimson flame at the human.  Behind him, Helix had his hands spread before him, electric-like streams of light dancing between them.  Helix was acting as an Amplifier to Renard's spells, giving them a significant boost in strength.  A common tactic in paired Velken Battle Mages.

The human guard took a single step back and drew his sword.  Immediately a silver blur whooshed around Renard and Helix and slammed into the soldier.  The human gagged blood and fell over.

"Anslem!"  Renard cried.  Anslem removed his short sword from the man's side-- a clean stab wound right through a tiny soft spot in the armor. "You didn't have to kill him!"

"Yes, I did." the silver furred Blade Knight retorted, flicking his tail. "He drew his weapon."  The human lying on the floor gaped a few times before his eyes glazed over.

With that, Anslem flipped the large wooden lever in the middle of the room up and a mechanical grinding noise could be heard.  The heavy metal gate below fell, sealing out the city's only exit.

With the gatehouse captured, Helix strode outside and sat on edge of the stone wall, letting his feet dangle over the edge.  From his vantage point right above the gate, he'd be able to see anyone coming down the cobblestone street that might be trying to leave the city...  No more Tjed guards were anywhere to be seen, though there were an increasing amount of Lizard Men organizing in the streets below.

Helix patted on the stone wall for Ko'ji to sit next to him.  "Well, that's that...  Probably four hours of sitting here doing nothing now..."

He looked up at the airships above and the green shield.  The Lizard Men were still parachuting down, though their numbers were beginning to slow as the city was becoming quite flooded with them.  "Hey, I said I'd tell you some stuff."  He looked up at the newcomer.  "The four of us here make up a Mini-Unit.  A Mini-- two Battle Mages and two Blade Knights, is the smallest 'safe' battle configuration we have, but I'm sure you already knew that.  The idea here it to make a very fast moving attacking and defensive unit. Basically, most of the time you and Anslem just need to make sure nothing bothers me and Renard while we cast our spells."

He stroked his chin for a moment, thinking.  "Unless we do a physical formation-- that's when we need some serious non-magical attacking power.  If that's the case, then the two of us will enchant either you or Anslem with some boosting spells to go attack, and the other one of you will circle us and keep us safe."

He gave the female Velken one more look over.  "Say... you've got a pretty weird weapon for a Blade Knight.  Where'd you get it?"

----

(The Lizard Men are landing in the city itself, not the surrounding fields.)

Ven didn't say anything.

He just stood there at the cave exit, mouth agape, his body trembling as he watched the green shield cover the entirety of the city in the valley below.

Finally, he dropped to he knees, threw his hands up into the air, and screamed.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO~!!!!!!!"

After he was out of breath he collapsed in the dust and began beating the ground, grabbing fistfuls of sand and sifting them through his gauntlets.

"Why...?  Why...?  WHY?!"

He simply lay there for a while, sobbing, before he pulled himself together and stood.

"Okay... okay...  Fighting would be reckless... they have the entire city under their control... There is a small sewer outlet some distance from the north wall.  Maybe... just maybe we can sneak in..."

He breathed for a moment, trying to regain his composure.

"We should stick to the bushes, lest they see us from the walls or those infernal flying ships..."  He began to trek his way down-path and downward into the valley.  "Henri... Duilin... everyone... please be safe..."
