Just to copy ur own cds to another format? Jesus. Why don't they ban CD-Rs already!
Because there is a significant amount of people that use them for other than pirating probably. Not only that, but they would have to ban VHS and audio tapes as well. It would also not slow down pirating as much as you think. People would still rip CD's into MP3's and put them on their computer, which they use as a home entertainment system (like me!). There are also hundreds of different kinds of flash and hard drive based MP3 players on the market that people would still use. Also, it's not the government that's preventing UMD-R's from being made, it would be Sony. They know that the majority of UMD-R's sold would be used to pirate games.

Though it would be impossible to make a perfect copy of a PSP game due to the limitations of what a UMD Burner would be, just the same as it's impossible to make a perfect PSX or PS2 copy on current home burners.  Granted there are possibilities that a burner can be reconfigured, or somebody gets a commercial press.  The reason PSX and PS2 discs don't work without a boot disk or somethin is all due to the fact the Boot sector isn't burned into it.  It's amusing....somebody could put multiple PSX games on a DVD and write a boot program for the PS2, they'd need only a press that can write the boot sector.  The same problem would be inherent to UMD without a commercial press.  For those who don't know...DVD presses go for over $10,000 i believe.

\"People who sin say this: That they had to, to survive. People who sin say this: That it\'s too late to stop. The shadow called Sin dogs them steadily without saying a word. Remorse and Agony are repeated, to finally end up at Despair. But sinners don\'t know that if they turn around, there is a light.... a light which keeps shining on them ever so warmly.\" - Vash the Stampede - Trigun

\"There\'s a heaven on earth that so few ever find, though the map\'s in your soul and the road\'s in your mind. So many mountains before us, so many rivers to cross, where is the wisdom to bring back the vision we\'ve lost? Can we gaze with the wonder of children into the deafening night? Has it gotten so dark that you cannot remember the light?\" - D. Fogelburg
