Dark Age Legends, Chapter 18 -- Sign Ups
« on: June 07, 2008, 04:04:38 PM »
Welcome to Dark Age Legends, chapter 18 sign ups! Chapter 18 will pick up where chapter 17 left off, but due to the break in the action, this is an excellent point to jump in if you haven't already. If you haven't been following the story the entire way through, don't worry. You are not expected to read the entire RP-- just the rules below. However, if you never played in a forum RP before (particularly this one) you may want to read a random page or two in the middle to get a sense of how everything works.

Chapter 16 Prelude

Three years have passed since the Dark Emperor Retan was defeated by an inexplicable column of light from the sky.  Since then, the limping nations of Gaian have banded together to prevent another such power from threatening the world again.  Thus the Gaian Federation was born...

Yet despite their combined numbers, they are still no match for the same burning fire from the heavens that destroyed Retan... The Kandarinian Sovereignty has risen from the ashes, a new and stronger nation, hungry for the power the Dark Empire once wielded and more...

Rules

Dark Age Legends Rules

All players must read and understand the rules.  Continuing Chapter 17 players can give them a brief skim, as there are no changes from last time.

As per usual, update/create your character's bio page in DALpedia, then post a link to it here.  New players post here first, so we can approve your characters.  New players will also need to contact me for a DALpedia account.

Plot point for discussion!

In the last sign-up topic we decided it would be best to tie up the remaining plot threads and "start fresh" sometime soon (possibly next chapter) by jumping ahead some long period of time.  So let's start wrapping things up.

I'm thinking the villains simply get defeated and we jump several generations ahead to a point where things start getting interesting again, where we start with a (mostly) new set of heroes and villains.  Probably 100 years or so.  This is all up for discussion of course.  Thoughts?

Chapter 18 begins in a week or so, depending on if people are ready to start up again.

My Characters

But yeah, I agree. We'll just try and get the villains defeated. And maybe the Gaian Federation could then become the major world power within the 100 years.

But who says they'll have to stay 100% good?

Characters returning this chapter:

My input on the break discussion:
I've been thinking about something like this for a long time now. Me and DM have already planned something which will take effect during this (upcoming) chapter, and depending on how much we like the idea, we'll use it in the chapter taking place after the long break. It is something that will be done by Kronos once the latter is desperate - and what's a better source of desperation than waking up 100 years later in a box buried six feet under, finding absolutely nothing of your former kingdom intact?

Having the control of the main villain, I'll be glad to allow you guys to defeat him - as long as you don't pull a deus ex machina... I.e. make an earnest effort to get rid of Kronos, don't just do something like steal his Hammer and destroy the Gros Morne Fortress. I mean, that can be a part of his defeat, but if you're just going to do that (in one post) and say, "I win", naturally I'll be tempted to say "No you don't" and spawn another Hammer (in one post, obviously), and fire a blast so powerful that it will wipe out the entire planet. In other words, I guess it's just a reiteration of the no one-liners rule... kind of.

I've also had the idea of ... yet another race (don't hate me, please) which I really wanted to try, but the history of the appearance of which could only be explained through a 100-year break. So in short, I'm totally up for it, and I'll have Kronos be brought down by the end of this chapter.

I don't think Jenia will be active this chapter but if she will I may add Shuichi. But as thing look right now I think I'll only need:

About he time skip: I support.
The most important thing for me about the time skip is: The minimizing of the scale. Not huge countries fighting each other, but a nice team of hero's going on a quest. That way we'll have more fun =D

I still think that the future should be smaller scaled due something terrible. The idea that instead of countries there villages and castles that work on their own.

Also have you guys noticed that if you read "Repins Tnelis" backwards...

Upon looking at the 'long pages' on DALPedia, Chapter 17 was the shortest chapter. Well, actually no, it was longer than Post Chapter 10!

Mikado: Jenia is a she?

Everyone else: Forgot I took this picture, but here it is... I don't know if anyone has any interest, I thought I'd keep it for the sake of memory.

Hmmm, interesting.  I kind of like both ideas.  We could have some sort of huge disaster near the middle of the chapter that destroys a good chunk of civilization, then have the good guys win at the end.  Thoughts?

Jenia is not an acronym. It's a pseudonym (which in this case it isn't).

About the disaster, though, I kind of thought that it would be more fun to have an epic all-out battle - but a cataclysm is fine, too.

Let me tell you what would be cool:

Step 423: All out battle.
Step 424: Cataclysm.
Step 425: All out battle in cataclysm.

I was thinking that if a country revolution would start and military would try to hold it down it would be cool.

Heh, what's also awesome, I'm in that picture ;D. Now I guess I can't leave DAL anymore, eh?

Oh, sorry I'm late. I haven't checked the site in a while.

Character:
Akran

Yet to be characters:
Elisha
Kraaz
Martin

I'll get around to actually making them characters one day. Oh, yeah, and Elisha is actually just a journal who I'll post with sparingly. I'm not committed enough to make her a full first person character like Kronos.

We're running low on people. Half the folks that signed up don't want to post for one reason or another, and there are no new guys at the moment. Somebody needs to let a friend or two know about this.
