Answer in da poll and leave feedback below. I think they both have brilliant potential, actually.

Though I will probably only end up buying the PSP, I am looking forward to both of them, and what each has to offer, etc.

Well, see, I'll probably get a job during the school year, and if so, I'll save up for both of them, as well as a few games, heh.  I figure $600 should do it (both systems, and maybe 2 games each?)

I'd say that's a pretty good Estimate. I don't expect the NDS to sell for more than $200, and the PSP for more than $250-300. Each game will probably retail at $30-40 each brand new. Games that are a must for me for the PSP are Metal Gear Solid and GT4. For NDS, if I were to get one, Metroid.

The DS is running for $150, according to EGM. The PSP for $300. The Must-Have games for DS are Super Mario 64 x 4 and Metroid. PSP - Tales of Eternia, Metal Gear AC!D, and Dynasty Warriors. Heh.

Now, for this whole PSP UMD thing...does anyone think that Sony is going to release black UMDs and software that allows users to copy their cds and dvd movies to a UMD? That would be really helpful as opposed to paying another $30 for every movie...<_<

I won't believe any prices until quoted by a Nintendo or Sony representative. Gamespot said that PSP could run up to $500, and PS3 up to $700. Both figures are ridiculous.

Because of piracy issues, I highly doubt they'll release blank UMD's, especially because they'd have to make a UMD burner as well, as I don't think they're the same format as DVD's. The cost to the user would be huge, since the demand would be very low compared to that of CD and DVD burners. I also don't think that UMD movies will cost any more than their DVD counterparts. Especially because you can't fit nearly as much information onto a UMD as you could onto a Dual Layer DVD, which is what most movies are released as. Not only that, but they have to look at it through a consumer point of view. Most people are going to buy their movies as DVD's, because they already have a DVD player. Movies on UMD will be a novelty thing, and only a small portion of PSP owners will actually buy movies on UMD, so Sony will have to sell at a competitive price to make the format sell well. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see new releases in UMD format retailing at $14.95, and after a number of months, drop to $12.95, and even $9.95.

Well, I highly doubt anyone would buy UMD movies if they already have the DVD. Seriously, Sony should consider it. Also, if Piracy issues are a big deal, shouldn't Sony have some sort of security thing on each DVD or CD?

Oh, besides, I'm going to start making backyard martial arts films soon, and if I get a PSP, I'm going to want to be able to record the movies I make onto a UMD so that I can enjoy them when I'm like totally bored out of my mind on the road and all, heh.

LOL. Come on now man, you and I both now that copy protection on CD's and DVD's is as useless as trying to plug a faucet with toilet paper. If Sony released burnable UMD's, there would be software on the net in less than a week that let you make perfect copies of all your PSP games. I honestly don't even think that UMD's will fit into the mini-slot in CD/DVD-ROM's, which would also prevent any sort of emulator.

This is true, but for pirating reasons...nothing more.

You could say to put MP3's on, since a UMD will hold many more MP3's than a Memory Stick, for far less money (regardless of the cost of the UMD), but even that is still piracy Very Happy
