Duilin continued his act and he weakly got back up, and saw Ben yield his weapon. He was a bit worried as what would happen next, he faked his limp towards Ben, Virmir and some newcomer. He had a look of worry. What's going to happen now? Will the Velken's leave? Renard said that even Virmir was a good person, so hopefully he'd able to get them to leave without anymore fighting. He wasn't sure what to do or say right now. So he stood there faking some sort of shiver, to respond to Renard's cold attack. He wanted to see what Virmir was going to do, before he left to group up the others.

--- ---

Nex and the Talonscar Elites started to wander the dieing continent of Terian. Nex was whistling some cheery tune and the elites walked along with him. Nex stopped whistling and then started to speak something that was on his mind.

"You know what upsets me? Ole' Retan didn't even seem to recognize me! Over five years I spent guarding his sorry hide and what did I get in return? A few extra gold coins and the title 'general' stamped on my personal file, and I then I get sent on a suicide mission to Romme."

He paused his speaking for a moment and continued walking.

"You know. I don't even think I like Retan anymore. I see why Abodahon always hated him." Nex continued. "You know what? We might actually be best to join one of these smaller nations of one of the freedom fighter groups and help fight this Dark Empire. I never liked serving under a dark ruler, a demonic[/o] or one of true thantanic evil are always best."

//thantanic = satanic\

"And they're not even really evil, they've only become twisted by their shadow magic, plus they don't even believe what they're doing is wrong. I know what I do is wrong, that's why I do it."

The two elites nodded.

"So, what do you say? Shall we find an alliance to help us rinse out this empire? Then we can show Gaian what true evil is!"

Nex made an insane laugh, and bats suddenly flew from the trees and flew off as he made his twisted cackle...

"Our job is to kill, huh? Wonderful. Though I can't wait to get my hands on this Dark Emperor himself. He sounds powerful... He'll make me fight for my hypothetical life." Anti was anticipating it already.

"Kill, in order to create undead... This would require that the bodies remain intact, correct?" A sidelong glance to Anti, almost as if to say, 'don't go overboard.'

"I've been trained to do well in solo combat, but I'm sure I'll be able to handle the dicipline of a squad." The Velken's purple eyes seemed to glow with elegant beauty... and also something else... something dark. She pulled her scimitar from its sheath on her back and kept it near Ben. She wasn't ready to let him escape... not while it was her first time in a real squad of Velkens.

"I'd watch yourself this time if I were you." She observed him for a moment. He was a giant compared to these Velkens, but that did not seem to bother her in the slightest. After a few moments, she sheathed her scimitar on her back and walked back to the other Velkens.

"Hey," she began to whisper to Helix, "do you think you could show me some formations later?"

"I don't think so!" Valiko made a horizontal slash and cut down three dark soldiers at once. The blade he wielded seem to rip through their flesh... He didn't seem very powerful himself, but his sword was very strong.

"Holy crap!" one of the soldiers remarked, "We should get outta here!" The last of the soldiers retreated to the caves. Luckily, Jacobie and Dranniconias were right there, and they cut down the last of the ones retreating.

"Hey Ven, back up!" Justin held his hand out and quickly made a small ball of white energy, It began to expand until it reached 6 inches. He blasted the ball at the soldier attacking Ven and it sent the soldier flying to the caves, smashing a wall, then falling to the ground. the recoil sent Justin back a few inches, but his form did not change.

"We should get going! This means the Dark Empire is definately here..."

------------

Ben caught Duilin's eye as he was shackled down with much bigger irons. He sent some sort of message through his eyes... *Duilin, I could really use some help over here!* He was held down by another chain that connected another set of shackles that tied his legs together. Nothing could have made Ben feel more like he was being imprisoned. He hated the feeling, but realized that if he fought back, he would loose his energy... or what's left of it.

"You win, Velken... I'll go with you..." a tear slid down the angel's eye as he was taken by the five Velkens that held him down. He thought that he would soon be consumed by madness, if Duilin didn't hurry up and get them out...

"I smell something…" Gorus stomped through the smouldering dust of a recently destroyed building, there he spotted a man in a white robe and a man dressed in black and blue, he was holding some sort of tablet underneath his arm.

"Get them!" Gorus growled.

"Oh no!" Marshall yelped. "Run!"

Wilham and Marshall started to flee as Gorus along with a few lizard warriors started chasing him.

--- ---

Duilin watched Ben in pity as he was being taken away. He didn't want him to freak out again, and start fighting, so he needed to find a solution to this, peacefully.

Aw...jeez. Look at him, I can't let them take him like this...

