The day I disappeared I was installing my new graphics card, CD rewriter and a new 160 GB hard drive. Unfortunately, due to the age of my motherboard, my computer could only handle a maximum hard drive size of 137.4 GB. I now have a new motherboard, so everything now works perfectly. With a clean Windows installation. Whee!

Actually your old motherboard could've supported it as well with a simple update to your OS. Your hard drive should have came with a disc that would update it simply by changing the registry. At least my Hitachi 200GB did.

Anyways, good to see you back.

Not always the case.  My aunt's computer (i told you about it) can support no more than 2 GB in size.  So we had to put a cylinder limitation on it (via jumpers) and partition it into 10 drives....it's the motherboard itself....well...the CMOS that can't handle the 20 GB hd....

We did use the Maxblast3 CD (it is a Maxtor hard drive) to lie about the drive's size, and that worked. However, the Dynamic Drive Overlay it installed was very annoying, and it then turned out that my old monitor would not work with the new graphics card (because it is old, and my dad got it for the equivalent of about $9 from the local dump). I now have a new monitor as well.

Yeah, the 2GB limit is definately a hardware limit. I was reffering to the 137GB limit though...I should've specified that.

BTW, if your aunt's computer can't support more than a 2GB drive, that is one damn old computer. Even my Pentium 100 could support the 10GB I put in it, without the use of an Ultra ATA card.
