I recently beat an old sega game I had for 8 years for the first time, Dynamite Headdy. I'm not sure who all has heard of it. I somehow got my hands on the japanese version as well, and playing through it, I saw how DIFFERENT it was.
1. It was easier. Anyone who has DH will know what I'm talking about... In the first fight with Trouble Bruin, when he hits the edge of the screen, a bunch of huge energy balls fly out from him. In the Jap version, only a few tiny ones fly out behind him.
2. It had dialogue. A game with such an abstract story would be much more enjoyable if people actually talked.
3. Everything looked different! Especially Trouble Bruin, whose japanese counterpart, Maruyama, was friggin pink, and looked all happy! The colors of all of his machines were different than in the American one.
What I was thinking about doing, was making a new version of Dynamite Headdy that looked slightly better, and blended the American and Japanese versions (American characters, translated Japanese dialogue, and variable difficulty.), and maybe put in multiplayer support.
Headdy can project his head in 8 directions. He can pull himself up by shooting at his friend Hangman, and change his head by shooting at his friend Headcase. He has a vast number of heads that can change his abilities, from flying heads, to fast heads, to heads that shoot things out in 8 directions that can kill people. I may be using VB with DirectX 7 to make it. I might be using ImageMagick with VB. I might use Jamagic instead. But I'm not here to talk about what programming language to use. I'm just here to advertise it. >D