"Virmir, release him. You owe me favour for saving Renard, so perhaps you should live up to this." Duilin said loudly, to the Velken general. "From what I understand you're here to bring justice for the loss of Jayce. Me, and Ben aren't the ones you want. The man you seek is Lars Draven, the Emperor of the now dead Crimson Empire. He was the one who killed Jayce."

Quad suddenly was shocked that the stranger vanished. He got up and started looking around him but was nowhere to be seen. "Men appearing out of nowhere in this god forsaken place? Why has my life lead to this?". He then remembered he was still lost within the cave. "HEY! WAIT!!! How do I get out of here?" No use, he has departed. Quad was on his own again. He then heard the screaming of a bird. It was very loud and it shook the walls of the cave. "I must be close." He continued to seek a path, hoping he wouldn't get stuck.

Virmir shot a glance at Duilin, then slowly moved his eyes toward the angel.  The angel deserved to die.  Not only was he without honor, attacking from behind after he had already given up, but he was without dignity as well, breaking down in tears like that.  The High General of the Skyward division growled under his breath.

But Duilin had his word, and he had one favor to grant.

"Release him."

The Velkens surrounding the fallen angel perked their ears in surprise.  But they complied immediately, and the defeated celestial warrior was set free.

Virmir turned to Duilin and bowed slightly, still holding the scrolls in his claw.  "Your man for mine.  We are now even."

He then eyed the angel coldly. "Flee for now.  If I ever see you again, I will kill you."

Helix was more interested in the newcomer than the proceedings around.  He shuffled over to her nervously and bowed.  In fact, they all seemed a little nervous.  They hadn't seen another of their kind for 18 long months, and each Velken was terribly homesick.  What news does she bring?

"Of course!"  Helix beamed.  "I'm Ryle Helix. Just stick with me, you'll get along just fine!"

Riuki was surrounded quickly, and each began to anxiously shout questions.

"How are the skies back home?  Are they still gray?"

"Are there more initiates like you coming?"

"How is --"  and then they would rattle off names of family members, hoping she might know.

Any hint that the Velkens were cold blooded killers melted away at that moment.  They seemed more like excited children, their tails wagging as they anticipated news from home with hopeful eyes.  Of course they already knew the answers.  Welkin never changed, and their family members were safe so long as they served the Dark Emperor with the utmost dedication.  Before she was berated too much, Virmir intervened, and everyone fell silent.

"Riuki," he began, addressing her using her last name as was customary.  Normally the first name was used only among family. Though he always retained a professional exterior, those that knew him well could see the kindness in his eyes behind the cold veil.  "By becoming a member of this squad, you must be prepared to do anything and everything I ask without hesitation.  There will be times when I ask you to do difficult things.  Things that will revolt you.  But things that must be done without question, for the path of darkness is the one we now tread.  Furthermore, you must trust all of your fellow squad members with your life, and all of us will trust ours with yours.  Do you accept this?"

----

By now, rumors were hitting the streets of Tjedon.  What were those explosions inside the castle?  Where had all the soldiers and knights disapeared to?

Then three large shadows loomed over the mountains to the west...

----

"Indeed."  Ven sheathed his sword.  Blast it, he could only hope that they did not make it to the capital.  That they were actually waiting in the caves was not a good thing at all.

They could be walking straight into a trap as well.  Ven advanced into the darkness slowly, unsure of whether to sprint or tip-toe, so he settled for a fast-paced walk.  He would not be able to forgive himself if anything happened to the king...  But he knew Duilin was there protecting him, so his buzzing mind could rest a little easier.

----

Draven smirked.  He liked that plan.

"Consider it done.  Retan has hordes of outposts all over the Dark Continent that won't be expecting flaming visitors.  Or faceless demons and... er... " he looked at Drake for a moment "... scientists.  Or whatever."  He waved his hand and took another sip.  "I must caution you not to rely solely on an army of Retan's resurrected minions.  He has a power over them already.  I would hate to find out at the last moment that you simply made his army stronger..."

He leaned back in his chair and pointed to Drake.

"This man claims to know the secret to building giant weapons.  Huge automatons that obey spoken commands and fight on their own.  I have seen such things before and have fought both with and against them, and can assure you they throw a wrench into any well thought out defensive plan.  I assume you have a technology center here.  It would probably be in our best interests to let him have a look around."

He folded his arms.

"Anyway, as I was saying, no matter what we throw at him, I doubt we will be able to take Retan down while he sits on that miserable tower, commanding near-infinite reserves of energy.  If we are to take him down, we must lure him away...  hundreds of miles away..."

"A smile somehow found way to my face.

-"Dear Draven, I don't think you really realize exactly how strong the bond with my minions is. While your concern would be valid in a different situation, it is completely unbased in this one. Unless Retan can directly control the Lizard Men's limbs through telekinesis, he will not be able to do a thing after the lizards become my minions. Think of a minion as a sword - if you pick it up, there is absolutely no way that it will somehow turn on you and cut your throat open. Those creatures are dead, Emperor - and my power is the only thing keeping them in this world. Much like your hand would be holding the sword."

-"In the extremely unlikely event of your concern coming true, I can simply drop the sword - that is, retract my power from the undeads. We won't have to worry about that, though, as it will never take place."

I took hold of my goblet once again, and took a sip. The wine was quite refreshing after such a speech, more so than when I first tried it.

-"Anyways, back to the matter at hand. I do have an idea of how to draw the rat out of his hole. Do you think that perhaps the sight of, say, his undead son will be enough?"

I paused for a second while calculating my odds.

-"If I can pull it off, it will have to be done before the main invasion. I will not be able to support a Draken at full power and 100,000 undeads, as well as half of the city here, all at once. I suggest the following plan of action: I will give you several of these -" I pulled out a few soulstones "-which will act like a sort of a beacon to me. You will go and take down the outposts, while dropping one of these gems in the general location. Meanwhile, I will attempt to resurrect Jayce - well, resurrection isn't exactly the proper term here, as I will be sure to wipe all of its free will - more like zombification. If all goes as planned, we will use it as a distraction to draw Retan away from his lair. Once that's done and Retan slays the haunt, the main invasion force will be resurrected. That's when the undeads can overrun the central fortress, without Retan there to protect it - and you, perhaps even me in person, and ... that, whatever that is, can take Retan head on, without any minions around to aid him."

I called the servant girl over again.

-"You! Show Mr. Science here to the laboratories below the Academy."

-"Yes, Sovereign. By the way," she added, turning to the scientist. "I'd recommend putting on some warm clothes. I don't know how you went through the bitter cold outside in that..."

I turned back around to Draven.

-"Of course, if you have any better ideas, I'd be interested in hearing them."

// Something is going wrong with my computer... I made a post, but it wasn't shown quite right... EDIT: fixed it.

Ben left the company of the Velkens with great relief. He walked over to Duilin and asked quietly, "How are we going to get the Velkens to play along?"

------------

The others followed allong behind Ven with a fast pace. The caves seemed to be getting darker as they ventured deep within them...

"I will not fail you." Ko'ji looked more serious than most of the other Velkens. She did not know much happiness in her life... She was overwhelmed with all of these questions, and answered most of them to the best of her ability.

"Well then, what do we do now?"

//Sorry, I just don't have the endurance or any ideas for what to do with updating my other characters so again this will be a Duilin only update...\

Duilin raised an eyebrow he was nearly stunned at how he could possibly know how Ben could know about the problems the Velkens are having. But now was not the time to talk about this.

"We'll speak latter, Ben. Just go. I need to convince the Velkens to leave." Duilin replied.

He then stepped towards the high general. "Virmir, if you want to bring justice for Jayce's death, this isn't the place to be, Draven has left Tjed." Duilin stated. "And the longer you waste your time here, the further away Draven gets. He will likely be trying to rebuild his empire. Your best move would be to get him now."

“Alex, is this safe?”

“Absolutely not,” Alex replied, “but it’s fast. These hairline cracks run all across the face of the mountain, and sometimes climbers use them to reach the top within hours as opposed to days.”

Alex had his fingers locked into the inch-thick cracks in the ice, and his feet on the larger crack below. Every now and then he drove a Shroud tentacle in to keep his balance.

Weapons become utilities in times of peace…

With one final hard pull, Alex forced himself up to the next ledge, and, amazingly enough, the billowing smoke from Glacia City’s chimneys could be faintly seen, several thousand feet further up.

“We’re getting closer,” Alex said. “Not long now.”

“I only wish I had the power to create another portal,” Midna sighed. “I hate for you to expend energy you could use in a fight if we were jumped.”

“I don’t see what the big deal is,” Alex replied. “Carmine’s miles away, and he has no idea what direction we went in. He’ll probably assume we went through Vandrin.”

“Alex, Glacia is your home! That’s the first place he’d want to look!”

“Then you better be grateful there aren’t any gaslights up here,” Alex shot back.

“True, true…”

The two had taken shelter within a cave after a particularly severe blizzard kicked up, as they often do on Glacia. The Demon Heads, no longer quite so aggressive, actually set themselves down on the ground for the first time.

Surprised? I would assume so. Comfort is seldom an attainable commodity, so it is vital to improvise…are you comfortable?

Truly a peculiar sight! These demonic manifestations showing compassion for the bearer of their power? One head shifted position to lay near Alex.

The true comfort is that of confidence.

Midna had since drifted off to sleep. The cave was unusually warm.

The girl…so delicately innocent…you two are bound by legend, but something more lies within. Love, perhaps?

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Alex denied softly.

Come now. I know all of your secrets, and some that even you yourself may not know. Your feelings for her are to me as obvious as your qualms with my serenity. Why do you hide it so?

“I can’t afford for feelings to get in the way of keeping her safe…it’s my job. My destiny.”

Perhaps she may feel the same way?

“Then it’s mutual. She’s done so much for me, things so great no amount of gratitude would suffice.”

Gratitude is one thing. Compassion is another. What does it feel like to have someone care for you?

“It’s something everyone needs, I suppose.”

Does someone care for you?

“I’d guess so. Kleiner and the other scientists want me to end this war, so do the Twili elders…Midna knows what we have to do.”

Does any one person care for you even more? To an extent to call them a loved one?

“…I can’t really say…I never knew my parents, and the old man who did bring me up died before I could really get a chance to know him.”

Do you care for anyone?

“I’d say I do.”

Why is compassion or caring important?

“Because…well, what confidence would anyone have if no one cared about them?”

Are you confident?

“Yes.”

Then you are indeed comfortable. You are the personification of tenacity, yet persistence can only go so far. Rest is vital. I will be waiting for you when you awake.

Finally, for the first time in ages, Alex felt like he could sleep easy.

And so he did.

“Hey, Carmine,” Hannibal said.

“What?”

“Remember when that Amon guy did the thing to Asgarnia? Where there was obsidian everywhere? That wasn't magic...”

“So what the hell was it?”

“I picked one up to take a look at it. They were shaped like feathers, and judging by the size, from a pretty large bird. There's only one creature I know of that grows feathers that big - I saw them once on the west coast of Kandarin.”

“What beast could grow something like that?”

“I don't know what they're called, no one believed me when I told them. Amon referred to them as ‘Children of the Night’... I guess we could start there.”

“So what exactly does this mean for us?”

“Creatures which come during the cover of the night, bringing about a hail of razor-sharp obsidian, then vanish as mysteriously as they enter. Do the math.”

“Excellent. Where do we start?”

“I saw them on the west coast of Kandarin. Asking the locals would be... difficult, as you can imagine, but I think that if we go west of Kandarin, we should hit the spot.”

“Then that’s our next stop.”

Carmine turned to his men.

“Okay guys, we have a new objective. I’ll tell you about it on the way. Let’s break camp and load up.”

Drake grinned. He would finally be able to put his scientific prowess to use. "I'll be fine in these clothes." He opened the shirt under his lab coat, revealing small, flexible, lightweight, yet at the same time, ridiculously sturdy armor. He closed the shirt and followed the woman to wherever she was leading him.

Meanwhile, Anti listened in on the strategy. "I can't wait to get started. You've certainly got a good strategy worked out." Though I much prefer mindlessly charging in for the kill... his plan is fine too. You could almost see a most evil grin forming on his hypothetical face.

"I really don't have anywhere to go... I guess I'll take my leave back to Asgard. I will tell many tales of your deeds, friend. Gorus continued to chase the two summoners through the broken streets of Vandrin and was quickly gaining on them.

As he continued to run Marshall placed his hand on his amulet and the sapphire began to glow, barely keeping his balance with the tablet under his arm and his hand on his amulet. Soon enough two rays of blue fog shot from the amulet and stopped a few meters away from they took the form of wyverns. Marshall and Wilham each jumped on one of them and they began to fly off in the air. But that didn’t make Gorus give up just yet, he jumped in the air as he glowed a bright lime green and then changed from into a winged Doom Serpent. They wyverns flew faster as the Doom Serpent continued the chase; shooting threw the air like an arrow.

---

“Wait a second…” Roland looked up in the air. “I think I see him, he’s with a friend and they’re being followed by a Doom Serpent.”

“Are you sure it’s them?” Vandrin asked.

“Positive.” Roland replied, still looking in the air.

“What’s with the Doom Serpent? Did Marshall summon it?” He asked.

“No idea, but I sense that creature is very strong. Doom Serpents are already fairly powerful creatures, but this one…” Roland rubbed his chin. “I’m sure if this could be killed, the Sovereign would find this a fairly powerful minion.”

“Maybe it’s the lizard general.” Vandrin thought out loud.

“What makes you think that?” Roland asked.

“I think I’ve heard that he can transform. If you’re correct about the power of that Doom Serpent, then maybe it’s him. I think we should just continue to the castle…”

“No.” Roland stamped his staff on the ground and the sapphire on the end glowed as three rays of fog shot towards the ground, and formed into three brown skinned wyverns. “Get on them. We’re going to fight!”

Vandrin gulped, yet Hypnos jumped onto one of the wyverns, following Roland.

“Come Vandrin, you owe it to us.” Hypnos said.

“Very well.”

---

Gorus continued his chase on the wyvern riding summoners

“He’s gaining on us! What do we do?” Marshall asked.

“Shoot it!” Wilham called back.

Marshall took out on his MagiPistols from its holster and shot a fireball at the Doom Serpent behind them, missing terribly.

“Aim you fool!” Wilham shouted.

“Well, sorry! I’m under a lot of pressure here, carrying a tablet and trying to hold onto his wyvern at the same time.” Marshall defended.

Wilham moved his wyvern to fly forward and then backed up beside Marshall’s. “Hand me the tablet.”

Marshall began to hand the tablet to Wilham but lost his grip and it began to fall to the ground.

“Idiot!” Wilham whooshed down the catch the tablet before it hit the ground, he’d like to get more than one of these back home.

The Doom Serpent finally caught up Marshall and bit the wyvern on the wing, and started to shake it about causing the wyvern to loose control. Marshall fired a few fireballs right at the Doom Serpent, only causing the creature to grunt in annoyance. Suddenly a flash of violet light came from the Doom Serpent. As the light settled it took the form of a black wyvern with glowing green eyes. Marshall’s jaw dropped.

The DEATH wyvern, with its mouth still on Marshall’s wyvern’s wing fired a blast of shadow energy and the wyvern’s wing was burned up and it began to free fall towards the ground. Marshall fell off his wyvern and began to think that it was all over for him…

Luckily and surprisingly not at all predictable to Marshall, Wilham on his wyvern swooped underneath him and caught him.

“Oh thank you…” Marshall said with gratitude.

But it wasn’t over yet the Death Wyvern continued it chase after them. The regular wyvern lowered until it was only about ten feet above the ground and flew its way through the streets, with the Death Wyvern following it, shooting beams of black-purple shadow energy, barely missing its target.

After about a minute of the chase the tree brown wyverns caught up with them.

Roland pointed his staff forward and shot three gel monsters at the death wyvern, Vandrin joined the barrage with a few poison blasts. The gels attached themselves onto the death wyvern, but they were then burnt off as the death wyvern increased it’s aura of darkness and the poison blasts seemed to barely have any effect on it at all.

Hypnos sped up his wyvern and was right next to Gorus. He then jumped onto the death wyvern, as he took out his kamas and stabbed them right into the death wyvern, causing it to shriek in pain, and loose it’s coarse. It started to do barrel rolls in an attempt to get the stalker off on his back.

Vandrin and Roland now had Gorus distracted so they continued the chase on Marshall and his friend. In less than a minute they caught up with him.

“Roland!” Marshall said in surprise to see him. “So you survived?”

“It’ll take more than a four winged rainbow wyvern to kill me!” Roland laughed. “This is Count Vandrin…”

Marshall looked to his other side to see the count riding on a wyvern.

“We’ve met.” Marshall replied. “So Roland, what do you want?”

Roland reached out his hand. “The tablet! Give it to me and I might consider letting you live.”

“Never!” Wilham shouted.

“A detirmed one, your friend is, who he is he?”
“Grand General Wilham of the White Chimera.” Wilham introduced himself.

“Lies…” Roland narrowed his eyes. “Give it up, now hand me the tablet, before the count gives you the worst skin infection you’ll ever have.”

Vandrin lifted his hand and lime green energy began to charge in his hands, emitting green bubbles as he charged.

Wilham smirked. “Fine.” He started to hand Roland the tablet, but then he tossed it in the air and jumped onto Roland’s wyvern and punched him in the head knocking him off and caught the tablet before it hit the ground.

Vandrin growled and shot forth the poison blast at Wilham, but Marshall rammed his wyvern into his, causing Vandrin to loose aim and shoot the blast into the side of a building instead…

//I’ll continue this next post. I’m kind of making this up as I go along and I’ve run out of ideas\
